It’s fantastic to have another fan of Broken Empire and Mark Lawrence’s writing here in our corner of BookTube! I enjoyed listening to your eloquent thoughts on this trilogy. I’m glad you agree about Broken Empire being existentialist rather than nihilistic. You express the other big themes beautifully too. Cheers!

Man you have totally sold me on trying this out. Red Sister didn’t do much for me but I really need to give this one a try!

Yay, I'm glad! It's certainly a dark and uncomfortable character study, but if in the mood it's well worth it.

I didn't like Red Sister as much as the Broken Empire, but Girl and the Stars... oh boy. Hold on to your hats!

Excellent breakdown of this series Carlos. This was the 1st grimdark series I read...and the rest is history. I loved being inside Jorg's head. Im a bit ill, what can I say.

I really did like these books. Was fascinated by the setting as well.
Jorg is in pain and is taking his revenge on the world for what it has done to him. And slowly realizes the error in his ways.
I also like Lawrence's prose and his variety of main characters. If you don't like Jorg try Jalen or Nona.

100% - That outward aggression is released until he simmers down and begins to reflect. I loved that journey.
I can't wait to try Jalen and Nona, really need to read those two trilogies
