In this case he was far too strong to be in that war and since the war was all about a war between right and the wrong. His presence would have defeated the purpose as it would have ended up destroying both the sides, thus Krishna asked for his head in order to remove him from the war. Which brings us to the last part where barbareek says that Krishna was responsible for the victory of Pandavas because if he hadn't done the prior and obviously there were a lot of things he did during the war which directly affected the chances of Pandavas. All wrong. At first Krishna asked Barbarik to step aside from the war, if he would have break his oath by stepping aside from the war, then he could have lived a long life. That's what Krishna and his grand father and all Pandavas tried to explain to Barbarik but he was so adamant and loyal to his oath, he didn't agree with Krishna and Pandavas. So finally Krishna had to ask Barbarik to sacrifice his head, not because any he was Kshatriya, it's because Krishna could never let Barbarik to take part in this war for afore mentioned reason.
