I saw Tommy Bolin and Energy in 1972 in Colorado Springs. They supported Ten Years After. The were Great. I was only 13 , so I was Really Amazed watching Tommy. Great night out for a little kid.
I moved to Boulder in the summer of 70. I remember Zephyr playing all over town -- wild ass shows where lots of folks were tripping on this and that. Then I remember Tommy going solo and coming back to Boulder walking around on the Hill dressed like a glam rocker.
I also lived in Boulder in the '70s. I'd see Zephyr often at the Glenn Miller Ballroom on the CU campus and Tulagi's on The Hill. Tommy loved his Echoplex!
He would have been about 19 here. You can already hear some of the licks he would make his own in the coming years with all the other bands he played in. I feel very fortunate to have been one of the lucky who got to see Tommy live. James Gang 1973. Byrnes Auditorium, Rock Hill, SC. Just amazing.
The original ANN WILSON!!! What a great loss for music. The Philadelphia Inquirer, Monday, January 30, 1984; CANDY GIVENS, 37, STAR WITH ROCK GROUP ZEPHYR--Candy Givens of the rock group Zephyr, whose body was found in her apartment hot tub, may have drowned, but police are awaiting toxicology tests to determine the exact cause of death, authorities said Saturday. The body of Ms. Givens, 37, was found early Friday at her apartment here, police said. Police Capt. Hal Nees said there were no signs of any injuries, and a preliminary autopsy report indicated "symptoms of drowning." Ms. Givens started her career playing the harmonica and singing. She and her former husband, David Givens, formed Zephyr in the 1960s along with guitarist Tommy Bolin. The group was a sensation at the 1969 Denver Pop Festival and produced three albums before splitting up in the early 1970s. Ms. Givens then moved to Los Angeles. Bolin died in 1976 of a drug overdose. Although the Givens were divorced in the late 1970s, Zephyr was revitalized about 1980 when Ms. Givens returned to Colorado. The group produced the "Heartbeat" album and video, which were hits a year ago.
Wow, I’ve never seen this footage. You’ve got a treasure trove of stuff going on here. It’s my favorite guitar player since I was a kid I’ve never seen this early footage of him it’s rare to find any.
Wow. Heard of them, but digging deep tonight. Tommy Bolin I knew from 70’s with Deep Purple. Candy sounds a lot like Grace slick and also could be thrown in there with future heart artist Ann Wilson and never forget the great Janis Joplin too. Boulder Denver Colorado in the 70’s, wow.
I miss hanging out at the golden apple and talking and playing together before he left for Boulder for the short time I knew him we became very good friends and I can tell you he was the most honest real and TALENTED person/friend I have ever had ,Damn I miss you Tommy best frien Philipp
My dads friend Dominick troiano filled in after tommy died they've both passed on but Dominick troiano was the right guy to fill the spot of the legend that was Tommy bolin...troiano was the best guitar player in Canada and was a perfect salute to tommy.
Good job David. Hope everything's great in NZ. Haven't been on Facebook in ages, so you know I was pleasantly suprised to see your name here. (Ps my you tube channel tell you my secret identity.) You did a masterful job my friend. Blessings.
David Givens, the bassist from Zephyr has recently finished remastering the audio from this show, and his friend in NZ is going to merge it with the restored video footage shown here in this trailer. The full show is coming!
Fillmore is spelled with two letter l’s. The Zephyr clip that doesn’t seem to have survived was their appearance on Dick Clark’s American Bandstand. It apparently was in January 1970. I was a freshman in high school, and I was knocked out by their buck-toothed, funky chick singer and their amazing guitar player, who had a homemade sound effects box on his amp. During his solo he turned around and messed around with it to get some modern electronic sound effects. I thought the band was great and went out and bought their album (which I still have stashed away). A few years later when I was a Mahavishnu fan I was surprised when Billy Cobham’s first solo album came out that Tommy Bolin was on it. It would be so much fun to watch that American Bandstand Zephyr show, but I guess it’s not possible.
Loved this, Zephyr was a great band, and introduced us to Tommy Bolin. It seems to me, as a long time Tommy fan, that he was a better guitarist in Zephyr. As his career continued his playing declined. There were some great highlights to come, but his lifestyle got in the way. Your hard pressed to find this type of playing from 75 onwards. I’m grateful for the footage! Is the the whole concert out there anywhere?
This shows you not only what Jeff Beck stole from Tommy but also Jimmy Page, and it's easy to tell, Zephyr opened for LZ, prior to that Page wasn't using a lot of sound effects like echoplex, go back and listen to Jeff Beck up to Blow by Blow, a year before Blow by Blow Tommy was out on Billy Cobham's Spectrum, listen to that and then Blow by Blow, then again listen to Beck before, it's historical proof and a timeline, Tommy had a huge influence on a major portion of the music we listen to.
Joe Bonamassa recently did a show playing that very guitar he found it. It was able to use it for a gig on camera. It’s pretty cool same Les Paul with American flag pick guard.
Ran into Candy and Tommy at a Record store on the" Hill" in Boulder Colorado in '71..saw Zephyr several shows and Tommy's Band Energy as well.early 70s..I liked Candy's Voice.powerful Blues Rock Fusion. Umm better than Janis IMO
Candy Givens was a lot better on Zephyr's last album "Sunset Ride". David and Candy Givens brought Jock Bartley on guitar and two other players. The album is a lot more laid back and the songs are well written. I always thought that David Givens was a good bassist after seeing Zephyr in 1970.
I saw Tommy Bolin and Energy in 1972 in Colorado Springs. They supported Ten Years After. The were Great. I was only 13 , so I was Really Amazed watching Tommy. Great night out for a little kid.
The Ultimate,,,,Tommy was a genius.
Loved those old Boulder days. Zephyr badass raw rock’n roll
An amazing guitar player,,he wrote a short but great moment în history of rock!
Great to see more rare Tommy Bolan videos showing up❤️
I think I would have loved Candy Givens❤
Tommy is such a legend
Tommy sounds great!!
I used to see them in Boulder in 1970- -72. The best years of my life. Tommy was a very loving, humble kinda guy.
I moved to Boulder in the summer of 70. I remember Zephyr playing all over town -- wild ass shows where lots of folks were tripping on this and that. Then I remember Tommy going solo and coming back to Boulder walking around on the Hill dressed like a glam rocker.
Lived to fast
I also lived in Boulder in the '70s. I'd see Zephyr often at the Glenn Miller Ballroom on the CU campus and Tulagi's on The Hill. Tommy loved his Echoplex!
She was a great singer can't believe she wasn't huge in music world
"Don't let anybody fuck with you"! God I just love Candy Givens.❤
She was a force to be reckoned with like Janis but she never tried to be Janis just herself & we miss her Janis & Tommy dearly.
God Damn! What a gift to see this!

My dad was friends with him from childhood until Tommy’s death.

WOW!!!!
Awesome
Cool song!
WOW ! Great Stuff !
Thanks DAvid--this really takes me back. Look forward to seeing more...give me a better performance with one camera over the rest anytime...#respect
Tommy was great but established, I think Candy Givens never got credit for how great ands unique she was
Tommy was 18 at this time.
Good job David. Hope everything's great in NZ. Haven't been on Facebook in ages, so you know I was pleasantly suprised to see your name here. (Ps my you tube channel tell you my secret identity.) You did a masterful job my friend. Blessings.
Exemplary parting comments from a powerhouse of a talent.
Saw them Feb 6 1970 in New Orleans.
2/27/70. My 3rd birthday.
How can I see all of this show? I have been wanting to see a Zephyr show.
David Givens, the bassist from Zephyr has recently finished remastering the audio from this show, and his friend in NZ is going to merge it with the restored video footage shown here in this trailer. The full show is coming!
🙌
The ultimate
Part of rock history
Tommy LOOK HIGH! and Candy looks SICK!
my top 3: Robin Trower, Rory Gallagher, Tommy Bolin
Tommy, Trower & Gilmour are my 3 favs 💪

Was it is this being released. It is fantastic!!!
when is this coming out!
i have a live filmore show cd for ten years after....it says zephyr opened for them.......is this that concert?????
Is that a Les Paul gold top? The flag pick guard looks like the one on David Earl Brown's '60 Burst
Yes!
ruclips.net/video/lqriwuIF4lI/видео.html
Joe Bonamassa recently acquired Tommy's US Flag Les Paul.
Not a whole Lotta guitar players were incorporating the effects with Flanger and Echoplex like Tommy was doing in 1970 no less
Flyin fingers. "Don't let anybody fk with ya"

Only goes to show how awesome he would have been for Purple if only by then he'd still have had himself together sufficiently.
Did this ever get released?
It's coming very soon, either by the end of 2024 or early 2025. Video is done, audio is done, just a matter of syncing the two together.
Around the 3 minute mark it appears Tommy wrote "Thunder Struck" by AC/DC.
And Spirit of the radio!😅
@@jimmycoleman5853 LOL
Mandy Givens !!!
Tommy with the Les Paul, now in the hands of Joe Bonamassa!!
Didn't know that. Cool.
🤞
The American Led Zeppelin - except I like this better. The band is tight and Candy Givens' voice is really out of this world.
Cross the river and Hard Chargin Woman from zephyr! tommy Bolin smokes it.....I'm sure Hendrix, Terry Kath, and allguitarists paid attention.....
Led Zeppelin Blow's this band AWAY
Tommy is no ones boy. You may feel that comparing him to Page is a compliment but it ain’t.
👍
Oh,Janis joplin&Jimi Hendris!
Am I wrong?
You're wrong with the Joplin comparison. Givens is not even close to Joplin. Bolin on the other hand.....
Your wrong and you must be SMOKIN something because this woman isn't in Joplin's universe let alone being in her league and Tommy's nothing like jimi
Amen ! Joplin never even came close to what Candy Givens could belt out ...
she just had better management & died first 💀

Sorry but WTF happened with this? Its lame to put something up like this and then ... Nothing
Hehe- the guy from Greta Van Fleet sounds just like her.
Ацтой !
I need drugs to watch it...
imagine how great that would sound without the vocals.
I think that everybody dreams of Zephyr without vocals ...
I'd have to agree with you. I find her voice to be quite grating. Maybe one of the reasons Zephyr never broke big.
The singer has a terrible voice I have to keep skipping the vocals to get to bolins solo's
great guitarist, but that awful untrained terrible singer is why they never made it big
Bolin es el guitarrista más mediocre que jamás vi.
Singer is terrible but Tommy is amazing .
Yep, is it any wonder Tommy left Zephyr after a couple of years. How was he able to listen to that insipid wailing as long as he did?
If my dog had a face like Candy's.. I'd shave its ass and teach it to walk backwards.
