    GM EV hatchback? No.
    GM EV CUV? No.
    GM EV small pickup? No.
    GM EV minivan? No.
    GM EV sedan? No.
    GM EV coupe? No.
    GM EV sportscar? No.
    GM EV El Camino? No.
    GM EV off-road vehicle? No.
GM EV specialty vehicle (ex: Chevrolet SSR)? No.
Two GM EV completely distinct, ground-up, expensive-to-produce platforms that result in virtually identical midsize SUVs? Yup.
While there is nothing absolutely fantastic about GM's EV platforms approach, they are perfectly good, and we want to buy EV cars from American manufacturers. The failure of GM is NOT the EV platforms. It is the decision-by-committee approach to building EV cars that are equaled by other manufacturers and being too timid to recognize that the EV market is WIDE FREAKIN OPEN for different types of EVs where they could own a bunch of entire markets for those model types!!!
Not to mention, EV platforms are skateboards and it is relatively easy to put different model bodies on them.
I am exasperated by GM's approach. SUCH a missed golden opportunity to lead the market in diversifying the EV offering menu. Sigh.

@@G-Rated There are objective measures to sound systems but to my ear its quite poor at this price point. When there are $30k vehicles with better sound systems (including from GM themselves) I don't know how it can be acceptable to most people at $40k+. If you don't care about audio, then sure its fine. Anyone remotely interested in listening to music would question it or find it lackluster. The most I experience vehicles, the most I see where cost cutting happens. In the Blazer EV especially there is no excuse as to why you have to get a RS RWD to get the Bose system where its not available in the RS AWD.

With a possible career change and some health issues, I've been looking at EVs lately, and things a little larger than my very low-to-the-ground Toyota Avalon. I have a hip problem that makes entry and exit in the Toyota just awful. From a height and ease of entry and exit standpoint, is there a clear winner here? I need to go to the dealer and check these out, but I have concerns about the visibility. With that said, the one pay lease pricing on the Blazer EV is absolutely insane (24 month, 12,000 miles/year lease is $4500, out the door)

    • @CarsMadeSimple
      @CarsMadeSimple  Месяц назад

I would say both are going to be good options for ingress and egress due to their height and size. The Blazer might be slightly better. I believe lease pricing varies regionally across the country but that does seem very cheap if you can find one that fits that payment.

@@CarsMadeSimple Completely agree. I saw another channel that recently completed a one pay lease on a Blazer for around $6600. I would rather get a SUV (like the Blazer) that is a little bigger than the Equinox--and has a little more clearance from the road (I can’t recall the term for that). I have always felt safer and more confident in a little larger vehicle. Some of the MVA’s I have seen over the years have confirmed my feelings about that. I too have have had back surgery (3x’s), last one included a fusion--and I am 5’1”. So for me I would have to see in person how the seat feels for me. I have had bilateral shoulder surgeries also-so I have to sit in the vehicle and see how it feels. I believe you said the Blazer comes in rear wheel drive and also AWD. I had front wheel drive with last 2 vehicles and loved it. Why are they even bothering with rear wheel drive when rear wheel drive has a history of fish tail sliding on slippery roads???? What am I missing in my understanding about this??? Your podcasts on vehicles is very good, interesting. Vehicles have changed so much--batteries under the back seat in some cars, all the electronics even before EV’s. Being a mechanic has become more complex. What sort of training do these guys (and/or gals) have to do in order to work on all this new technology. I know the pitch is to encourage people to buy the EV’s, but for myself at age 68, I wonder if the traditional simple gas engine would be better for me. If I get a SUV, it will most likely be my last vehicle. I don’t always believe in that saying “You can’t teach an old dog new tricks.” But as we get older, what would you recommend???

WTF is GM thinking. No super cruise on what is supposed to be the better vehicle. Just stupid. One of the things that helps to lower prices is to have each vehicle equipped with the ability to do everything if you purchase or subscribe to the feature. Blazer is now off my list do to the lack of Super Cruise. I'm no fan of Tesla but every vehicle they make has the ability to add FSD to any of the current models. I'm going to look at the equinox in Oct when I ditch my id4. However at the pricing other makes can be had with more features and faster charging. I would suggest that at least for the next five years everyone should lease. This protects you under warranty and assures that as tech increases you keep up with it . Batteries in particular are changing all the time as is the time to charge.
