Inside the Actor's Studio With Elton John. The host challenges Elton to take lines from books submitted by audience members which Elton can immediately create a song from. Someone hands him a instruction manual to a refrigerator. Elton reads a paragraph and starts singing the words to the refrigerator manual with a bouncy catchy melody that he has created off the top of his head!
I grew up with the music of Elton John & had a lot of his records. He was huge in the 70's-80's. He collaborated with Bernie Taupin since 1967 on more than 30 albums. They were one of the best song writing teams. Bernie wrote the lyrics & Elton supplied the melody. They had so many great hits together such as "Levon", "Honky Cat", "Tiny Dancer", "Your Song", "Daniel", "Crocodile Rock", "Bennie & The Jets", "Saturday Night's Alright For Fighting", "Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me", "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" etc.
Early Elton John is the best. I owned albums Honkey Chateau, Madman Across the Water, Tumbleweed Connection, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road and Caribou. He’s a legend.
Elton John’s music is a win no matter anyone’s favorites. You can’t go wrong with whatever you choose to listen to next. It was his tour in 1974 that I first got to see him and it was my first ever concert. Amazing! I have said it before but you really need to watch the Who’s rock opera movie Tommy. Elton John, Tina Turner and Ann Margaret are phenomenal!
The background singers have graced our ears in a multitude of his songs. They are guitarist Davy Johnstone, bassist Dee Murray, and drummer Nigel Olsen. Listen to the album version of Candle In The Wind to hear them shine.
Elton killed the goose that laid golden eggs when he fired Dee Murray and Nigel Ollsen, they were not only players of bass and drums, but 2/3 of the backing vocals, that along with Davey Johnstone, helped create the sound of the Elton John Band. He never again reached the heights that he did with his original band.
Elton is a king as a musician. If you listen to his hits like Rockatman and you'll think that you like them, then you'll hear his non-hits and then you'll know that. Usually, the hits of musicians are the best music they've written. Elton's hits are for his football fans so he can make money and go shopping.
This is one of the greatest hit makers of all time. Hit after hit after hit, especially 70s-90s. He was a child piano prodigy. His piano playing and vocals are one of a kind.
It's told that Bernie Taupin would write lyrics and bring them to Elton, who worked with Bernie to develop the song. Elton would create the melody and then add the harmonies. One of the most prolific writing teams ever, and Elton has created so many memorable melodies. You're right, he did a lot of tracking of his own voice in the harmonies as well, and obviously one of the great singers and piano players ever to make songs.
One of the great things about Elton John's music is that his live performances are just as well produced as his studio work, almost indistinguishable. P.S. real name Reginald Dwight.
Birth name is Reginald. He changed it by deed poll in 1972 which means his real name is Elton Hercules John. Pedantic I know, but he himself stresses the point. To contrast the difference between real and stage names, Sting’s real name is Gordon. He has never changed his real name by deed poll or any other legal process.
Bernie Taupin was the co writer of a lot of Elton’s music. Bernie got the idea for this song from a Ray Bradbury book of short stories on science fiction. The song is written for the short story called “Rocket Man” in the book. It’s a story about how astronauts and space travel would become “an everyday job” in the future.
Little Jenny's got so much love for me. I got to throw back some of the race lights for some you know, but I'm sure I gotta admit. I'd like to cap the hunky cap. Elton John's got a song called the hockey cat. I'm a hunky cat brother a hawker hey all day
Dee Murray’s bass playing is phenomenal on this track. Anyone know it that was engineer David Hentchel playing the ARP synthesizer on this like he did on Funeral For A Friend?
Fast Car by Tracy Chapman plays right after this one on my playlists. They are both so "lonely in a crowd" feeling. They both make me feel longing and regret. They both make me think of the human condition in modern society. They both leave me feeling empty.
I love Elton John, he was an inspiration to me to be out, proud and stand up for who you are! I also love the way he shows out vocally, check out " That's what friends are for" with Dionne Warwick, Gladys Knight and Stevie Wonder. Also, " Don't let the sun go down on me" , the original version by himself, and the incredible duet created when he joined George Michael singing it on tour!
Elton's early years were his finest imo. He wrote the music, and his writing partner Bernie Taupin wrote lyrics. Elton talked about getting sheets of paper and shutting himself in studio to write the music. Bernie was just inducted this year. Backing vocals are all Elton's band, Dee, Davey and Nigel, since the 70s. Explore BBC Sessions, "Madman Across the Water. " Any Elton is a good one. 👍🏽
Yet another 70's artist with a very long playlist of hits! Try Someone Saved My Life Tonight, Funeral For A Friend, Philadelphia Freedom, The Bitch Is Back, Candle In The Wind, Tiny Dancer, Crocodile Rock, this list could go on and on!
LIVE! versions always @ MUST! U get to see tha' magical genius of those hands/fingers @ his absolutely mesmerising mannerisms, plz live version """Royal Festival Hall""" ❤frm tha 🇬🇧 Xxx.
Elton John is part of the soundtrack of my life. My favorite is probably Someone Saved My Life Tonight, but I love so many of them. Tiny Dancer, Your Song, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, Levon (I could keep going, but you get it).
Always happy to see someone giving a listen to my favourite solo artist. I've seen him in concert numerous times, the last one in April 23, on the last leg of his farewell tour. I do have to say, you will hear people say that nothing he did after the mid 70s is any good. Please ignore these people; they are quite simply wrong. Oh, the period from 70-75 was a period of intensive creativity, an outpouring of raw talent, there's no denying that. Elton was burnt out, he took some time off, and his music changed. I love most of his work through the 80s. One of his very best albums came out in 2001. Do take some time to listen to a few of the later recordings as well as the classics from the 70s. Ten great post-1980 songs: Sartorial Eloquence. Elton's Song. Empty Garden. I'm Still Standing. This Town. Healing Hands. The One. This Train Don't Stop Here Anymore. Blues Never Fade Away. The Bridge.
Elton John is my favorite in concert. I started going to his concerts in the early '70s, and continued to go throughout his career, all the way to his farewell tour. Life is not the same without an Elton concert to look forward to! My favorite is "Tiny Dancer." I think you should try "Don't Let the Sun Go Down On Me" next!
Elton John "Sacrifice" and "The One" (original videos) ❤ and "Sorry seems to be the hardest word" (live with symphony Orchestra in Melbourne Australia) it's amazing!! 🙌
If you really want goosebumps, please see Elton’s performance at Princess Diana’s funeral. (Not for the feint of heart.) Literally history in the making.
Remember the time period. This is right after Aldrin and Armstrong walked on the moon. Which is why so many songs were being cranked out about astronauts. By Elton John, David Bowie, and so many others.
Funeral For a Friend/Love Lies Bleeding is one of his greatest songs of all time. React to the Live Video. Live in Concert: One Night Only - Madison Square Garden.
I second this emotion. “Funeral for a Friend/Love Lies Bleeding” is the opening track of his masterpiece album “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road”. As a person who is living with HIV/AIDS, we owe a lot to EJ. I look forward to you reacting to many other Elton John songs.
Generally speaking, in the early days here, Bernie was the lyrical genius and Elton was the musical genius. Elton wrote the music, Bernie wrote the words.
your song that you mentioned earlier was used by ewan mcgregor and nicole kidman in moulin rouge. you should check a live performance from the 70's he used to wear flamboyant costumes and is known for his large collection of glasses. you may know kate bush from the single running up that hill(deal with god)that was used for stranger things last year.putting it back in the charts climbing to no1 after it's first release in 85. she writes her own music and does contempary dance in her videos.the first being wuthering heights based on the bronte novel.the thumb nail for that song.she will be in a white dress.
Elton John writes songs backwards from everyone else. Most writers think of a tune, then write lyrics to it, or write the lyrics while writing the tune, or have a lyricist write them later. Elton has never written lyrics to any of his songs. Bernie Taupin ALWAYS writes the lyrics first, then Elton writes the music based on those lyrics. I don't think any of the songs on his many albums came music first, nor do I think he's ever released an instrumental song without lyrics. I'm not even sure Bernie writes lyrics with a chorus in mind, he just writes poetry that Elton then puts to music. It's odd, but it's been working for over 50 years.
Too many great songs to possibly list here. You'll get a lot of them suggested because so many people have different favorites. My favorite is Madman Across The Water.
Shame on you for not knowing who Kate Bush is. (i)Hounds of love (ii)Cloudbusting (iii)This woman's work (iv)The man with the child in his eyes (v)Running up that hill These should wet your appetite.
Elton just writes the music, Bernie writes all the lyrics first gives them to Elton , And he than writes the music. You read that in your research at the beggining, untie the knots in your doo rag so your brain can get the oxygen it needs.
Elton John writes the music. Bernie Taupin writes the lyrics.
Saw him perform this live outdoors in the Hollywood Bowl under a full moon. Just... just... no words...
"Funeral for a friend/ Love lies bleeding" is an Elton masterpiece!
Live please
@francescaferriani4185 yes, live! He opened many concerts with that song
One of my favorite songs by Elton is: Someone Saved My Life Tonight. (Check out the lyrics and meaning.) 😄
Empty Garden
I like the title track from that album, Captain Fantastic. And the album cover is a trip😆

!!!! I’ve GOT to find that!
Can you post a link to that?

Early Elton John is the best. I owned albums Honkey Chateau, Madman Across the Water, Tumbleweed Connection, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road and Caribou. He’s a legend.

That music video, with our "astronaut", is a brilliant way of showing what it feels like to be an immigrant in a foreign land
I love SIR ELTON JOHN is music is the best He never song a bad song
in the 80s MTV ruled with videos to all these great songs, it was a great time.
The background singers have graced our ears in a multitude of his songs. They are guitarist Davy Johnstone, bassist Dee Murray, and drummer Nigel Olsen. Listen to the album version of Candle In The Wind to hear them shine.
Actually, i like live Versions because i can see the passion of the artist.
Absolutely do a live performance. Elton is a showman!
The backing vocals are the band. Elton and this particular band play so smoothly together.

All are welcome to the rabbithole of Elton..put your seat belt on 😊you're awesome keep it up, I watch you every day. Hello from Cody Wyoming
Wow! My love goes to Cody, Wyoming!!!

Little Jeannie, little little jeannie she's got so much love. The song is called little Jeannie brother. It's a elton johnson I wrote a?

His band does awesome backing vocals. This is the same drummer and guitarist that he toured with in 2023. Fifty years together. Amazing
Dee Murray’s bass playing is phenomenal on this track. Anyone know it that was engineer David Hentchel playing the ARP synthesizer on this like he did on Funeral For A Friend?
There were a lot of space related songs in the late 60’s/early 70’s due to the US/USSR space race and the moon landing in ‘69
He's got a lot of goodies, especially from the 70s. Like the article says, one hit after another. And lots of amazing deep cuts also.
Fast Car by Tracy Chapman plays right after this one on my playlists. They are both so "lonely in a crowd" feeling. They both make me feel longing and regret. They both make me think of the human condition in modern society. They both leave me feeling empty.
Funeral for a friend, someone saved my life tonight, Benny and the jets, so many great songs.

He’s great but u should’ve seen Cher in her prime, AMAZING!!!!!
Elton John wrote the music (with lyricist Tim Rice) for "The Lion King." Remember "Can You Feel The Love Tonight?"
Elton John "Sacrifice" and "The One" (original videos) ❤ and "Sorry seems to be the hardest word" (live with symphony Orchestra in Melbourne Australia) it's amazing!! 🙌
I hope you love going on this musical journey. Elton John is more than a legend.
You should react to Elton and Eminem Singing Stan

My first time to watch you, and I loved how you reviewed this. Very intelligent.

Fun movie!
So many great songs, check out Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters
You are going to L❤️❤️❤️❤️VE this journey.
Bowie was reportedly annoyed by the obvious similarities with Rocket Man.
Check out Guess that’s why they call it the blues by Elton John 😉
Remember the time period. This is right after Aldrin and Armstrong walked on the moon. Which is why so many songs were being cranked out about astronauts. By Elton John, David Bowie, and so many others.
Beautiful!

A song about the isolation of being a big star that rises to extreme heights.
Generally speaking, in the early days here, Bernie was the lyrical genius and Elton was the musical genius. Elton wrote the music, Bernie wrote the words.
Great reaction as always bud!!!!
The video is fan art btw. Check out Elton performing or just listen to the song, it’s magic.
And his duet with George Michael.. don’t let the sun go down on me 🙏🙏
And the original solo.
George Martin is a producer. Taupin is a lyrist so he is considered an artist.
He doesnt write his songs though. he has a writer, he goes into a room with the lyrics and makes the music and history
Elton John - Bennie and the Jets (Live at Hammersmith Odeon in 1982) 😆
your song that you mentioned earlier was used by ewan mcgregor and nicole kidman in moulin rouge.
you should check a live performance from the 70's he used to wear flamboyant costumes and is known for his large collection of glasses.
you may know kate bush from the single running up that hill(deal with god)that was used for stranger things last year.putting it back in the charts climbing to no1 after it's first release in 85.

Bernie writes the lyrics and Elton writes the music. At least back in the 70s
If you react to a live performance, please start with one from the 70s.
Agreed!
W
Please do his collaboration with Sting and Rod Stewart 🙏
Elton John/Honky Cat😮😊
Too many great songs to possibly list here. You'll get a lot of them suggested because so many people have different favorites. My favorite is Madman Across The Water.
Have you seen the movie?
Elton writes the music to his songs. He's not a lyricist. Bernie Taupin writes the lyrics
If you don't know Kate Bush then check out "Don't Give Up" by Peter Gabriel featuring Kate Bush. Peter Gabriel is my favorite singer.
Errrr,Bernie Taupin wrote virtually all the lyrics.
EJ wrote and arranged the music, the melody and anything in the studio.
Never saw that video?
I hate these fake videos that go with some of these songs
This video was voted on by Elton John to be the official video back in 2019.
It still detracts from the song. I'd rather create a narrative in my head rather than be spoon-fed one created decades after the song was written.
This song is s masterpiece. So beautiful but sad. Elon Musk should be forced to listen to this everyday.😂
Why aren't you watching concert footage? Cartoons aren't going to cut it.
I've never seen this video. Kinda strange.
Shame on you for not knowing who Kate Bush is.
(i)Hounds of love
(ii)Cloudbusting
(iii)This woman's work
(iv)The man with the child in his eyes

Obnoxious , rude and uncalled for ,bet you make your mom proud
