When will thorogood make an 8" moc toe tobacco brown waterproof boot? I know that the 6" is available but would really like the 8" in tobacco. The coffe brown is a mistake In my opinion.
I always bought thorogood best boot made. bought a pair of redwings and the moc toe burnt out and the sole lasted maybe 4 months will not be buying another pair of redwings ever again. Thorogood is the way to go.
I just got mine a few weeks back and they ground my soles down just like that as well. None of my other Thorogood boots have that going on. Maybe they have someone new doing that job, however I think quality control should be catching this and helping whoever is doing that job to stop that from happening. Thanks for the video I enjoyed it. Love all my Thorogood boots.
Good video. I’ve been looking for a new pair of steel-toe boots for motorcycle riding. Every pair of “armored” motorcycle boots I’ve found were expensive and crap-quality, so I’ve decided to return to a good steel-toed work boot. After comparing Danner, Redwing, and Thorogood, you’ve helped me decide!
I’ve had two pair of the same size that were literally two different lengths. We are talking by over a half inch difference. If I wear my usual size 11.5 my toes are killing. If I size up to 12 my heel is slipping everywhere. I wish I could wear these boots. It’s a joke
I was at the boot store yesterday picking up my 1957 series Thorogoods. I did notice a Thorogood moc toe on display that had a uneven down sweep at the toe- it still appeared to be a solid boot but just cosmetically off a bit. I was told by the sales person that because they are hand made, and this does happen. The salesperson was wearing a pair of Thorogoods and pointed out a few minor inconsistencies on his.
This explains why mine have some inconsistencies. Doesnt seem like it'll effect the use so I'll just use them. I need them for work so waiting for another pair just isnt worth the time to me. I'm using them for work anyway it's not like people are going to be staring at my feet lol
Spot on review. I've had mine for a month now and they're finally broke in well. My ankles are breathing a sigh of relief. I also had to go with the wider size with these boots as well. I had really good luck with the laces holding well but similarly I do a lot of torching so I'll be switching to leather laces too.
I’m planning on doing the same. I’ll be cleaning and waxing them weekly. Whenever the sole wears out I’ll buy a second pair and send the first to a cobbler. Then with 2 pairs I can keep rebuilding them no matter what happens for the rest of my career.
Thorogood makes some nice looking boots; but like you, I don't like the tongue design on them. I tried some on and that tongue just wouldn't sit right and/or level on the top of my foot. That made it hard to tie the shoe properly. Color is also a little too dark for my taste; I like the lighter Briar oil slick leather color that Redwing uses more. I do like the Crazyhorse boot color, just wish they made the 8" boot in a soft toe. So I'm gonna have to go with the Redwing Roughnecks (8146) this time. Maybe next time Thorogood. Please make the 8" Crazyhorse in soft toe, that boot (with the yellow lettering) is so nice.
@@fearandloathinginamerica I love these for welding and cutting. I also like the non line 4200 boots they sell. I have a pair of Danner quarry boots that I can spend all day in. For me it’s ask about being comfortable. I just want to focus on the weld and not my feet or back hurting.
Nice boots. I got a pair of danners. Love the fit. They don’t have Goodyear welt. So it feels wider. I wear a 13 4E in sneakers that’s why I went with danner 13 2E. The little imperfection you see I believe is due to the hand made craftsmanship. That’s what I love about the danners and the thors
The pull on style boots are even better... Water proof much higher up the boot..and you don't have that tongue fold to break in. It's critical to get the fit right on those though.... I resole my boots my self... and those MaxWear soles are $50 to buy vs the Vibram Christy-- which I've seen sell for $16..... Probably not worth the price, even if they do last longer.
Those have to be seconds or something. I been wearing thorogood boots everyday for ten years as a lineman . Best boots made imo . And I’ve never had a pair be that shoddy I hate to even say it .
Zach Ward they were good boots, just some weird flaws. I beat the tar out of them and they held up well. I bought two pairs of thorogoods since I made this video and I didn’t see the flaws that these ones had.
😂😂😂 didn’t have them very long at the time of this review. I’m a millwright and worked in a Steel plant they obviously didn’t look a thing like they do in the video after a month. That was funny bro thanks
Just got the 6" version of these yesterday. And I agree. I was in pain wearing them around the house after I got them yesterday. Made sure the tongue was folded properly when i laced them up this morning. About 3 hours into work today they started to feel pretty good. Looking forward to the next week for these to break in properly. Haven't tested the waterproof ability yet. Also mine dont have the sole issues that yours do.
@@WaddyBronco good to know. I dont work in standing water all the time. But being a sprinkler fitter I have to deal with water from time to time. Also living in the pnw the jobsites in the winter and spring are definitely wet.
I had the same issues with inconsistent construction and the gaps in the welt. As you said, for $220 and up, you expect a little more. Have you had any issues with the waterproof claims? I find "water resistant" is probably more accurate. I treated them with a neatsfoot oil and bees wax combo, so I'll see how that works.
fatfredthe28th I have had zero issues with the water resistance. I’ve stood in ankle high puddles and my feet are dry. I do agree the quality needs to be higher. If you look at red wings work boot line, they are almost flawless and they are imported. I think if thorogood wants to stay competitive, they will need to up their game a little more. All in all, it is still a great boot.
I am a plumber and thinking of getting some, will be my first boot over $100.Anyways appreciate the info and I also read on other reviews that amazon ordered ones are sometimes defective.
He gotta Gun you won’t regret it. Just get through that break in period. It’s terrible on your ankles at first but now they are far and away the most comfortable boots I’ve ever had.
$220.00 is not a lot for steal toe and waterproof. Not sure what you have looked at. I have spent 350+ for that in a boot and these are superior in craftmenship and made in the USA
Allen Pacheco I’m going to be buying an unlined one soon. I would say if you work outside or in wet conditions then the waterproof ones are absolutely the way to go. If you are primarily indoors and dry, then go with the unlined.
MICHAEL I have a pair of the thorogood 4210s (unlined leather) in 12 D and they fit perfectly. The warmest it’s been since I got them was probably 45 degrees and my feet were a bit sweaty in them. I expect that’ll get worse in the summer months.
Have you ever owned the Red Wing version, the 2418? That's what I was looking into since I have a few red wing stores near me. But for the same price as the Thorogood the red wings are imported. What's your opinion?
I haven’t tried those red wings out before but I did consider it. I’ve been told they are wicked comfortable. It’s a little bit of a bummer that they aren’t made in the USA but I’m sure they are really good boots. I’ll say this, the red wing soles grip better on ice and snow but they don’t last as long as the Thorogood wedge soles.
How long did these last you i usually wear the moc toe slip on i get 2 or 3 years out them was wanting to try these but if they dont hold up i cant justify 314 over 264 for the slip ons
I beat these up pretty good. They easily will last that long. Obviously depends how much you take care of them but they remain waterproof through everything I do in them. I work in a paper mill, it’s always wet, I never worry about my feet. They’re solid boots.
I believe you said those are brown but they looked black to me either way I'm waiting on my pair to show up I ordered online, those same ones and wanna wear them in the rain at work and test the waterproof for sure
I use mine for work lol. Not real concerned about something you wont see after the first week on the job. If there comfortable keep me safe on the iron that's what I worry about. Hard to beat redwings though
@@WaddyBronco Good deal. I have the none waterproof pair and think these are way better build. It’s going to be a tough break in on that damn tongue though I’m socking them and wearing them until dry
