Hey, welcome to my ted talk :)) So before kicking off the How I made a Planted Discus Tank series, here's an excerpt from the already filmed, very long video. This may very well be one of the most heated debates in the world of fish keeping 🤭 also, since I need to tear down the tank in a couple of months anyway and I'll probably have a super busy time... I might start to tear it down early and try a bare bottom setup. As you will see in my future videos, this tank as 0 Nitrates and Phosphates, plants do their job. But how will it behave with less plants?? how often will I need to do water changes? I think right before I move is the perfect time to experiment :D stay tuned!

People can be soo toxic on aquarium discords/forums/reddit/etc.. In one I was talking about wanting a betta fish and someone said something like "I don't know why anyone even owns them! It's unethical how big their fins are! They can hardly swim!". My betta fish now swims just fine and I think for a fish is pretty happy..

Hi Danni! People can be so obnoxious with their know it all attitudes on social media. I don’t know as much about aquariums but I do quite a bit about ponds-I have an indoor one and an outdoor one-and have had them for almost 3 decades and water quality is everything regardless of size. A heavily stocked pond CAN work if the filter and aeration and biological balance of plants, etc. is good. You may have to do more frequent water changes if it is not, but it is possible. Is it ideal, no, but like you said, it can be good enough. I love your orchid videos and am starting to watch your aquarium videos, which are equally great. Thank you so much for taking the time to educate us with your practical and realistic methods. Love your content!❤

Your tanks and fish are beautiful. Looking forward to hearing more about the move and how you will move the aquariums and orchids.

I am trying to grow my Orchid this year and as i learning from your fabulous content (hopefully i will be successful in the hot topical island in SEA) in youtube and i realized that you keep fishes too. I agree with you that tank size on screen does not truly represent the water quality for our lovely pet fish. Other than the room for the fish to roam which indeed depends on tank size, it is also the volume water which includes unseen water sump. Some tank looks small but their sump system can increase the water volume by 50%!

Ok, off topic but...i am praying for you haha. Moving house with all your tanks and your orchids? That will be a chore haha.
Excited to see the new space tho.

Those plants grew in beautifully. It makes me want to set up my empty 75 gallon in my basement if I could only find a good stand/table since the floor down there is slanted

Loved your ted talk! Your discus are so beautiful and colorful - like swimming orchid flowers:) My ideal home would indeed have an indoor pond or a river running through it, and be filled with stunning fish and other critters, with plants growing along the edges and even a small island in the center and a hammock under some skylights. But my good enough home has good air quality, a kitchen to cook in, a water filter so I can tolerate the water, windows for a view that also keep out most unwanted bugs and critters, a full bathroom, a comfy enough bed, locks for my doors, plus many plants and aquariums. Could be worse. Could be better. Never would I call it ideal though:) I pay attention to the colors, activities, reproduction, and health of my fish and shrimp and plants and I certainly hope that I am giving them a good enough environment for them to thrive. Even without that extra 5cm:)

I think the philosophy is that fish has 3 second memory. So if it takes her 5 or 10 seconds to swim around the tank then she will "forget" she was at the start point 😂😂😂😂😂. Only joking!

I agree i think a lot of the new wave aquarists think its only about the money you spend.. im 23 and im apart of the new wave however i think building a proper eco system is most important. You know they dont have a fluval 60000 in the lake right 😂😂😂😂
