In this video I restore an old and rusty bayonet from the first world war. I found this rusty bayonet on Etsy app and I decided to do a restoration for you guys. After the package has come to me,I saw the wood handle and I certainly couldn't keep the wood;my second decision was to do a new and cool handle with epoxy resin - so I started to work to a new restoration project.
The bayonet had engraved : WEYERSBERG KIRSCHBAUM & CIE SOLINGEN,so is a german bayonet.
Maybe some will hate me because I used epoxy resin for a bayonet that has a history behind, but certainly this bayonet will no longer be used, and for a piece of furniture I find the use of epoxy resin in handle, very cool.
I hope I made a successful restoration video and will be to your liking.
It's the second time I work with epoxy resin and I think this work is part of art, so don't be mean in comments.
Subscribe for more cool videos, with each restoration video I try to give the best of myself and make the best restoration possible.

I would have kept the blade untouched personally...after removing the rust. And used wood for handle. 🤔
It beautiful though.
That's why you have 1 subscriber while he has like 250,000!!!
@@godzilla362 True.
I agree. The end result looks less like a bayonet and more like a switch blade haha
@@godzilla362 it's not a question of subscriber count, It's about preserving an historical item.
Also, since when subscribers and likes count on someone's opinion? We should all agree with Pewdiepie since he has alot of subscribers?
@@godzilla362 if we follow that logic. We can say that Adolf Hitler had a lot of likes and followers so that made him right.....
I would carry that bayonet during a zombie apocalypse, for sure!

I actually appreciate that you took a risk and showed other medium (epoxy resin) instead of replacing it with another wood handle. It looks really cool.
Glad you liked it Jane and thank you very much 😇🙈
I love how it all turned out, though I do recommend getting a hold of some good wood for the handle. The epoxy looks great, but it can’t beat the feel or look of the wood.
You’re right but this was my intention when I decided to do this restoration. I thought some people doesn’t like it but..🤷🏼♂️
Epoxy doesn't look bad, but I would have preferred wood also. I do not like it so much when he uses plastic, I prefer wood and metal beacuse they are long lasting and environmental friendly.
@@javicorfu Although he can easily remove them and make wooden handles.
the epoxy looked way better, wood is a shitty and prone to damage material, embrace the future

I was going to fault you for not using real wood but the your end product is phenomenal. Well done (and moisture resistant).
Thank you very much for appreciation D 👍🏻🍀
He can stab a bitch without worrying about the handle!
I love that most of your restoration is done manually without the use of 100 different machinery. I also like the fact that you leave some marks to show the history of the item. I looked at your early videos and you are improving the camera angle, editing and everything you do. Subscribed.
Hey! I’m glad that you like what I do and see all my work. Thank you very much Sir 🙏🏻👍🏻🍀
I would rather prefer a wooden handle, but as You wrote: Won't be use as a weapon but as a forniture/decor piece...
...it suits the purpose this new one.
Keep Up the good work!!!
May the Good Lord bless you always!!!

Thanks Victor 🤗 stay safe
Fantastic restoration! As someone who knows how tiring it is doing lots of sanding I can really appreciate the amount of work you put into this. Lol! Great trick with the wooden dowel for sanding those curved surfaces btw.
Thank you Daverage. I appreciate it 👍🏻🍀

While you did a good job on it, this piece deserves to be restored as it was originally, with wood handles
Yes, I was looking forward to that, with the sideways cuts in them.
You do incredible restoration work. Witness your loving gorgeous painstaking cleaning and restoring of the blade. You asked for an opinion about the handle so here's my take: this is listed as a WWI bayonet. The name on the blade, the design-all of the metal speaks to an age of around one hundred years ago or more. So, with this incredibly beautiful antique metal blade, my sense is that I would want to preserve it's antiquity and historical look with an actual wooden handle. The artificial material, while nice for many types of furniture, etc. is to me a jarring introduction of the modern into something that is actually old. But, still, the red coloration looks a little like deep reddish tinted burl wood. Ultimately you are a master at what you do and I always look forward to your new videos!
Thank you very much for your support P F 👍🏻 I really appreciate
I love that you chose to add red to the resin

I was skeptical at first when you added the red coloring to the resin, but I actually really like how the handle turned out.
Thank you,I like too how he turned out
So do I
🙏🏻 many thanks
I’m 63 years old and seems like I learn something from each of your videos. Thank you sir.
Glad to hear that Chuck . I really appreciate your support 😊👍🏻take care
I absolutely love the new handles
Glad to hear that Janice
Very nice! I would have preferred to see a new wood handle but the epoxy handle looked far from bad. Something to note is that this bayonet intended to be used in a stabbing motion instead of a slashing motion like you did with the watermelon, so oftentimes the bottom side was left fairly blunt.
There's nothin' like a Kill Bill reference! 🤣
😂😂
When I first saw the title about epoxy handles, I wasn't so sure, but it turned it so much better than expected. Great job.
Thank you very much Curt 👍🏻
I like the new handle. I was not sure if red would look good, but it does.
I liked how you did the handles. As someone who collects 98 bayonets (typically of the later ww2 period) a ww1 bayonet is hard to come by. The epoxy resin coloring was a nice touch. Unlike the bayonet restoration that I seen before, you made it where it still will mount on the rifle. I didnt care for the sharpening of the blade, as most were left unsharpened for maximum trauma. But it isnt me restoring it. It is up to the collector if they want to add this to the collection. And I do believe someone would add to theirs for the right price. Oh and that knob in the back does come off. All the s98 bayonets were made that way.
Very useful informations and thanks for appreciation 👍🏻🍀
I think i know what restoration video your talking about I watched it before this one but this video I enjoyed more and I like how it will still mount on a rifle still unlike the other one lol
I dont have another video with bayonet
@@CoolAgainRestoration it was uploaded from a different channel not yours lol
First things first: if you recall this video as a restoration project you should never modify the nature of it. Second, I appreciate your time for sharing this with us and investing your time into working on this bayonet but yet again, the purpose of restoring something is to give the piece its original historically accurate look; so no resin handle but wood. Lastly, bayonets were not designed to cut, but to stab, so no sharpening the blade never ever.
The result is very nice, especially because of the excellent work on the handle.
Bravo!
Thanks and glad you like it 😊
you have become my new favorite channel, I love the care you take into restoring those beautiful pieces. look forward to more.
Thank you very much Erin 👍🏻👍🏻😊
При всем уважении , это НЕ реставрация.
Ok. Stay arround. Will be also videos on your taste my friend 👍🏻
Yes , i agree .mA restoration means as original and the handle spoilt that . That handle would have been fun for a soldier on a wet battlefield ))). Nice work but oak handles would have been better
Will be a video with a 100% restoration. I want to see how much appreciation for original I have 👍🏻
@@CoolAgainRestoration where did you find this bayonet??
убили штык! лучше бы он оставался как и был.
the new handle was beautiful.
I won lie, I would have preferred a wooden handle like the original had, but I might make a knife with an epoxy handle like that myself one day.
Glad you liked it Patrick 👍🏻😎
that new handle looks incredible wow

The epoxy looks absolutely wicked!
Ohhhh. I have a thing foe edged weapons. Love this
i like your videos but this is something with some serious historic value, i mean you do other stuff like tools and such but that bayonet went through ww1 at least and i just think it deserves a bit more respect than being dolled up to look nice to the modern eye
I know what you mean and as a collector of militaria I feel the same way, but in any case he did a great job making it look new and he gave new life to an old item. I still like to preserve historical items as such though, the age and wear are testament to what those items have experienced.
What better way to respect a historical atrefact by giving it a marvelous, polished look instead of letting it just rust away...
Weapons in WWI were so mass produced that a single bayonet isn't a make or break for historical significance, if anything the blade restoration is a great counterpoint to the preservation status of the rest. An epoxy handle, not so much, but as long as it's clearly labelled then it's simply part of the artefact's ongoing history. This from an archaeologist, btw
The handle was rotted beyond repair and the rust only gets worse with time if it is not stopped.

@@CoolAgainRestoration now test it on a nearest Frenchman, as it was intended 😂
I love the new handle. Very cool.
Thank you very much Monique 😎
my only issue is the resin handle, i would have rather it be wood but understand why you chose the resin over wood as it’s visual and a conversation piece so it looks older in a way that you can’t get with new wood: completely understandable and done for the right reasons.
it’s visual art, it’s as close as you can get to original condition without a time machine so nicely done!
Thank you very much 😎
Great job except for the grips. Would have restored it as close to original as possible. The apoxy makes it look cheap. To each their own
WW1 German "Butcher" bayonet.Great job, but bayonets don't need to be sharpening, they are not for cutting.
I know Bitola,but now it’s a collection
@EMILIANO BARRIOS CHAVEZ The bayonets were made just for stabbing and for small range battle, with the sharpening you're just destroying a peace of history
Great job on the knife and thank you for not making the handle look like gold
Мачете вышло изумительное! К нему ещё ножны красивые и будет полный комплект! 🤔☺️

👍🏻thanks Ded Boi
This is cathartic
Handle scales are awesome
Glad you like Miguel 👍🏻
That's a G98 "butchers" bayonet... Those were made by Mauser A.G. Oberndorf... In good condition, those can bring a premium.
the only more expensive ones are the serrated "sawback" combat engineering models, same as the normal ones but with serrations for sawing, other then that it's still a regular combat knife/bayonet but with some added utility and "cool factor", I think it might be cross comparable with the newer shorter K98 rifle (I might be thinking of the K98 bayonet being able to mount on a G98 but they also might be fully interchangeable, I'd need to reread on that)
Испортил штык всеми этими шлифовками.
А накладки надо было сделать фиолетовые в крапинку,с- ка так гламурнее.
Handle looks great
Glad you liked it 😊
Stunning beyond belief
Thank you Mike 👍🏻🍀
I have the sawback version of this I restored, then totally devalued by modifying it to fit modern US lugs, so it will go on my Mini14 and Mossberg 590. It was rusted into its heavily damaged metal scabbard when it was given to me.
Nice handle!

I'm not sure it's a proper restoration, not very similar to the original
Yeah,maybe restomod 👍🏻
@@CoolAgainRestoration if your restoring a piece of history you should do it right
It looks good, but this is not a restoration, it's a modification!
It's still a restoration. Handles are a consumable part and will need replacing several times in the life of a good and well used blade. The blade was restored and preserved and the handle replaced, whether the handle was replaced with wood, resin, or scales it had to be replaced to restore the piece, what it's replace with is a personal preference and can be changed anytime.
Thank you Absolute Terror, for appreciation 👍🏻
@@martyjehovah No it's not, as he changes the look of the item. He is renovating the bayonet. If he would be doing a restoration he would use the same or similar wood for the handle etc.
I like what's been done, just hope you saved the original handle pieces.
There are too many restoration like original and I thought to do something different but I saw the people want to see items restored like original condition..and I make like that after that bayonet. You should stay close to see next video. 👍🏻

Nice job on the new scales and polishing. In it's original condition maybe worth around $50.00 USD.
Looks like a fun project.
Thanks Darrell 👍🏻🍻
That's kind of overstating things, I think. It's still a piece of history, it's just in better condition now. Leaving it as it was would have led to it deteriorating beyond repair.
Absolutely beautiful, love the handle (my favourite colour) and the finish on the steel is superb.

Big fan of handle. Darker the better brings out the shine in the metal.
Thanks Chris 👍🏻
The moment power tools come out you know an item is ruined. If this was a proper restoration power tools and resin would've never touched that bayonet. Bayonets are also not supposed to be sharp.

what a great restore! I use mine for getting the meat off the bone on large pieces, where I dont want to use my nice kichen knifes, before the grill.
