People getting mad at Piastri for Lando's skill issue is wild
Lando is still the higher positioned driver when you look at points so the team should have swapped them. Yes, Lando is perhaps choking but still has a chance at the WDC. Something which Piastri doesn't afaik.
PS: idc, I'm a Lewis fan and I'm over the moon Charles and Ferrari won at Monza, so there's that :D
@@trosc problem is whenever its a close race between Piastri and Norris like this but Piastri comes out on top, people's IQ drops by 20 points and the pitch forks all come out for Piastri like he single handedly ruin everything when it couldn't be further from the truth. Lando is the only driver on the grid that people expect should be treated with kid gloves.
It's just McLaren's issue for not managing their drivers correctly Lando should be priority but team isn't giving him that so not Piastri's problem we all know and love that if he sees a chance to overtake he always goes for it. That being said I don't think it was a great decision by Oscar to compromise Lando out of that turn and give Leclerc the chance to overtake him they should've worked together to pull away from the Ferraris but at the end of the day Ferrari had a great strategy with that 1 stop and probably would've won anyways

This entire race weekend was absolutely amazing. F3 race was bonkers. F2 race was crazy. F1 race yet again delivered. Even the Sprint races were well worth watching. It's gotta be the best race weekend I've seen in a LONG time.

I think Ricciardo’s second penalty was undeserved. The mechanic didn’t actually do anything and kept his hands to himself once he remembered. When the time was up, he wasn’t touching the car.
Rules are rules though. Even though the touch on the car was a split second, it still is considered as working on the car
absolute BS, penalising Ricc for something he did not even do..also this squeeze allegation…he was in front of Hulk, and he was on the racing line..that 5 second penalty was bollocks in the first place..he got deprived of 15 seconds gaining up on the field..he could have scored at least a point

At 7:44 about weather forecast. Credit where's due, weather here in Northern Italy becomes very unpredictable in these scenarios. Sometimes is scathing hot and sunny and in late afternoon you can be struck by a rain shower that seemingly popped out of nowhere. Here where I live, 100 miles westward, it's exactly what happened right today. 30+ degrees and sun, and in 40 minutes we got hit by a proper storm.
Anyway, glad you can continue your series, never missing one and it's a pleasure to hear and see. Keep cracking on this!
I groaned when Oscar pitted for his second set of tyres. I had a feeling that Charles was going with the one stop strategy. Drivers aren't using the hard compound to their potential. George did this a few weeks back and now Charles. Tyre management will make the difference between winning and losing which sucks balls making every race reasonably predictable imo...
My thoughts during the race as a McLaren fan:
Yes, start just about nailed, Russell gave me a bit of a scare.

I think that gap between the Ferraris looks too big.
Ok, Oscar's got past Sainz pretty quickly, how much can he close?
Crofty, don't hype this up, Leclerc is good at managing his tyres, he's got the gap.
Chapeau, Charles and Ferrari.
Still, some good points for the Constructors, and can we put Ferrari in the fight perhaps if they keep getting up there? And Norris closes in a little on Verstappen. The thing is, people will say that McLaren choked this, but I'm not sure what else they could've done; both drivers were struggling with graining, which made the one-stop more risky. In fact, both drivers didn't believe they could do a one-stop in the first place. And Piastri just looked like the faster driver throughout, though I think there is a bit of a caveat in that free air really helps.
Also, for all the people saying 'this is costing Norris a title chance', 'McLaren are being too conservative' or 'they don't deserve to win the title', etc., etc., the gap between Norris and Verstappen going into the summer break was 78 points. So, ten races left. Zandvoort, he closed in on Verstappen by 8 points. He took another 8 points out of him today. So based on the maths, he's actually pretty much on target. Still, the only way I'll accept that the fight for the driver's title is truly on is if Verstappen has a DNF or two. And I find that somewhat unlikely.
honestly shoutout to you, one of the most levelheaded mclaren fans i've seen on the internet. mclaren is the only team i root against but i'm 100% with you on everything you said. i think the mclaren loss was just ferrari outsmarting them and not necessarily a mistake on mclaren's part, and at the same time people acting like lando has already won the championship is definitely too ambitious
@@tallemajas Thanks. My feeling for the last couple of months or so has been that McLaren have a car that's ready for a title fight before the team themselves are. Essentially, I'm of the view that they're basically having to relearn how to be a frontrunning team again having spent a decade in the midfield, and it's shown at several points this year. People need to remember that this is a very different McLaren, and indeed F1, to how they were in 2012 (even though the Constructors Standings currently have a very 2012 look about them). Norris, Piastri, the team on the pitwall etc., they'll all be learning a lot about themselves as this season goes on, and hopefully it bodes well for a proper crack at the title in the near future.
Mind if I ask why McLaren are the only team you root against? Just curious, seeing as they seem to be one of the most popular teams these days.
I mean team orders atleast for a clean lap 1 would've easily gotten Lando 3 or even 10 more points. Also the Mclarens would've likely pulled away enough to prevent Charles one stop from working as well at it did, instead of letting Charles take P2 and stay close enough to Oscar(who still had to master tyre management)

I think another question is, do McLaren think that a shot at the driver's title is realistic for either of their drivers, or do they just focus on the constructors as that seems a more realistic prospect, and in terms of the WDC fight, learn what they can from this year and use it to have a more prepared crack at it in 2025? The title chance this year, however slim, has kind of fallen into their lap as Red Bull have faltered, and remember, McLaren were solid but unspectacular at the start of the season, third fastest behind Red Bull and Ferrari. That allowed Verstappen to build his advantage, which even though Red Bull are faltering, is at this stage still very much defendable. Checo's struggles in the other car are one of the main reasons why McLaren and Ferrari are even in range of Red Bull as far as the WCC is concerned.

Man, the McLaren strategy team is so bad it could fuck up a wet dream.
The Safety Car didn't lose the rear end mate. The brakes completely failed. So Mylander deliberately spun the car to lessen the impact into the wall. Pretty smart really. Losing your brakes at 160mph in a normal car can be catastrophic. The G impact blew out all the windows in the car.
They should now give it to Lance as his company ride
Good race and what a drive by Charles. McLaren got out strategied by Ferrari which is saying something nice to see the grid much more competitive up front the last few weekends anyone from those top 4 teams (other than Perez) seems to have a chance to win any given race

My favourite part was stroll pitting for softs on the 51st lap and still not getting the fastest lap and finishing 19th

Not as bad a weekend for McLaren as it might seem. Sure the win was lost but 22 points gained in the constructors and Lando gained the 8 points needed over Max.

Also I think this was good race, not the best but, pretty good. One thing is for sure about the 2024 season, is it's probably one of the least predictable seasons in F1 since at least 2012. Like even in 2021 which was great until it suddenly wasn't, we knew either Lewis or Max was probably going to win the race unless something absurd (Bottas Bowling) would happen, but this year most weekends there are 7 cars that could win the race, and more than half the grid has won races (13 race winners, 10 of which are multiple race winners)
Thank god I'm not a Danny Ric fan anymore. I haven't paid attention to him all season.
Oscar is Aussie and so he has my support.
Max is doing just fine. Not winning for a long time but still 63 point lead. 2 DNFs and he is still 26 X 2 = 11 points ahead.
Provided the driver in second place starts on pole, maintains first position and has a fastest lap
I know how much you LOVE argentines, but you have to hand it to Colapinto. He at least finished on the lead lap and didn't bin it in the first few turns. As an American, I am sad to see Sergeant go, but It was obvious. He needed one or two more years in F2, he was rushed up too early. I am honestly a little proud of Colapinto, even thought he was MILES off Alonso.
Also to any NASCAR fans, think of Logan as JJ Yaley. Rushed up too fast to replace a driver who left at the end of the year and crashed a shit ton despite occasionally showing pace.

The breaks of the safety car failed not losing the read end💀 he did that to lose momentum and speed to slow the impact down..

& with this Championship is sort of over. Max willl have to do at least one DNF, or maybe even two, or at least finish off podium a number of times and still DNF one race to keep the hopes alive.
And thats sort of can't happen. its still a 63 point lead. So NOPE, thats not really happening.
Though if Lando NOW wins all races, and Max finishes P3 or lower, then maybe something is possible. Like then maybe if Max finishes P3, 4-5 times, then yeah something still might be possible.
BUT AS WE ALL KNOW, NONE OF THIS IS POSSIBLE
