Preparations for raising day: Japanese style timber frame (Woodworking ASMR)

- Опубликовано: 30 ноя 2024
- So much goes into even a modest size Japanese frame. We thought about detailing each joint, then soon abandoned this as it would just take too long, and we need to get this finished soon. So, it made sense to convey all the little things we could with a video montage of the more interesting joints and pieces. Hope you all had a Merry Xmas and a happy new years!

I love how your chisels and slicks cut like everything is made of balsa.
Same here 😊
Once they’re sharp, gotta keep them sharp.
So satisfying watching that chisel go through wood like a warm knife through butter.
Those are some seriously sharp chisels 👍
I really like the sound of the chisel slicing through the end grain.
@@gravydog51 He is also blessed with some straight grain wood (pine or some variant), The wood I get has grain going in all directions so if you try pairing over longer distances it would split and dive under the joint line. For me power tools are the best way to keep joints to size. Having said that watching a master is highly therapeutic.
They do when they are sharp. Learn about scary sharpening. RUclips has a few videos on the topic.
Hello friends. let us be grateful to our friend who posted this video sharing knowledge. It doesn't cost anything to like and make a simple comment. It is the least we can do in gratitude for his work. thank you!
Thanks for that
@@MrChickadee I love your videos. I do wish there was a little more explanation of what you are doing and why as you are doing it though.
@fleur dedalus Thanks for this. I forgot he does that, I haven't watched his videos in a while.
This is so much more than ASMR and woodworking to me, you are teaching freedom.
"work how you want, with what tools and method give you the most joy". Thank you Josh!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks for that timely reminder Theud.... and work suddenly becomes play again 😊
8:00 the sound of a sharp chisel slicing through wood is second only to the *feel* of a sharp chisel slicing through wood. 10/10 craftsmanship on display here ...
The mastery of work lies in the fact that even the invisible parts are refined down to the smallest detail. Hat off the head, Sir. God bless Your work.
Thank you so much 😀
Sharp tools say a lot about a person, ... besides helping do a beautiful job. Thank you for sharing.
Superb, it was like watching in slow-motion the formation of a snowflake or a flower blooming!
Very nicely edited; another chapter in the story of a man and his mission.
It is a pleasure to watch such fine craftsmanship and attention to detail. Thanks for sharing Mr Chickadee !
Glad you enjoyed it
Reminds me if being a kid home from school and watching the woodwright's shop, thanks I enjoy so much.
The mug of coffee at the beginning of the video really sets the tone for early morning work in the cold. Oh the joy of razer sharp tools. Thanks for another inspirational video and may the new year be kind to you.
Glad you enjoyed it!
I, and several people I know in the construction trades, drink coffee all day long. But yeah, can't start the day without a cup (or more).
I have watched this video many times. I turn it on for the sound when I'm working too.
I could watch this all day...
thank you
So true.
Wood is amazing. Incredible what God can create. Love wood. Everything about it.
Absolutely, John. I have this same thought with every woodworking video I watch. The Creator is so good to us.
Loved the previous video, so I'm very excited to see where this goes next.
More to come!
Asdembling the "hand made constructor set". Sooner or later.
Never realized the ASMR side to your work. I started watching to learn more about wood working but along the way found how relaxing your videos are. Keep up the great work!
These episodes are never quite long enough. So relaxing to watch.
The first class in a beginning woodworking course...Tool Sharpening. It's an absolute must.
What you are doing is just beautiful. Nothing more to say! Great!
Thank you so much 😀
These videos remind me that I need to focus on the pleasure of doing my projects, not just completing them. I start with great intentions of building slowly and patiently, but then start getting impatient to have the final product.
I do have the same Problem. I focus on the outcome too much and then get very hectic
And pissy because there are at least 10 other things needing done or fixed.
This summer I will be building a modest greenhouse using only Japanese style timber frame joinery. I have worked with wood for sixty years, but only recently began to learn from these masters. Your work is truly appreciated. Thank you sir.
Just one word, Mesmerising.
A Happy 2021 to you all - thanks for all the 2020 entertainment and lessons!
Ditto from Wouldwork in NC. Such a great "channel" and always inspiring no matter what level of skill. TY Mr. C!
I'm Brazilian and I really like your videos.
you are an inspiration to me. the coolest and that you work only with hand tools. Congratulations.
I love your channel . It's gotten me thru alot of anxiety issues. Thank you.
The power to create, to shape, is the greatest gift. Masterful work. Look forward to seeing it come together.
We love your videos from Missouri
You are sure skilled in working with wood and sharpening chisels and planes. I never get tired of watching you making anything.
And saws too, for the depth of cut, that saw is ripping through pretty quickly.
Happy New Year, good health, good luck and creativity in work and life!!!!)))))
Always a pleasure. Thanks.
Excellent video, interesting joints and sharp tools, very entertaining.
excellent vision on seeing all the joints ahead of time
Always a good day to find Mr.Chickadee in my RUclips queue.
Thanks for posting.
You're very welcome
This joints stuff looks so awesome, good job.
Glad you like them!
Beautiful work, as usual. That arched door and beam on the blacksmith shop though, love it.
Thank you! Cheers!
Whoever manages your audio does a wonderful job. The mallet taps weren't overbearing and the wood splitting was juuuust right.
Wouldn’t you like to be the one to find his work in say 100 years from now. They will never believe he done all this work by hand. What a legacy. Thanks for sharing.
Um, no. I'd be 150 years old. I have chronic pain and mobility issues now, I definitely don't want to live another 100 years. But thanks for asking. I would like to visit his place while I am still alive though.
So inspiring to watch the work of a master carpenter/cabinet maker. Gentle and calming videos. Thank you so much Mr Chickadee!
All those complex joints, fitting perfectly and not a marking gauge, shoulder plane or router plane in sight! You do everything just with those razor sharp chisels instead - and more amazing still, you can do with with bloody woollen gloves on too. Now that’s some experience and confidence at work to still have that level of control in woolly gloves! - If I saw anyone else doing that, I’d just be waiting for the moment they swiftly sliced the end of their fingers off 🤐 Another cracking video 👍
Absolutely beautiful work. Just love the apparent time you put into sharpening. Those chisels cut like a hot knife through warm butter, like a scalpel in the hands of an experienced surgeon. I'd be willing to bet a visiting doctor or vet could use them to perform surgery, in fact. If you listen closely, you can hear the wood fibers scream, "oh no, here comes a Chickadee chisel, aghhh!". Hahaha!
Beautiful work, Josh. I am still super impressed by your skill and accuracy. This is at a level far beyond your years of practice. One might, if just seeing the hands at work, or inspecting the work itself, think an older crafts-person in their 60s or older and likely Japanese, was responcible for this work. Then panning out to see a fairly young Marine using the tools to create and build such fine woodworking and structures, be quite shocked.
A rare treat, love the videos. This series is very comfy.
More to come!
Skills and patients details ;what a true Masterpiece 👍👏
Love the sounds of the sharp chisel and handsaw on a cold winter day! Happy new year!
Same here!
Nice sharp chisels, got to love it! Beautiful work as always Mr Chickadee! 👍👍🤘🏻🤘🏻
Thank you for this. I myself will one day build a timber frame structure and your videos are confirming this goal of mine every day. Great work and very pleasant to watch!
Merry Xmas and Happy New Year
Happy holidays!
Amazing. Vert beautiful. That's art.
Thank you! Cheers!
It is a pleasure to see talent at work.
Priroda, svež čist vazduh... Sve je lepo !
Level of skill is second to none.
That cup of coffee my friend is my preparation for every day!
That Cup of Coffee is my preparation for every day my friend!!

Thank you for continuing to teach with your videos. It would be nice to know if your wife, kids, and pets are okay. We haven't seen them in a long time. It was nice to see them united in their daily tasks.
Great suggestion!
Working in the cold with gloves on, amazing. Excellent work as always.🇦🇺👴🏻
Yes! Thank you!

👍 Thanks for uploading!
Enjoying the show
Amazing joinery and amazing cinemaphotography.
Brilliant to watch and see it all come together 👌👌😄😄
as usual your work is admirable. all the best in the new year, mr chickadee. cheers!
At about 5:00 "this will be hidden, nobody will see it." You know it's there. There are only two people you need to impress: your lovely bride and yourself. Therefore it's not pointless. I'm continually impressed at the way you wordlessly stress that ridiculously sharp tools make the work so much easier and more precise. As usual, you leave me wanting more. So very nicely done!
Very true, thanks.
In theater and Entertainment... "Always leave them wanting more.". ([I don't remember who the quote is by])
Merry Christmas it's a chicadee video! Hope the new year is good for all who follow this man's work!
Happy new year
I get culture shock while watching you do traditional joinery with a Kawasaki mule in the background! In your defense, I think they’re made in Japan! Ha! Love watching your work! A Master!
So good to see ambidextrous use of tools.
Thank You for sharing this...great work...👍greetings from Slovenia
Glad you enjoyed it!
Man of great skill thank you.
Thank you for the serenity
You are so welcome
You can cut straighter with that handsaw than I can with my table saw. LOL NICE work.
I know, right?
Happy New Year.
Yes!
absolute hero
watching you do that chamfer with the chisel like that, I need to up my sharpening game!
LOVE YOUR CHANNEL. Very calming
Thought I saw a smile on the face a chisel as it enjoyed its job.. And was that saw I saw showing a toothy grin.
So calming to see and hear you perform loving it thanks!
Thank you so much!
Great video. Always look forward to a new one. Keep up the good work devil dog.
Always an inspiration!
With Mindfulness all things are possible.
I watched the second installment of this series first (the joining of the framing) and thought, "Where did he buy the kit for this? All these precut pieces and not a single mistake, everything precise and true and square..." Then I saw this, the craftsman fashioning every piece with hand tools and exquisite attention to detail. The time involved must have been beyond belief.
how long should it take to prepare a 48 square foot home?.
That he is only doing the framing, imagine the walls, roof and internal lining.
Well done! very strong joints!
This is the viewing we needed throughout 2020. Happy New Year to you Sir, and everyone else watching...
happy new year!
This is so very pleasant. And informative!
THANK YOU FOR THE VIDEO, YOUR WORK IS AMAZING
Why are you screaming?
I’ve been needing my chickadee fix, thank you!
You’re welcome 😊
Would love to see a chisel sharpening ASMR video. Great work as always.
I keep seeing this "ASMR", what is "ASMR", PLEASE?
Awesome dude, wish I had the patience to do something like this.
Patience is learned.. just sayin
Really nice work and sounds
Truly an artist! Thank you Sir.
Is there a part 3 of this Video..I can watch these for hours on end..Keep up the excellent workmanship.
Love seeing that slick do some work!
What a wonderful start to the new year. Watching your latest video. ❤️👍
Happy new year!
And a happy New Year to you too. 😎@@MrChickadee
On most other's videos, I fast forward through the sawing and drilling noise, but, not your vids, its like music, and that chisel work, just beautiful.
Thanks 👍
