Wow, that was a big nostalgic kick in the balls, I grew up in Glasgow in the 80s and this came out when I was 12 ! My friends older brother bought the 12" of this and we pretty much as good as stole it from him, we loved this song and we used to belt it out when we were having our first beers as teenagers.. brings a smile and a tear...
Just found this video, A song that has been a best friend for well over 30 years. Pauls voice was once described ... "if a broken heart could sing, it would sound like Paul Buchanan"
Your enthusiasm for music is infectious and so glad you love this one. Heard it way back in '84 when it was all over the airwaves in the UK. Have bought every album of theirs ever since. Magic 👍
They say that The Blue Nile is an acquired taste. Allow me to congratulate you on your most recent acquisition. I have enjoyed their music for almost forty years now. You should also check out "Downtown Lights" (perfect for the holidays) and "Headlights On Parade".
Interesting fact .. Peter Gabriel adored this band and this track in particular… Also was torture having to wait every 10 years for an album of theirs to come out
Blue Nile are excellent, the sound of my youth growing up in Scotland in the 80s. You nailed it early, very similar to the Associates. The album 'Hats' is a must listen!
For certain, this is a great song. But as with a lamentably small number of albums, the full album "Tinsel Town in the Rain" is an experience to listen to in it's entirety and in the provided order. If you're not an album appreciator, you won't get what I am saying, but sometimes the treat is to listen to whole thing in one go, rather than a song at a time. In this category, it is one of the best.
Another great Scots band to try and listen to of the same era as Blue Nile if you can track it down is Goodbye Mr Mackenzie back in the day when Shirley Manson was a backing singer and not the lead of Garbage

I was super impressed with this one 😎 absolutely fabulous !! Magic
Downtown Lights from Hats is my all time fave Blue Nile song, but this album and Hats were (and still are) two of my fave albums from the 80s

one of the best bands to come out of scotland
Amazing breakdown!. This gentleman know what he's talking about and more 👍👏✌️
I just stumbled across this while cooking dinner. My only advice is to listen to the full album, and then the three albums they released subsequently.
This is such a beautiful masterpiece, so underrated.
Don’t know how someone in Canada has played 2 of my top five songs of all time recently? Blue Nile and Love and Money.❤️👍🏻

It has the grandiose of Associates but not as unhinged.
Best 🖤🖤🖤🖤
Story of my youth in Glasgow
Really glad you like it. Paul is such a nice guy.
Absolutely loved this tune ❤️
Blue Nile and lufc..good lad!
walk across the rooftops and hats are rightly looked on as classics but high and peace at last are just as good
Anything from the Hats album is worth listening to...top tier album to quote you...
Top Tier 😎❤️
