This was my senior year. Director was Larry White. This was so much better than the previous 2 years, but a far cry from my freshman year when we were AAA or Open Class and took Sweepstakes in virtually every show. Considering we had 3 director in 4 years, I look back on this and think it was pretty okay. Let me know if you find a recording of this entire show.
I was in the Marching Band for three years 91-92, 92-93, 93-94 This generation is different and spoiled because their band camp was only 1 weekend in the gym where old school band had band camp for a week in 100° or more heat learning everything from marching technique to music to field show preparations to the drumline and band making sure they sounded clean and on key. This generation from what I saw on Facebook live from Friday's game needs alot of work. Drumline was playing all over the place and not to together and the whole band needs to work on marching technique. The band is not the same anymore.
My nephew is currently in the band and quiet frankly it is not the student’s fault they are doing things this way. Him and several other students are just as upset as anyone else about this situation. My nephew will be transferring to another school for a real marching band experience. I will only say this, the director decides how they want to see their band grow.
Huh seems like my schools current two week thing isn't too much. My band size is small, we focus on stunning the audience via how loud we play then the skill of our playing mostly.
@@michaelatilanotv we played it in my HS in 87 I rigged 2 Roto toms on to quads made them sixtepulets one of the first such drums and changed the arrangements from 4 to 6 tom toms it was epic .Too bad it was never recorded such a waste but hey I had fun and wowed the crowds . Played it in front of 20 thousand people at a HS game and in parades of up to 500,000 people .I believe quints had just come out and I was one of the first to have 6 drums then they all came out in the 90s in my senior year but these were manufactured .
@@michaelatilanotv fox tech high in San Antonio texas crowds were huge back at the rivalry last game and the parades here also had a lot of people attend them .Not anymore today its come down considerably .
@@michaelatilanotv in my freshman year I made it into a drumline that just won state competitions but when school started I went to a show band type school then went back in my senior year and went to another state championship hs so I became a versatile player but had the most fun at fox tech we would win jazz band comps every year where Hythe other 2 HS we would win band and drum corp comps .
@@michaelatilanotv they did away with music and sports in my old high school completely people are more entertained by there phones than to go to watch competitions .Its not just in your area its a problem everywhere .One of these days I want to buy some drums and re do these types of songs I'm pretty sure I will remember it even though I haven't played in decades .Mainly because all the audio of these songs have the horns blaring and you can't hear the drums I just want people to hear how the drums sounded in songs like these .
My nephew is currently in the band. However, he will be transferring to another school in the district because the band at Colton has fallen down quiet low! Something needs to be done about it! The director is not doing a great job!
The marching band I was in during the early 80's also played this song. Well done.
