One thing to add, once all figured give a little spritz of spray paint. You’ll see if it has moved. Did this yesterday on my 66
I have been searching for this as I didn’t align it when I took the shifter off. Such a basic step and I can’t wait to see the difference
It's so much better after the adjustment. Couldn't even find neutral before.

Which way is reverse? Is it to the left and down?
Yes. Pull the Reverse release on the shifter. Then left and down.
