They still might, you know. It was given to Senator Barack Obama, and no-one knows why. He ended up starting...7 very bloody wars and supplying arms to all sides while creating new frenemies with the exact same objectives in Syria and Iraq?
This list is a definition of “performative activism”. They gave Emilia Perez the most nominations because it ticks all the checkboxes…despite being a film that offends a trans community (it reinforces the negative stereotype about them having transition to get away from crimes they committed as a man), offends Mexicans and offends cartel victims with the director who admitted he’s too lazy to hire more Mexican actors or actually learn about Mexican culture.
How do the Oscars revamp? You can't bring back early 90s Billy Crystal. There are no in-their-prime Gene Hackman, Jack Nicholson, Morgan Freeman, Jack Palance or Clint Eastwood. There is no Unforgiven, Pulp Fiction, Silence of the Lamb or Goodfellas. You can't have good shows with this few good movies, with nominees like DEI Nosferatu and the manly woman, and with Conan O'Brien as a host, nice guy though he is. You can't do it with the racial rules. You can't do it with the way the stars are viewed these days. The Oscars is a relic. It is like Gormenghast or Ancient Morla. It has outlasted itself and it doesn’t even remember why it's there.
It's become all fake and pretentious virtue signaling, inside and out. The homeless temporarily get brushed aside while the smell of ruble and ash is still in the air just so they can celebrate their activism as art through the guise of human triumph and achievement with in film.
I get the feeling they confuse "unsuccessful" with "artistically valuable". There have been films by small production companies who hadn't the means of marketing that grew their recognition and success over time. Now you have those multi-billion dollar companies with those dubious hiring practices who produce only cr*p which is just worthy of ignoring and they think it is beacuse it is just to suffisticated for box-office success!
This film is ultimately doing what it wants, getting attention. I slightly doubt it will gain much traction at the awards show due to its intense backlash and then be forgotten.
Usually 75% of the films I never seen an ad, a trailer, a comment on IG or Tiktok, or one of the many people I follow on letterbox. I just know brutalist is a type of architecture. Nosferatu deserved more nominations!
I think the one unifying part of the Oscars is that everyone wants the trans actor to win Best Actress. One side wants it to hit hyper space with their virtue signaling, and the other side wants it to ruthlessly mock how stupid and out-of-touch Hollywood is.
I saw the thumbnail and thought, 'That's an unattractive woman. Why did they choose such an unflattering picture?" Then I realized who it was while the video was playing. 🤦♂️ Remember when acting was about acting a part?
‼️Why are so many people hating on this movie? I saw it and thought it was the best movies I have seen in years. I laughed so hard I just know I pulled something. I rank it up there with SOME LIKE IT HOT and TOOTSIE as one of the best comedies in film history ‼️ 👍🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿
Jodie Comers performance in Bikeriders was DEFINETLY an Oscar-worthy performance. Since that film financially flopped, even Hollywood forgot it existed apparently.
How have we gone from the list of powerful films nominated for best picture in the 80s and 90s to this? This is a decline of epic proportions. The Substance was ok but it wasn’t in the same ballpark as films like Platoon, Schindlers List, The Pianist, Gladiator, The English Patient, Braveheart, Dances with Wolves, Rainman, etc. Anora was decent but it’s the same story. These are decent films but best picture used to be held to a much higher standard.
you are absolutely right. this feels like a filler year. i feel like Palme d'Oro is more serious when it comes to submissions but i haven't followed them for ages.
So a bunch of movies no one saw got nominated for best picture? Imagine my shock! But in all seriousness, the only ones I saw was Dune and Anora (which I very much liked and actually made a profit).
Wicked is an absolutely phenomenal film, so is Dune PART 2. Only ones on the list I have seen. I hope one of those wins. I think Wicked is more likely, the academy and actors seem to love it. I wish Dune part 2 wasn't being ignored by the awards voters now, but I guess that's the risk you run of releasing a film like that so early in the year. I really hope Cynthia Erivo wins best actress, she was terrific in Wicked. And I want Ariana to win best supporting. Unfortunately I think that the best case scenario is Ariana wins. Cynthia will probably lose to win next year, but I hope they both win. More people need to see Wicked.
The Oscars do celebrate big box office movies - Dune part 2 and Wicked are both top 10 box office hits in Best Picture. I wouldn't put Moana 2 in there just because it made money. Emilia Perez won big prizes at Cannes and is just as dominant in BAFTA nominations - it's not a uniquely Hollywood thing, this is a popular movie around the world. I hope The Substance wins, but it will probably end up being The Brutalist or Anora.
I loved A complete Unknown I left happy & smiling it wasn’t a dark horrible end of the world movie done V well. A Complete Unknown is getting a surge I hope it surprises
I don't mind the Oscars giving credit to "the best", even though "the best" (from a film-making standpoint) might not be well known publicly, but I HATE when weak films are pushed forward because its message. The election doesn't go the way Hollywood wanted & they just punish us all.
They desperatly try to insert one movie for every "genre" to please everyone, the woke, the artists, the mainstream audience but in the end you don't get anyone happy. IMO an Oscar should be a creative outstanding achievment (mostly unpopular movies) instead of a popularity vote (Box Office mainstream) and still the Oscar show can honor the movies itself with categorys like a "puplic vote" maybe? Or "Best action stunt work". But keep nominating movies just for their political content (while being mediocre) makes it a joke to every audience.
I've mentioned a few times in my comments on this channel. "The Bikeriders" has some really great performances. It was ignored. Real people in a certain circumstance. Tom Hardy should have been nominated for best supporting actor. Bill Skarsgard for Nosferatu also. I haven't seen "the Substance" yet. Really excited to. Like "The Fly" meets the fountain of youth. LOL! Love the channel! Keep on truckin'!!!
Come on guys, who isn’t psyched to watch at least 3 hours of extraordinarily lucky and pampered narcissists congratulate themselves on being morally superior to half the country?
Demi Moore deserves that Oscar and if the trans actor wins it’s gonna piss a lot of people off and the Oscars have been trying not to do that lately so….
Can’t take black dude’s opinion seriously if he’s only seen 3 of the 10 movies. And calling a movie he hasn’t seen ‘not the best’ is the height of riding the hate train. It’s all just empty blabber.
Everyone is trashing this emila Perez movie what's it even about lol never even heard of it 😅 and Deni Villinue got robbed for best director Dune 2 got snubbed in a couple categories 😢
Ive seen all the nominees. Except the stupid trans one. Betterman was my picture of the year. I'm buying a physical copy the second I can. It was just great
The Best Picture Award goes to the Producer (Budget/Returns) Dune Part 2 should win. Due to the Blockbuster Bombing run of 24. The rest of this list is lame and more worthy of Director and Cast Nominations for critically acclaimed Dramatic performances (Comedy is always ignored) these awards are easy to figure out by who is receiving the most critical acclaim and how much promotion their giving to the Academy. I expect another all time ratings low for the Academy Awards of 25 as Audiences were bombed out of theaters by the Blockbuster Bombs and gave little notice to these smaller Critic acclaimed sectional films that Audiences did not agree with mostly due to the subject matter and or the films handling of it.
Never heard of it until the nomination. Its the big and only talk about the Oscar's. So they win. They got everyone talking about them. Attention. Its a troll job, click bait tactic.
I went into Emlia Perez with an open mind. It's trash. The editing is awful, the story is stupid, the singing is bad and cringe, the acting is fine outside of Selena Gomez, but nothing to write home about.
Except for Ryan Grimm, Alan must be the worst youtuber. Never prepared, doesn't listen to Chris, forgets his points, problems expressing himself, no social skills, not funny (for a stand up guy!!),...
If they could give the Nobel Peace Prize to Emilia Perez, they would.
They still might, you know. It was given to Senator Barack Obama, and no-one knows why.
He ended up starting...7 very bloody wars and supplying arms to all sides while creating new frenemies with the exact same objectives in Syria and Iraq?
They could always give it to whoever wrote the darned thing 🙄😒
@alphacause Perez is not winnings It's another La La Land
It's Brutalist V Anora
Nit to mention the key to the city.
Well, it’d be more justified than giving one to Obama.
I can understand why he didn't want to hire any Mexicans. Pedro Pascal was considered too white to audition.
I have yet to hear a real positive review of the movie by anyone no matter what their political views are.
Agreed, their going for the obvious outliers not best movies
"Let's discuss the 2025 Oscar nominations."
Do we have to, Uncle Alan?
The academy mandates D.E.I, then this happens.
But at least we get to laugh at it all
Some comment said the nominees mostly read like homework instead of great movies people want to celebrate.
Thats about right
The Oscars are over!
It's officially easier for a man to get an Oscar as best actress than for a woman.
As Paul Chato says, "Men make the best women"
THE SUBSTANCE GIVE IT TO THE SUBSTANCE. WHAT A WILD RIDE THAT WAS 😅
I was surprised it was picked. It was such a wild ride and clear an art house horror satire. Not something they normally pick.
@stephennootens916 Demi,s performance sold it and Margaret Quarley. I wished she got the nomination
We should treat the Oscar's like racism, if you want it to go away stop talking about it 😂
Bingo
Thank you.
Unfortunately: RUclipsrs and media live on content.
We ALL know why Emilia Perez got nominated…and it wasn’t because of the cinematogrophy
Yeah I heard it was a real triumph of the human spirit lol
I never even heard of Emilia Perez, so doesn't shock me it got all of these nominations lol
Can't wait till it sweeps all the categories 🤣
Why bother? Does anyone even remember last years Oscar winners?I don’t
Oppenheimer
Just you.
Ironclaw
A man is nominated for best actress 🤷♂️
I watched The Substance last week and I loved it so much. It's a wild fun ride! I can't wait to see it again!
This is an insanely weak list of movies. Hollywood should take a few years off and work on entertaining scripts.
Which films did you see?
Agreed, also so many. I don't remember their being so many nominees for best picture before
How do the Oscars revamp? You can't bring back early 90s Billy Crystal. There are no in-their-prime Gene Hackman, Jack Nicholson, Morgan Freeman, Jack Palance or Clint Eastwood. Where’s Nosferatu?
Wasn't woke and no DEI. So, it was passed over mostly
Nosfertu was probably #12
Exactly! Also Depp's performance in that should have included her in Best Actress category
Probably missed the time gap so it would be in next years list but it’ll be forgotten about by then.
Nosferatu got 4 nominations which is pretty solid, one less than The Substance
I get the feeling they confuse "unsuccessful" with "artistically valuable". There have been films by small production companies who hadn't the means of marketing that grew their recognition and success over time. Now you have those multi-billion dollar companies with those dubious hiring practices who produce only cr*p which is just worthy of ignoring and they think it is beacuse it is just to suffisticated for box-office success!
This film is ultimately doing what it wants, getting attention. I slightly doubt it will gain much traction at the awards show due to its intense backlash and then be forgotten.
When Gascon wins I pray there are lots of reaction shots of the female nominees in the same category.
They will all be clapping like mad (and secretly dying inside)
They have to support it since they have to tow the liberal line😕
Usually 75% of the films I never seen an ad, a trailer, a comment on IG or Tiktok, or one of the many people I follow on letterbox. I just know brutalist is a type of architecture. Nosferatu deserved more nominations!
Agreed, I really liked Depp's performance in that, can't help wonder who stole her nomination spot for best actress 😑
Re Emilia Perez: This is the person who went topless at the Whitehouse, right? I believe this actor is that individual, but I could be wrong.
That was Rose Montoya, apparently.
@anthonymcglinch7503 Thanks for the correction. I forgot about that person.
Nosferatu and Challengers deserved to be nominated for Best Picture more than Emilia Perez.
Nosferatu yeah, Challengers was poo though
'A Complete Unknown' could be the name of most of the best picture nominees as far as I'm concerned.
I can't trust anyone who hasn't seen the VVitch.
More reason for me to never support hollywood ever again.
I think the one unifying part of the Oscars is that everyone wants the trans actor to win Best Actress.
One side wants it to hit hyper space with their virtue signaling, and the other side wants it to ruthlessly mock how stupid and out-of-touch Hollywood is.
There's controversy with brutalist because it used AI in parts.
Conclave was a terrible movie. Offensive to religion, to the intellect, and if youre a writer - its insulting as a writer too. Terrible
I like it. I thought it was a solid adult thriller that use to be a dime a dozen.
I am a Catholic and thought it was a great thriller 👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿
Absolute rubbish…
Totally agree
Dante is soooo handsome!
I saw the thumbnail and thought, 'That's an unattractive woman. Why did they choose such an unflattering picture?" Then I realized who it was while the video was playing. 🤦♂️ Remember when acting was about acting a part?
I miss those days
That poster looks like a dart board
Well at least there's a use for it lol
Juror #2 would deserve to be nominated in any year.
‼️Why are so many people hating on this movie? I saw it and thought it was the best movies I have seen in years. I laughed so hard I just know I pulled something. I rank it up there with SOME LIKE IT HOT and TOOTSIE as one of the best comedies in film history ‼️
👍🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿
It’s MA’AM!!!!: The Musical
We're winning, lads!
And they forget about Dune... but movies that are not even out can get nominations 🙄
What do you mean? All nominated movies must have had at least a limited release in the prior year. That's been the case for as long as I can remember.
Dante is right, the Oscars aren't really mainstream anymore. Their "too good" for the masses now unfortunately.
This years list is an absolute smelling your own farts convention.
This is that gay trans movie that Chris tried to say was good and to “give a chance”
Jodie Comers performance in Bikeriders was DEFINETLY an Oscar-worthy performance. Since that film financially flopped, even Hollywood forgot it existed apparently.

you are absolutely right. this feels like a filler year. i feel like Palme d'Oro is more serious when it comes to submissions but i haven't followed them for ages.
Agreed, these seem like the movies that are left, not thee movies that should be nominated
I'd rather watch the Substance then any of those movies you listed.
So a bunch of movies no one saw got nominated for best picture?
Imagine my shock!
But in all seriousness, the only ones I saw was Dune and Anora (which I very much liked and actually made a profit).
I only saw A Complete Unknown, the rest I never heard of or barley heard of
Casa Bonita Mi Amor deserves a nod for Best Documentary.
Dune part 2 is the best movie of the year. Should have the nominations they give to Emilia Perez.
Wicked is an absolutely phenomenal film, so is Dune PART 2. Only ones on the list I have seen. I hope one of those wins. I think Wicked is more likely, the academy and actors seem to love it. Cynthia will probably lose to win next year, but I hope they both win. More people need to see Wicked.
Just change the name to the DEI Movie Awards and call it a day.
Would love if the other women in best actress category just didn't show in protest. Maybe then the Oscars will come back to life
Dante hasn’t even seen Anora? What a joke… Hard pass on his opinions on any of this.
The academy should go back to five best picture nomination
The Oscars do celebrate big box office movies - Dune part 2 and Wicked are both top 10 box office hits in Best Picture. I wouldn't put Moana 2 in there just because it made money. Better Man = Best Movie
Dune part 2 got so screwed over.
Bikeriders was a decent flick…
Not so much Skarsgard, but Depp really should have been nominated for best actress
If you think 2024 was a weak year for films you obviously didn't see many.
the movies probably great..... she is probably fantastic hope she wins
Totally skipping this Oscars.
Come on guys, who isn’t psyched to watch at least 3 hours of extraordinarily lucky and pampered narcissists congratulate themselves on being morally superior to half the country?
The Substance
Dune II was very good.
Strong disagree about the complete unknown. It did surprisingly well, we went to see it was a few house like a week or so after it came out.
10 nominations for horror. I like that.
Demi Moore deserves that Oscar and if the trans actor wins it’s gonna piss a lot of people off and the Oscars have been trying not to do that lately so….
Is Alan related to uncle Roger ? I bet ng is the most common last name but thatd he cool 😂
Film"s involvement with the Oscars has been incidental for a decade. It's the who can the most racist pos awards.
It's about a ruthless, murderous drug cartel boss who transitions to a woman and Mrs. Doubtfire. Not joking. I watched it a few nights ago.
The apprentice got two nominations in acting, though, so that kinda balances things out in regards to wokeness. But I hope Demi wins😊
Ive seen all the nominees. Except the stupid trans one. Betterman was my picture of the year. I'm buying a physical copy the second I can. It was just great
WTF!? A dude in a dress gets a best actress nomination. Angelia Jolie I am sorry sorry for your theft🙏🏿
The way people are so triggered by the Oscars is hilarious!!! There are real problems in the world, kids. Go outside maybe?
The Best Picture Award goes to the Producer (Budget/Returns) Dune Part 2 should win. Due to the Blockbuster Bombing run of 24. So they win. They got everyone talking about them. Attention. Its a troll job, click bait tactic.
Emilia Perez being nominated is a giant load of shit dude lol
At least Wicked was light hearted. The seem like downers 😮💨
Oscar talk? Usually i do film threat. I will pass and look for something else. Complete absurdity.
A really bad year. This year's "best picture" winner will be forgotten very soon, like "Coda" and "Nomadland".
Nomadland was terrible, a pretentious piece of exploitation. CODA felt too much like a hallmark movie.
I see a lot of this. “I haven’t seen the majority of these films, but I know that they suck and last year was better”. 😆😆😆
That's a he Alan, stop calling him she. It's ok trump brought back common sense
Don't care EP it's for Best movie? You lost ur chair un the table my red glasses guy
I went into Emlia Perez with an open mind. It's trash. The editing is awful, the story is stupid, the singing is bad and cringe, the acting is fine outside of Selena Gomez, but nothing to write home about.
Oppenheimer is overrated as hell and I'm tired of the Nolan glaze. He hasn't made anything interesting since freakin inception.
Bizarre
Absolutely a joke at this point
First time I was aware of oscar bait was Kramer vs Kramer, I had my own name for oscar fodder as I didn't know there was a term for it.
ct
If there were better blockbuster movies they would be on the list.
It's all rubbish.
Except for Ryan Grimm, Alan must be the worst youtuber. Never prepared, doesn't listen to Chris, forgets his points, problems expressing himself, no social skills, not funny (for a stand up guy!!),...

It is almost certainly RUclips that is deleting your comment. There is an AI censor that can be very aggressive.
It's RUclips algo.
