I just bought my Katana for trips like this. I just did the full Green river here in washington that took about 4 days. More technical than the GC, but definitely not as beautiful. I can't wait. The lady and I are putting ourselves in the lottery when we think we're okay to do the 220+ miles. What season do you think is best? We're hoping for anything other than the dead heat of summer.
Chris Clark sorry for the late response. I've used that groover set up for 2 GC and a Middle Fork Salmon trips. I feel like it's the best option that I've seen for a self support kayaking trip.
How many days did this trip take, we're planning on doing a 2 week trip up here in Canada, just wondering if you have any tricks or tips from your multiday trip.
I've kayaked it on a raft support trip, potentially going back this year on a 7 day kayak self support, I might be able to help. What do you need to know?
Just wondering if you've got any tips for packing in general, specifically on any tricks for saving space and packing light! The trip planned is a 2 week, full self support trip so any tips may help.
That was for a 13 day trip. Keep the boat balanced; put the heavy items low and as close to the center as possible. Remember that not everything needs to go in a dry bag. If it can get wet leave it out. Makes packing easier because you can fill in the spaces that a full dry bag won’t fit. Examples: fuel canisters, cooking pot, water filter, peanut butter jar, etc. Pack the boat before hand several times so you get a rhythm/ system so your not trying out cram shit in on the river. Once your on the trip unpacking and packing the boat should be a standard routine.
Worked great. It broke off mid trip when I was pulling my boat on shore under a raft tie line. Check out my self-support Grand Canyon video from 2013 for a sample of the type of footage I got.
One of the first videos I've seen where someone actually said they're gonna try to bring a 18 to 24 beers. You're the man.
nice work!spring is so far in Québec...grand canyon inspire me! have a nice trip!!

Anything you remember you wish you had done differently?

I have a Jan 17 launch date. My first time. How did the dual groover work out? I am needing to make one and that sounds like an interesting idea.

Awesome thanks for the tips!
Not counting the yak and yourself - how much did all the gear/food weigh?
Not counting the beer, I think it came in at around 55 lbs.
And it's difficult to get a sense of scale in the video - is your boat a 14 or 17'?
It’s actually only around 12’. It’s the Jackson Karma Rock Garden.
