Thanks for the review. Which trilogy do you recommend more between this one and Prince of Nothing?

Oooh, good question! I'd say that Prince of Nothing is more akin to my taste. It's a bit denser with philosophical musings, extremely bleak and hopeless, and has a deeper more epic lore. The prose is absolutely stunning, Bakker just has a way with words, that is to say, that a lot of his sentences feels like getting punched in the gut. Truly, The Second Apocalypse has some of the most disgusting, disturbing, and putrid scenes I've ever laid eyes on.
The Broken Empire on the other hand is edgy, dark, and is an absolute page turner. While it's messed up and brutal, I wouldn't say that it's as disturbing as PoN. It's definitely a lot more entertaining.
If you want something that would stick with you for a while, and make you constantly think about the nature of free will, truth, and faith, I recommend Prince of Nothing. If you want dark, edgy, and high octane entertainment, The Broken Empire is for you. Both are fantastic.

@@hewhospeaksoftales Thank you for your detailed & helpful response. I decided to order Prince of Nothing based on your explanation. I'm a huge fan of Berserk & for some reason, Prince of Nothing seems a bit similar to that so I will give it a try.
