Gracias a esta bellas creaciones musicales, sobrevivo en paz, Tengo 73 años, me fui a la edad de 13 años a EEUU, fui a la guerra de Vietnam, a la edad de 22 años, estuve en la Brigada 173 aerotransportada Air Borne, de la 9 División Tx, después de un año de combatir y vivir horrores y errores, fui prisionero de guerra durante 3 años y medio, durante ese tiempo de prisionero nunca vi la luz del sol, siempre en un túnel, fuimos 9 prisioneros, 3 Marines, 4 Rangers y 2 infantería, salimos vivos de ahí sólo 4, pesábamos alrededor de 45 kg , y nuestra piel se sangraba de tanta humedad, nos rescataron al final de la guerra, una misión de la ONU, unas religiosas, nos cuidaron con tanto amor y cuidados, tres años tardamos en recuperarnos, tanto en la piel como en el cuerpo, regrese a mi amado México y mi estado de Hidalgo, de donde nunca debería haber salido, ya mis fantasmas, mis miedos se han ido apagando poco a poco , a veces siento odio contra el Ejército y a veces lo extraño, pues eran mis hermanos, gracias a la música, gozo mucho mi soledad, nunca me case ni tuve hijos, mi novia que tuve en mi juventud se caso en USA , pues sabia que estaba desaparecido en batalla, y le dijeron , que tal vez nunca me volvería a ver, casi no me gusta dormir, sigo con pesadillas, gracias a la música y el canto , me siento bien. Most teenagers and adults didn't understand the spanish lyrics. But they did understand the sincerity and beautiful orchestral composition of this heartfelt song. En esa época había una especie de túnel mágico entre América y España, de manera que lo mejor de la canción en español circulaba en ambos sentidos. Mi infancia de niño español son recuerdos de "Eres tú", pero también de "una piedra en el camino", de "Cristo ya nació...", o incluso de "alma llanera", aunque sea un poco más antigua. A decir verdad ahora también nos llegan canciones de América en algo parecido al español, pero me parecen abominables.

I've been a Spanish speaker my whole 57 yrs.You don't necessarily have to understand the lyrics to love this song.But as a Spanish speaker what makes the song so beautiful is "her" Spanish .Her beautiful accent and pronunciation that's unique to being from Spain as opposed to how the rest of the Spanish world speaks it.

As a non native speaker that accent is like the one they taught us in HS and college and it's slow enough to understand for someone who doesn't practice much anymore. Being a beautiful song is the icing on the cake.
In the mid-70's when I was in my teen-age years, this song was broadcast over the radio in the United States and it was a big hit! I was just learning my Spanish as a second language and was so happy that I could understand some of the lyrics to this song at that time! My parents liked it too and they were happy because I was learning the language! A beautiful song, and a timeless classic then and now - and yes, now I understand it completely! ;-)

Same here, for years I had "the chorus part" of the song in the background of my mind, but I couldn't for the life of me remember the name of the song as it was a very faint memory and in Spanish. So I decided to google "what was the most popular Spanish song the early 70's"; "Eres Tu" popped up first in the Google search engine. This song brought me back to memories of my childhood getting on and off the yellow school bus in Sunny Sarasota, Fla, because you see, the bus driver would have the radio on during our trip to school and back home. That song among others would be playing. That song tugged at my heart without me knowing as it was such a beautiful song and I didn't know Spanish. After all these years, I finally reunite with a lost memory that was just beneath the surface.

The closest version to the meaning in spanish translated into english. I mean: In english you say "...you are..." But you also can say "...it is you..." In spanish you can say "...tú eres..." But you can also say "...eres tú..." BUT, in spanish you can say "...se ha descubierto una nueva especie..." or "...una nueva especie se ha descubierto..." But in english you can only say "...a new species has been discovered..." You can´t say "...has been discovered a new species..." That´s what happens with most songs in spanish, and poems, etc. But, again, thank you for your words.

I can never tire of this song. Spanish Folk sounds so great. I watched Tommy Boy from 1996 when I discovered this song, along with the Carpenters and I have R.E.M.'s best of who were featured musically in the same scene in the movie. Good memories and laughs. Awesome discovery.

I grew up with this song in the 70’s and sang it all the time. I had Mexican friends and it wasn’t until I started learning Spanish just over a month ago that the words come back now with their meanings. I just now figured this song and a line from one of Shakira’s songs. I started singing this song today and figured out what it meant. Then I had to look it up and listen to it.

Lo más triste de esto, es que las nuevas generaciones no conocerán estas canciones tan maravillosas que a nosotros los de esas épocas nos tocó vivir, claro, a menos que estén interesados en conocerlas. Que afortunados fuimos de crecer con esta música.
Hay esperanza. Mi nieta, de 15 años de edad, tiene en su "playlist" del teléfono casi puras canciones de las años 60 y 70. No conoce esta, por cierto. Se trata de una canción popular brillante, interpretada con brillantez. Tengo la edad suficiente para recordar cuándo salío y puedo afirmar que resultó muy popular aquí, cosa muy poco común para las canciones cantadas en un idioma que no sea el inglés.

On April 27th 1974, almost 40 years ago now this song made the top 40 charts starting at #39. By the end of that summer it would be on the top 10, playing on almost every radio station in America. Most teenagers and adults didn't understand the spanish lyrics. But they did understand the sincerity and beautiful orchestral composition of this heartfelt song. Since then it has crossed many continents and borders and has managed to bring people together through the common bond of music.

esta cancion en latinoamerica fue realmente un exito un verdadero fenómeno musical las personas que tenemos una edadsita ya avanzada la recordamos con mucho cariño y nostalgia, este grupo es o era único en su género simplemente maravilloso.
En esa época había una especie de túnel mágico entre América y España, de manera que lo mejor de la canción en español circulaba en ambos sentidos. Mi infancia de niño español son recuerdos de "Eres tú", pero también de "una piedra en el camino", de "Cristo ya nació...", o incluso de "alma llanera", aunque sea un poco más antigua.

In the mid-70's when I was in my teen-age years, this song was broadcast over the radio in the United States and it was a big hit! I was just learning my Spanish as a second language and was so happy that I could understand some of the lyrics to this song at that time! My parents liked it too and they were happy because I was learning the language! A beautiful song, and a timeless classic then and now - and yes, now I understand it completely! ;-)

Same here, for years I had "the chorus part" of the song in the background of my mind, but I couldn't for the life of me remember the name of the song as it was a very faint memory and in Spanish. So I decided to google "what was the most popular Spanish song the early 70's"; "Eres Tu" popped up first in the Google search engine. This song brought me back to memories of my childhood getting on and off the yellow school bus in Sunny Sarasota, Fla, because you see, the bus driver would have the radio on during our trip to school and back home. That song among others would be playing. That song tugged at my heart without me knowing as it was such a beautiful song and I didn't know Spanish. After all these years, I finally reunite with a lost memory that was just beneath the surface.

@@Wilmerenator Thanks! This song was on the US charts when I was taking Spanish in high school. I could pick out an odd word here and there, mainly "tu", and I knew eres was a form of "ser", but that was about it.

The closest version to the meaning in spanish translated into english. I mean: In english you say "...you are..." But you also can say "...it is you..." In spanish you can say "...tú eres..." But you can also say "...eres tú..."
BUT, in spanish you can say "...se ha descubierto una nueva especie..." or "...una nueva especie se ha descubierto..." But in english you can only say "...a new species has been discovered..." You can´t say "...has been discovered a new species..."
That´s what happens with most songs in spanish, and poems, etc.

I can never tire of this song. Spanish Folk sounds so great. I watched Tommy Boy from 1996 when I discovered this song, along with the Carpenters and I have R.E.M.'s best of who were featured musically in the same scene in the movie. Good memories and laughs. Awesome discovery.

I grew up with this song in the 70’s and sang it all the time. I had Mexican friends and it wasn’t until I started learning Spanish just over a month ago that the words come back now with their meanings. I just now figured this song and a line from one of Shakira’s songs. I started singing this song today and figured out what it meant. Then I had to look it up and listen to it.

Me parece que esta cancion " Eres tu" es la mejor de la mejor en la historia de Eurovison Song Contest. Nunca puedo entender por que esta cancion tan maravillosa y hermosa no pudo recibir el Gran Premio. La deberia haberlo merececido. Deseo saber la causa verdadera seriamente.

Lo más triste de esto, es que las nuevas generaciones no conocerán estas canciones tan maravillosas que a nosotros los de esas épocas nos tocó vivir, claro, a menos que estén interesados en conocerlas. Que afortunados fuimos de crecer con esta música.
Hay esperanza. Mi nieta, de 15 años de edad, tiene en su "playlist" del teléfono casi puras canciones de las años 60 y 70. No conoce esta, por cierto. Se trata de una canción popular brillante, interpretada con brillantez. Tengo la edad suficiente para recordar cuándo salío y puedo afirmar que resultó muy popular aquí, cosa muy poco común para las canciones cantadas en un idioma que no sea el inglés.

This is a great performance by Mocedades (and especially Amaya), all of them attractive and talented people, and I say that as an appreciative American.
