So, So, So Amazing! This is the missing part that got me stuck in my synchronisation between a random vocal and the rest of the Project!!! Thank you man!
hei Kenneth, mange takk! You figured out that fast I'm not Norwegian? :) I was slaving through another well know Reaper expert's video (to whom I am very grateful) taking pages of notes and going back and memorizing steps when I thought - There has got to be an easier way. You method using an SWS shortcut is perfect for matching up the gridline with a band's performance.
It doesn't work for me, however I'm not a Reaper guru. I do every step you were showing to us, but I'm not able to move the markers/gid lines. I gave the A and B keys for the shortcuts, but with holding down any of these buttons while moving the mouse doesn't do anything. If you know what I'm doing wrong, the help would be much appreciated. Thanks, Isti
You prolly dont give a shit but does someone know of a trick to get back into an Instagram account..? I was dumb forgot my login password. I would appreciate any help you can give me.
@Max Kase thanks so much for your reply. I got to the site through google and im waiting for the hacking stuff atm. Looks like it's gonna take a while so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
In another Reaper video I have seen, Kenny Goia uses the Ctrl-Alt mouse modifier to move the tempo marker without affecting other markers. Has this since been removed in later versions and only can be done via the extension pack?
If I remember right, since v6 the Ctrl+Alt modifier adds stretch markers. I did quite a bti of searching and the only way I could figure out how to do this was using the extension, and that's one of my biggest frustrations with Reaper to be honest. As for affecting the other markers, turned out I had one of the timebase settings wrong (easy to do with Reaper's million settings).
@@KennethACrashwaggonMusic I can use the extension but it's annoying, I just want to be able to click on the tempo press Ctrl and move it, the script works, but it kind of jumps around, why on earth I can't get this back is frustrating.
Hello! Thanks for the video! I have a question, I don't find in my show action list the option: "move closest grid line to play cursor". Could you help me with that? Do I have to download anything? Thanking you in advance
Is there any automatic thing for reaper to do this kind of thing, like Smart tempo in logic pro x? I wish I had a Mac lol. But I think there are multiple softwares like this popping up. Just need Reaper to implement something like this
There isn't an automatic way of doing this in Reaper as far as I know. You can get fairly close using dynamic split on transients as a guide for tempo changes I think, but depending on the complexity of the source material that may not always work well. Alternatively, Melodyne can do a pretty good tempo map which can be exported as midi and imported into Reaper. I find I have more control over the end result doing it like in this video though.
Hi Kenneth, Would you be able to explain the two action functions to me. I can't quite get my head around what each one does specifically. Can you treat me like a kid and explain it as simply as possible please? Thanks : )
I'll try. ;) The "move closest tempo marker" action is named quite confusingly. What it actually does is insert a tempo marker where the play cursor is at any given time. I like to do it that way during playback of the song rather than having to click on the first beat of every bar and then insert a tempo marker, much faster! I will typically use that on beat 1 of every bar throughout the song (this can get a little fiddly if there are multiple time signatures, but doable if you go in and edit the tempo/time signature markers). The other one "move closest grid line" does basically what it says - moving the grid lines so that they line up with the tempo markers I already inserted. As far as I know you have to do this in two steps as the grid doesn't automatically adjust to tempo markers. I hope that made it a bit clearer! :)
A correction you probably don't want to set both timebase to "time" just the Item timebase. Setting the second one and changing tempo markers in the middle of the music will end up making another time marker after it out of sync. You can see at the end of the video your markers are not in the same place you first inserted them. and when you change they start moving again!
For those who like me didn't get it at first : "A correction : you probably don't want to set both timebase to "time", just the Item timebase" (which means the "tempo/time signature envelope" should be not set to "time" but to "beats")
If I'm not mistaken, it seems like you are adjusting the grid to follow the off time of the song. This is backwards!!! I want to adjust the song to the grid and detect the closest tempo!
I don't find it backwards at all. to be honest. If there aren't big tempo problems in a song I generally prefer doing it this way as it to my ears sounds more natural than quantizing the audio to the grid. Each to his own though. Might do a video later on the other way to do it, but basically you'll want to find a good nearby tempo (think there are several videos on youtube on how to do that) and then use the dynamic split function and quantize. In most cases that should work fine.
@@KennethACrashwaggonMusic To me, it's like if your car has a flat tire, rather than changing the flat, you are flattening the other tires to make the car level. But if you already have your tracks then I guess it doesn't matter. But let's say you are bringing in a percussionist who has a good sense of timing. He's going to have to try to follow this messed up time. And forget about blending in any loops with your project! I'll try the slip/quantize thing. Sounds like a good idea. Thanks.
@@TheAerovons How can you have an "exact tempo" if it's fluctuating? And again, how can you bring in loops to a song with fluctuating tempo? It will not sync properly.
@@beatweezl "Exact" as in a tempo map of the song, that flows exactly with it. I get hired to do covers a lot and the first thing I have to do is map out the original. Can tempo maps be used for songs that have changing tine signatures and tempos?
Great Idea, make a custom action combining both actions and it's an incredibly useful tool.
Best video on the matter! Thank's a lot!
Hi there sir, when I move the grid myself, the other grid at the right side gets affected, how do I avoid it?

Olá, amigo! tudo bem? eu tenho as extensões SW no meu reaper porém não encontrei as ações... alguma dica?
Sorry, it's not clear to me. These are two separate actions that you're firing at different times? They are not firing at the same time?
Master!, this was the best way to do it!, thanks!
Set the shortcuts, highlighted the track, pressed my shortcut keys and......nothing. Track is still out of time. What did I miss?
Cheers, just what I wanted, liked and sub.

Hi! You must download and install the SWS extension package. Once you do that that action should show up in the actions list.
