    Wow!! You’re right, there’s not enough info that can be found on how to make these leis and you posted your video just in time for me to learn fire my son’s graduation Friday! A few questions-how long before an event do you make these to be worn? How long will it stay fresh and do you keep it on wet towels and refrigerated before use? How much would you say it cost to make a single lei?

    • @makeitmegan
      @makeitmegan  2 года назад +11

      I’m so glad you found this video! I try to make my leis no more than 24 hours in advance but they should last at least 2-3 days. To keep it fresh I finish my leis with a spray called Crowning Glory. You can find this on Amazon or any floral supply shop/website. It helps the flowers to hold in moisture. Leis can be stored in the refrigerator in the bottom drawer/lowest setting with damp paper towels. Materials for this lei wholesale are about $30-$35 dollars.

      I am a full time florist and order all of my materials wholesale. In my area a few of the wholesalers sell to the Public and majority require you to be a business and provide your EIN or sales tax license.
      You can also check with a local floral shop and they might be willing to let you order and purchase those items from them by the bunch. I have also found Songs of India plants at Home Depot or Lowes.
      If you live near a flower market (like the Los Angeles Flower Market) you can shop or order from one of the sellers there.
      Lastly, you can order from an online wholesaler such as Blooms by the box or fifty flowers. Some of the online wholesalers don’t require the EIN or sales tax license but they usually have a minimum.

    If you wanted your lei to be made with all plant based materials, You could possibly used sea grape leaves or maybe rubber tree leaves instead of using foam for the bottom plate. Plus, instead of stapling the flowers and sewing the leaves together, and braiding the leaves into the string, you could have sewn them with raffia, so that way if you wanted to give back the dead plants to mother earth, you wouldn't be polluting. It would all be biodegradable.
