  • A fun combo / tutorial for Warlocks that fires off 13 missiles a turn (and also a dagger). Once again we see a showing from the goodest boi feat Metamagic Adept to let us play with Metamagic outside of sorcerers, and the traditional dip into Fighters for Action Surge for a little more juice in the combo.

    *Bazinga!* It was a tutorial for DMs all along!
    This is just one of millions of busted combos that abuse powerful, cheap items from the DMG. Use the community made Sane Magic Item Prices guide to keep the economy in check (or don't, *memes are the highest currency,* after all). I might make a longer video talking about this in detail in the future, time depending.
    Also, Wand of Magic Missiles doesn't require attunement, so you could theoretically buy dozens of them, and keep swapping to the next wand each turn, repeating this every round! Enjoy your Rocket Launcher Gatling Gun, you beautiful Warlock maniacs

      you could also (with a lenient dm) fire off 24 blasts of scorching ray in 1 turn as a maxed warlock with some fighter lvls. granted it is max lvl, but just imagine the slow spread of fear on that poor goblins face seeing 24 beams of fire racing towards it.

      What about the eldritch kobold Mongol sniper?
      - Be a Kobold and a warlock then reach level 4
      - Eldritch blast as a cantrip (obviously)
      - at lvl 2 take Eldritch Spear (which makes the range of eldritch blast from 120ft to 300ft)
      - reach lvl 4 on Warlock and take the Spell Sniper (which doubles the range of spells aka turning eldritch blast into 600ft)
      - now purchase a mount that's considered your ally and since you're a kobold you have pack tactics which will give you advantage on all of your eldritch blast
      *extra* - taking it further beyond take 3 levels into sorcerer and take the metamagic Distant Spell to double the range of eldritch blast yet again to 1200ft with advantage because Kobold with a mount
      This was a dumb thought I had after looking into Warlocks and the name of my Kobold is Yeetus Deletus. Have fun eldritch yeeters!

      @@GorkyWings the ally must be within 5 ft of the enemy being attacked so either your mount is tanky as hell somehow or you're not getting advantage from pack tactics.
      Also kobolds have sunlight sensitivity so no advantage in sunlight, you can't see your target in darkness, and have disadvantage to spot your opponent to be able to attack them in dim light. You can only pull this off in a massive well lit cave or room or outside at night with some fortunate light sources.

    When you cast a spell as a bonus action (even a cantrip) you are limited to cantrips for the rest of the turn. A Wand of Magic Missiles allows you to cast Magic Missile, following the normal spellcasting rules.
    You can triple down on Eldritch Blast, but if you cast a leveled spell it would need to be the bonus action. You could forget the bonus action and use Action Surge to cast two leveled spells, including those from a wand etc.
    A fighter of mine used 3 and then 4 charges from a WoMM using Action Surge a few times. 11 missiles isn't a bad use of a turn.

    • @Ryudo700
      @Ryudo700 2 года назад +1

      The key to this statement the rest of the turn means everything after the bonus action, plus if you cast a leveled spell you also can't cast anything but a cantrip even as a bonus action. The build presented works though with rules as written.

    • @H4LFsanity
      @H4LFsanity 2 года назад +3

      "You can't cast another spell during the same turn, except for a cantrip with a casting time of 1 action."
      Order doesn't matter.

    • @lavendersugar143
      @lavendersugar143 2 года назад +2

      Arguable. "While holding it, *you can use an action* to expend 1 or more of its charges to cast the magic missile spell *from it.* For 1 charge, *you cast* the 1st-level version[....]" As far as I see it, there are three possible readings here.
      1. You use the item to cast the spell, but your action is out towards the Cast a Spell action/bonus action/etc. The spell comes from you, and thus you can quicken it. This, I think, is less likely to be accurate, but J Craw did confirm that you can use metamagic on stages and wands and such, so take that as you will.
      2. You use the item to cast the spell, and the spell comes from the magic wand itself. That would mean that your action is not casting the spell, but instead is the Use a Magic Item action/bonus action/etc. So you do have to use your action to use the wand, but you're totally free to use your bonus action to quicken eldritch blast. I think this is a bit more accurate, and also even better since you aren't limited to quickening a cantrip - you can quicken anything.
      3. You use the item to cast the spell and the spell does come from you, but the wand restricts you to casting it as an action exclusively. This is obviously the worst option, but in my opinion the least likely to be correct. In DnD 5e, when a spell is cast it is almost always clear that it must come from a single source. However, this reading essentially implies that the spell comes from both you _and_ the wand. It also probably goes against J Craw's statement to some extent, and though his word isn't law, it gives good insight into intended reading of the text.

    Similar trick you can pull as a level 11 Artificer:
    Play an Artillerist, and put Scorching Ray into your Spell Storing item. Have your Eldritch Canon out and Set to Ballista. Use your action to cast Scorching Ray/use your spell storing item, your Hasted action to use your Spell Storing Item (which is not a Magic item and therefore falls under the Use an Object action rather than Use a Magic Item action), and then Bonus action to fire a Ballista Shot. Rinse and repeat for all 9 rounds of your haste if you’re using your second and third level spell slots on Scorching Ray, and enjoy making 7-8 attacks per round. Stack on top of an ally giving you advantage (Faerie Fire, Hold Person, Kobold Pack Tactics), and have fun!

      at later levels you can spend your 4th and 5th level spell slots on Tiny Servant, have them line up along the length of a quarterstaff (7-8 feet in length by definition) and instruct them all to use the spell storing quarterstaff to blow the whole thing at once off of one bonus action command. 10 shatters, scorching rays, or even magic missiles if you feel like it for 30d8 thunder damage (off of 10 saves), 60d6 fire damage (off of 30 attack rolls), or 30d4+30 guaranteed force damage.
      it’s not like artificers have anything better to do with 4th and 5th level spell slots.

    • @Hazel-xl8in
      @Hazel-xl8in Год назад

      reviewing the 4th level spells of an artificer: you get elemental bane, which is normally a bad spell. however, the damage of elemental bane happens once *per turn,* and each tiny servant *gets their own turn.* add 20d6 to that calculation for scorching ray and shatter (odds of hitting 1/3 scorching rays for each servant is extremely high, and shatter is guaranteed half damage at least).

    As commented elsewhere, but it deserves restating so as to have a more current note of it in the feed: WoMM allows *you* to cast the MM spell; per the books and clarified by Crawford/WotC, when an item says "you cast" or "allows you to cast", or similar language, it is the character casting "x". In that context, you can BA any spells because you already cast a spell of 1st level or higher (which the BA spell rule forbids). So you can use the wand and, say, Action Surge to cast "x" spell, but you couldn't BA any additional spells (before or after during that turn).

    I still like the 'Eldritch Minigun' sorlock with Quickened Spell and Eldritch Blast that can, at level 5, do 4d10 damage. This may not seem like a whole lot on it's own, but this is also going to slip past a DM much more easily. Plus. Agonizing blast really adds to the power of this build.

    This is very similar to my Eldritch repulsor build. online at level 7 with alot of flexibility after that. 2 Warlock, grab Agonizing Blast and Repelling Blast, 2 Fighter, 3 Sorcerer grab quicken spell. as soon as it's online you get a round of 6 bolts, each of which can push enemies 10ft. as you level it goes up to 12 in that one round, so you'll want spellsniper or eldritch spear later on. You can go more warlock for more invocations, more fighter for more ASI and armor, or more sorcerer for more rounds of 8 blasts and spells.

      It's actually better to play as some basic build at first, then later on try a really busted build, perhaps just for a one-shot.
      Getting to play as a maxed-out char too soon, and you might get bored with D&D, since you know there's no way to top it, at least performance/damage-wise.
      It's kinda like with some drug, you'll quickly be trying to get even more "high" or whatever the effect is, but hitting the ceiling and knowing that's the best there is, playing a basic or non-optimal build later on is going to feel rather lackluster.
      With D&D or TTRPG's in general, it should be about trying out campaigns, doing random stuff with your friends and having fun with that.

    Pretty much. With the addition of Tasha’s Cauldron and the Magic Adept feat, one of my favorite builds is sorcerer with a small fighter dip. You can use the Spell Sniper feat to shoot enemies 240 ft away with up to 12 beams at lvl 17! When you eventually run out of sorcery points just spend a round using a powerful AOE spell and reloading your sorcery points with another spell slot!

    If you take Shadow Touched as a lvl 1 custom lineage you can learn hex. If you are a mage you can cast hex on your first turn and on the subsequent turns you can just blow your marked enemies with 3d4+3d6+3 per first level spell slot. And if the enemy dont have the shield spell the damage cant be avoided.

    i'm working on a variation of this for my artificer gunslinger. but it need at least 7 levels. 5 in artificer and 2 in fighter. take the sharpshooter feat at lvl 4, and use faerie fire to get advantage, for the subclass i have battle smith. use the repeating shot infusion on your pistol (this is a gunslinger after all) now if you have +4 int your pistol will do 1d10+5 with a +8 to hit, get hasted, now you will do 5 attacks at 1d10+15 (with a +3 to hit but with advantage) and you can have your dog attack too for another 1d8+3. so if they all hit that's 5d10+75, they wont all hit though, so calculating for that, dpr calc comes to around 84.26. lot's of pew-pews.

    Well, if we are talking about wands of magic missile, then take a look at Xanathars crafting rules.
    I won't go into the specifics, but let's just say that mass produced wands of MM with a 6th level MM every turn (or two with a familiar) is pretty busted.
    Also, since the wands CAN break, they are consumables and thus cost half as much gold and half as much time to craft.

    • @DnDShorts
      @DnDShorts  2 года назад

      I need to look into crafting more! If this is the case it's definitely busted with the wand and worthy of another video of its own!

    • @jessie-buns839
      @jessie-buns839 2 года назад +1

      I don't think just because they can break doesn't mean they're consumables. Consumables usually mean a set and definite number of uses

    • @jimmehjiimmeehh9748
      @jimmehjiimmeehh9748 2 года назад +1

      Yeah consumable doesn't include things that can break, it includes things that will be consumed upon use (so potions). If it can survive being used, it's not a consumable.

    • @symmetry8049
      @symmetry8049 2 года назад

      @@jimmehjiimmeehh9748 @Jessie-buns hmm.. Is there a specific definition of "consumable" within the rules? If not it would probably depend upon the DM if the Wands were to count as consumable or not.
      Well, regardless of the outcome, the actual strategy of amassing tons of these wands stays the same, and might just become more expensive.

    • @jimmehjiimmeehh9748
      @jimmehjiimmeehh9748 2 года назад +1

      @@symmetry8049 It's the meaning of the word and so there's no specific rule for it, at least that I know.
      I think you're getting confused by the way parts in realworld machinery tend to be considered consumables because they will eventually wear out from use, but in the DnD setting a wand won't break unless it is purposefully broken (either through exhausting it or from specifically damaging it) so it's not a consumable.
