Whenever I hear this song, I am immediately transported back to the 70's when I was young, and innocent, and so beautiful. Thank you for sharing this and taking me back. Al Stewart is STILL an amazingly talented musician and singer. Misty-eyed, I listen to this with greater wisdom, the benefits of a life well-lived, and a much softer beauty.
Thanks, Al! LOVE The Empty Pockets, who've been playing with Al as his band for several years. This song makes the top 10 in best rock song stories, I think....
I've ALWAYS LOVED THIS SONG! Al Stewart sounds great. And that was a super story he told before the song too. I have never heard this version before, it's really nice. I have been playing and singing this for years. It always rouses the audiences I've played for, which makes me smile. I really enjoy touching an audience where they feel it and this is a SONG that does that. Go Al Stewart!❤
When you put together Al Stewart's masterful songwriting skills and Alan Parsons Production, you have pure genius. This song is up there with the best songs ever written.
One of the most underrated songs ever , for me one of the best ever , I've been listening to this song repeatedly from 1982. Thank you Al Stewart for this great song, your great voice and way of singing . I enjoy all your songs
I love this song so much, Always have and will never grow tired of hearing it. What a beautiful performance. That sax performance was nothing shy of spectacular!!
Been an Al Stewart fan since "Love Chronicles" came out in 1969. Have tickets to see him on February 27th at the Ponta Vedra Music Hall in Florida. Can't wait.🤩
WOW! This song takes me back a ways. This song was truly a top hit. I loved all of Al’s music but this one was special for me because of what was going on in my life at the time. Can’t remember if I was 18 or 20 but I fell in love with that song. I’m 68 now. Thanks for the memory.
I love Al! He seems like a lovely man - like Eric Idles less sarcastic kid brother. And "She comes out of the sun running like the watercolor in the rain" is SUCH a great freakin' line! Rock on yall!🤘😎🤘
Lova ya Al -- i started listening to you in 1989 when your "Last Days of the Century" came out, and "King of Portugal" blew me away. Then, I started to remember all the unbelievable music you had created many years before, "Time Passages", "Year of the Cat", which I heard in the 70s while I was little, but didn't know it was you :-). Thank you for all you have done for us, and many musicians' careers you have spawned! My mom and I saw you performing in Irvine, CA, I believe, in 2007 or 2008. You had signed my "Last Days of the Century" t-shirt, which I had bought in San Francisco when I saw you and Peter White in 1989. We need to see you again, soon. Our love to you and your band... safe travels!!
He has some of the deepest lyrics written . Peter White did the original lead guitar on this . I bet they didn't realize they had a classic when it was recorded . Timeless ! Early on I saw him as a combo with Laurence Juber , an incredible fingerstyle guitarist who also spent time in Wings .
Just needed Peter white and Tim Renwick. This song beyond elegant with chord progression and soaring solo sax. Al Stewart lyrics are intricate to memorize
Every time I hear the sax, I think of the self reported conversation Al had with Alan Parson's that he didn't think a sax was an appropriate instrument on his music. Alan P persuaded him, and here we have that wonderful solo.
Great double bill! Saw him ~the same time frame when he played Vancouver for the first time. He was still doing ‘Nostradamus’ and ‘Roads to Moscow’ then from ‘Past, Present, and Future’ then but sadly no ‘Old Admirals’ which is a song I love. One guy in the crowd called out for ‘Love Chronicles’ to which Al replied “Ah. No.” Al wrote a lot of music that people loved.
I just heard the term "yacht rock" yesterday in reference to Chris Cross's music. Odd. Does anybody know who decided to call the classy, intelligent, truly musical rock "yacht rock."
This young band does a great job overall for Al, but the drums are a little heavy handed. They should sound more like this ruclips.net/video/_-txZZvPUsE/видео.html . It's so great that Al is still touring.
One of my all time favorites, so classy, elegant, misty song... It takes me back in time to my childhood days back on mid 70's
This song, the music, lyrics, vocal , and the story it tells lives on ! Such beautiful memories from my youth ❤️

But not this version! Sounds like a frigging high school band.

Glory be to Al Stewart and the handful of musician/singers whose songs comforted me through my life.
I've ALWAYS LOVED THIS SONG!

Timeless classic. Thank you Al Stewart,
I was on that cruise, and in the audience for one of his two concerts. He's still got it!
Me Too...great cruise
Saw Al Stewart and the Empty Pockets late last year at Cadogan Hall in London. Great show and never grow tired of this classic.
When you put together Al Stewart's masterful songwriting skills and Alan Parsons Production, you have pure genius. This song is up there with the best songs ever written.
Totally agree!
A timeless classic that I never get tired of but one of the best songs ever written? Come on?
@@grahamrandall9892 It sure is....everyone LOVES IT...
@@Dina-nm1nx So do I love it and always have, but it is definitely not one of the best songs ever written.

Muchas gracias por subir este video… genial esta canción!!!
the years go by and the cats but the voice is that of the past. I listen to it every day❤
I love this song!!!
He's sounding quite good for 78 years old.
Unique talent who is terribly underrated...

Really love the fact that he still has an audience to perform for. Long live Yacht Rock! 🤟
Great cruise. Justin Hayward’s my favorite musician. I had 3rd row center for Al’s concert.
I had first row..but in the upper deck..The entire cuise was fanfrikkintastic..n ilk be back..was great to hear Al..memories
Ani totally agree
..Hayward was So Good!
His voice was created to break the barrier of time.

See my reply to James Smith in a previous comment. I mention ‘Love Chronicles’.
Great singer, songwriter and musician. I've liked it since I was a teenager in the late 70's.

El viejo y querido Al, sigue dando batalla !!
Amazing masterpiece from the summer of my years.

I love it.
Getting ready to see him, Sept. 8, The Lincoln Theatre, Mount Vernon, WA. Can hardly wait!! (Hope he doesn't mind me singing along.)
I was lucky enough to see him live way back in 1976 at Muhlenberg college in Pennsylvania. What a great show.
Among the best songs that I've ever listened to !!! I love it ! and I love seeing him well and happy !! god bless him 😂
i wanted to use that one "❤"
Al is 77 and still performing! Hard core...
Maybe he shouldn't be..... That was mediocre......
@@willrobinson9767 well of course (he’s aged) but he is still enjoyed by those who appreciate his talents and contributions to music.

One of the ten best songs of all time. I saw Al in Cardiff in 1989. He was brilliant. With Peter White.
Yer there’s about 10 been written and I’d have to make this number 5
I saw him with Snowy White around the same time in Bristol maybe 1983.
From México, ésta canción cada día que la escucho de nuevo más me gusta, es una melodía muy hermosa.
Top of my play list for decades!
He still sounds great. His band could be his grandkids.
Year of the Cat must have album in your dorm in the 70's....
This is such a beautiful song.

Love this soooo much!
Craig, thank you for posting this great video!! Much appreciated!!
The band that Al has now can not do this great song justice. I still got the original 331/3 RPMs though. Rock on AL!!
A wonderful story!
BRASIL I LOVE THIS SONG. REMENBER 1977
Still that distinctive voice!
He has a similar voice but he is not singing......
Hey, man ! Thks for the gift.
Una de las mejores canciones de los años 80
Saxophone, so cool !!!!
Thanks!
I've been waiting what seems like an eternity for Al to sing about the year of the Manatee. We're not getting any younger, Mr. Stewart.
Larga vida Master!!
Just needed Peter white and Tim Renwick. This song beyond elegant with chord progression and soaring solo sax.

Saw Al Stewart in Leeds Town Hall 1975 supported by Brinsley Schwarz. Great that he is still out there doing what he loves.

Máster piece all times , guitarr saxo piano....🤩🤩🤩🤩
The band looks like they're from the school of rock but they kill it!!! Great version of a great song!!!
The Empty Pockets. They have a few gigs under their belts.
Great classic song.
Tickets for Phoenixville end of March, I hope they are all there.
Wow
May Al live forever more
AMAZING SONG!
Ageless voice! Froze in time.
Back in the 70's and 80's I saw AL Stewart at least twice at the Backstage in Ballard in Seattle.
🇳🇴love Ballard.
To have written a song like this along with Gerry Rafferty's Baker Street. I'm jealous 😂
One of the best songs ever!!! He doesn't sound as good as 40 years ago, understandable.....but it's more special now!
Am Stewart puts on a don't miss show
I would love to be there seeing and hearing when all the rock gods meet and talk.
Beautiful 🙃
I think he was in a band with Tony Blackburn 🤔
All aboard.🛶
Third funniest singer I've ever seen live, behind Weird Al and Dave Barry.
This is great but I miss his old band
I miss my cassett collection....
Al looks like he’s just finished a shift as a city trader…😂
Utterly brilliant song!
👏👏👏👏👏👏💕
Wonder how many times he has performed this song ? Does he keep count
Great! If I was playing in the band. When the sax player started I would have upped my game.
Not that they didn’t.
I just heard the term "yacht rock" yesterday in reference to Chris Cross's music. Odd. Does anybody know who decided to call the classy, intelligent, truly musical rock "yacht rock."
In an interview one time refering to this song's money residuals he said "It's like a rich uncle always giving me money."😂

Has a band with him this time.
The drum part seems odd to me...
he is 78 and me 66 notin is gonna change about my prefference for the yer of the cat.
One of favourites but I hate it when musicians improvise and ruin a great piece of music.
Great album, shame he couldn't follow it up
It needs more cow bells
I didn't know Will Ferrell played flute! Not just cowbell.
And sax…
Hahaha
Al Stewart is one of my favorites but damn, I wish he would lose the slacks and dress shirt. He became Mr. Rogers.
