- The Blue Nile's Paul Buchanan being interviewed by Mark Cagney on TV3 in Ireland in October 2006. This interview also features footage from the band's performance at the Electric Picnic Festival in September 2006.
A friend of mine also wrote to The Blue Nile, and I received two postcards, one from Robert Bell and one from Paul Buchanan, with one wishing me a happy birthday, and the second just wishing me the best.
They are treasured items.
Hats may well be one of the best albums ever in my opinion. Beautiful, beautiful music
For sure one of the best albums of the 80s and we all know 80s are the best decade in music ever...
I have the pleasure of serving Paul most days in the shop I work in in Glasgow's west end and I can say the man is nothing short of a geniune star, very VERY humble and a true gentleman!!
A guy I've only really got to know in the past year but I've been a fan for years,Tinstle town is still in my top 5 songs of all time so to realy meet him and get on so well is amazing.
Paul!,your a real star!! :)
I've watched this interview at least 100 times now. This Scottish-American lass loves the Blue Nile very much!
Thanks so much for the post!
2019 ur never alone as a Blue Nile fan
nice
I remember when "A Walk Across The Rooftops" was released and I have been a fan ever since. "Hats"believe it or not, took me a while to get into..but eventually it grew on me,and is now one of the best albums I have ever heard. The Blue Nile are a very acquired taste, and Buchanans voice is out there for the rest of the world to share, if people will take a few moments of their time to listen.
Wow! So often when you love a band's music, then see an interview with them it destroys the magic. However his quiet modesty only makes me respect the beautiful records he crafts even more.
I once got two birthday cards from The Blue Nile back in the 80s, because (I think) a friend had written to them saying what a fan I was. One from Paul, and one from Robert. I still treasure them.
Paul's wonderful songs have kept me company on long journeys and through high's and lows over the years.
What a great sense of outlook. Rarely do I see a lyricists write with so much respect when you listen to them it has that true sense of intimacy. I don't mind that it takes 6 years for the band to produce an album, as long as it's good and worthwhile to listen. Truly unforgettable songs. Thanks for posting this interview...
I cant descibe how unique and beautiful his voice is.
I'm only just getting into the Blue Nile. Nice Interview. I would say 'Tinseltown in the Rain' is one of the all time greats, very groovy and dancey, yet captivates with the yearning lyrics and vocals. Mad stuff indeed )
Joe Connor Yep. Yep. Yep. I know you wrote that 7 years ago but it’s still true.
Thanks so much for posting this. Paul is indeed one of a kind. Love the soul and spirit of the man and ofcourse the incredible music he, Robert and PJ have made over the last 24 years.
thanks for posting this video. I very much appreciate.
Nice job Mark...great interview, must be a fab perk to get to meet someone you admire so much
I could not agree with you more! I am a lifetime fan and find their music to be the soundtrack for my life.
paul b must be the most modest man in music of all time!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the post. Paul B is fantastic!
Thank you. Most interesting.
a true gentleman
great interview
You're so, so right about Marty Whelan, he's a terrible interviewer. However, this interview was done by Mark Cagney, a real music fan and an obviuos fan. He does a fine job interviewing Paul.
God Bless Paul Buchanan!!!!
what a nice chap
Is really a SIR with all the letters
class act heard them many years ago.. tricky dicky comon da hoops
Paul Buchanen seems like a really sound guy. Mark Cagney is a dope
Can someone please tell me what song he’s singing in the concert clip? Bring the house down?
@ennver3
He says " Bono is not a soul singer". Great band had the pleasure of seeing them 6 times in Dublin over the years
I don't recognise it either, so I'm not sure where it's from..
lost track and glad that I found out what is cooking...
5:50 what makes the blue nile the underground legends they are
any info on the new songs/album? thanks
@Yoamm A gentleman we all letters
@spartak95
I thought he did fine...he's obviously a fan...
Ahh back to the time before the shit hit the fan in Ireland.
@Thefaze100963 Interesting question. However, I'm a little curious as to why you're asking this question on a post for a Scottish person, from a Scottish band. (I know the interviewer is Irish, but I feel that he's rather inconsequential. I could be wrong.) I say, listen to more Scottish music! ;-D
Marty Whelan is like a bad version of David Brent. God he's cringeworthy, and him talking to one of the coolest men on the planet...
pb is full of himself lol
buchanan is a nice guy but take tinseltown in the rain out of it and they are shit lets be honest
