  • Red Drum: Jack's island @ Lawson Creek Park - New Bern, NC and Glenburnie Park. Went down in the morning and used frozen shad for catfish, striper, drum, whatever... got nothing. Moved to Jack's Island at Lawson Creek Park and caught a 17" Red Drum on a paddle tail and jig head. Temp in mid 70s... great day! Pretty much the first time I have been to New Bern aside from driving through en route east to the coast. I did play a soccer tournement there in 1991 (of couse we won... I had great teammates!). Beautiful park... I didn't realize they had a fishing pier there only a few hundred yards down until I got home and saw it on Google maps... I hooked 4 redfish , 2 came off after a brief fight, the other was just a hard bite.

Top notch intro right here Dave!! Well done. That helicopter plane was cool. Beautiful looking fish for sure. My dogs 🤣 woof woof. Great edit on this video Dave!!!!

Thank you Chris! Aside from catching the fish, the helicopters were the coolest part, lol. About 5 of them passed by. The eastern NC coast (and US) is well protected by military...lots of jets in that region too. Yes, catching my first red drum made my day. I appreciate the comments. My brother also liked the intro and I surely spent some hours on it - guess I'm slow,. I really appreciate the kind words....I will keep at it and keep trying to improve. I already have become a much better or learned to freshwater fish by watching you and other skilled anglers on RUclips... I am so grateful for that!

Thanks a lot! I have actually caught some fish with little paddle tails on them but not these bigger paddle tails... I think they move really well in the water.. better than a fluke... but had not caught anything yet with them. I was so grateful... saved my trip. I hooked 4 but of course I only got one, lol.

Thanks Wolfpack! I tried to put a little more time in this video because the fishing wasn't as succesful... try to make up for it with a little more effort in the presentation.
