It's funny, but as great as the 1972 undefeated Dolphins were, I believe the 1973 squad, which finished 15-2 overall, was the better team. In 1972, the Dolphins had to battle for 60 minutes to beat the Cleveland Browns and the Pittsburgh Steelers in the AFC playoffs. Miami actually trailed in both games at one point. While they controlled the Redskins in most of Super Bowl VII, they didn't put them away and needed one final defensive effort to seal the contest. In the 1973 playoffs, the Dolphins beat the snot out of the Cincinnati Bengals, Oakland Raiders and Minnesota Vikings enroute to capturing another title. Each victory was by double digits, and the Dolphins never trailed in any of those contests.

The '72 Dolphins led the league in both offense (most points scored) and defense (fewest points allowed)...and won every game. If that isn't the definition of the best team in league history I don't know what is.

When I first started following the NFL in 1973 the Dolphins were the best and Larry Csonka was the man.

I've ALWAYS LOVED THIS SONG! Al Stewart sounds great. And that was a super story he told before the song too. I have never heard this version before, it's really nice. I have been playing and singing this for years. It always rouses the audiences I've played for, which makes me smile. I really enjoy touching an audience where they feel it and this is a SONG that does that. Go Al Stewart!❤

Al Stewart is STILL an amazingly talented musician and singer. Misty-eyed, I listen to this with greater wisdom, the benefits of a life well-lived, and a much softer beauty.
