  • Today we take a look at the Intel i7 14700K that I recently upgraded to from my i7 13700KF to see if it is worth making the upgrade and if you are better off sticking with the 13th gen rather than the 14th gen.
    Thank you Gigabyte Aorus South Africa for sending me this gift i7.

    Of course, when you are upgrading from an i7-2600 (3rd gen?) because you are replacing a 13-year-old machine, it probably is a reasonable choice anyway. Yes, my old Dell XPS 3900 from many years ago started throwing enough controller errors (even after drive replacement) that it was time to retire it. Past a certain point, it's time to let it go, and 13 years of service isn't half bad. If I get a few more fps on the display, I'll be OK, but it probably won't make a difference to these tired old eyes. But thanks for the review, and I doubt I'll have too many issues on the upgrade.

    Just made the jump myself today from a 12700k. Saw a 19% single core boost in Cinebench but a whopping 63% multicore boost which was the whole reason I did the upgrade. 12 cores sounds like more than enough but when doing hour long compile jobs it really isn't. Plus I didn't have to pay for inflated AM5 prices and give up gaming performance.
    Everyone drools all over X3D reviews showing it beating Intel at 1080p with a 4090 like anyone with a 4090 is still using a ghetto 1080p display. The second you test it at realistic settings with a realistic GPU it's no better than most current GPUs and horribly overpriced for an 8 core. Then the second you turn off that game and _really_ ask the CPU to work the 14700 absolutely annihilates the 7800x3d in non-gaming workloads.
    AMD makes perfectly fine gaming CPUs, *_OR_* decent workload CPUs, but you don't get the best of both worlds unless you want to pony up $600 for a 7950x3d. Too many reviewers only care about gaming benchmarks because they get Threadrippers given to them for free for their content creation. Us normal people don't have the luxury of multiple systems for different tasks. If you care about mixed use at all not only is Intel competitive but the clear winner by a large margin. Even the 14600 can almost keep up with the far more expensive 7900x in multi core, and beats it in gaming. And that thing launched at a ridiculous $550.
    It's laughable what AMD charges for CPUs and motherboards these days. And you know it's not the AIBs because Z boards for Intel with identical features are cheaper than X670 boards.

    • @Jacqie
      @Jacqie  4 месяца назад +1

      Yeah the performance increase in gaming isn't a lot and I also saw much greater performance increases with multicore.

    • @zodwraith5745
      @zodwraith5745 4 месяца назад +1

      Depends on if you're looking at an i5, i7, or i9. The i5 and i9 are essentially identical across 13th and 14th gen, so there's zero reason to pay more for 14th gen. Whereas the i7 gets an E core boost from 8 E cores to 12 E cores bringing it closer to the i9's 8+16. The i7 is really the only 14th gen CPU that makes any sense when they're always more expensive than 13th gen.

    Hello, i'm gonna buy new pc in next week and I'm thinking about 13700k, 14700k or 14700kf, I currently have Intel 3rd generation, so each one will be much better, but which one will serve me longer and will not heat up (is the temperature difference noticeable?) If you are using a 360 AIO all of them will be fine in terms of temperature. I would suggest if the budget fits it to rather go for the 14th gen because it is the newer series so it will last you longer, but all of them perform really well in games and at a very similar level

    8-4 pin Motherboard need all pins? also 750 watt good? 2070 s and i7 14 gen

    • @Jacqie
      @Jacqie  6 месяцев назад

      yeah the 2070 requires at least 650W so the 750W should be fine, you can always go for 850W just to be safe, but if you have the 750W then no problem. And not completely understanding what you are asking about the motherboard pins? Do you mean should you use an 8pin connector for CPU power or both 8 and 4?
      If your motherboard has an 8pin and 4pin for CPU power then use 8pins for sure. You don't need to use both.
      The right 4-pin-connector is basically a redundancy that the CPU may draw upon under extreme load most likely only relevant when you do extreme overclocking, but for standard use the 8pin will be fine.
