Really? Why do you call it a singing language? 😆 Thanks! I hope to continue doing some future lessons but maybe with an actual instructor or something 🤔
Brian Velez I think it’s other people who call it that. Think it’s because we go up and down alot in tone when we speak or when we are feeling serious or not. Alot is high or low depending on what u mean when u speak 😄
My impression is that the app pronounciation is more casual, day-to-day, colloquial, while the samples with pictures tend to be more articulated and careful. The app often reflects more how people actually speak day-to-day.
@@neville1311 That's mainly young people that have this new habit of talking as it is written, letter by letter. A very new phenomenon that was regarded as very uneducated when I was young. (It's called skriftspråksuttal in Swedish.)
This app mixes proper pronunciation with a pronunciation that you would use in an actual conversation. At the word “ja” = yes you didn’t even get to hear the proper pronunciation. The normal way of saying yes would be a long a or “jaA” so you jump up with a short a after a long a sound
Im assuming the accents also change depending on the region the person was raised 🤔 that had never crossed my mind! I got to keep trying I suppose haha
Brian Velez yeah like in Skåne (a province type region thing) they would probably say “jao” so it does differ but the dialects weren’t that strong in this one I don’t think
Brian Velez I am super interested in languages and the science, linguistics and phonetics so I tend to really want to explain why the language is like that 😅
Not the best app for learning a new language in my opinion, BUT, I have to say, you did really good :) and you actually impressed me with your pronouncement on å! :D And NO, you don´t have to speak fast to speak Swedish ;)

So good job!
I'm Swedish and I have to say your pronouncing was great, I understand that for other countries å,ä and ö is hard to pronounce. I can give some tip, our R are "rolling", aeiouyåäö - those letters are more "extended" (which is where the more singing part comes in). I hope that this tip will help :)
Thank you so much 😆 definitely gets hard to get all the rules down that’s for sure, but I appreciate you clarifying! Swedish has more vowels than I had imagined 😱
I think you did a really good job, especially for trying it for the first time! I don't think the app was very good though, they spoke with different dialects and the speaker voice mostly pronounced things the way we say them in conversation which could be a pretty confusing mixture. Just earlier today I saw a video where they talked about the different swedish dialects and how to sound more like a native speaker, it was called "Understanding the Swedish pitch accent" on the channel academia cervena in case you're interested, it was a pretty interesting video! :) Also I don't know if dozens of people have already said this but swedish is basically a mixture of english, german and french. It is a germanic language though, which is why it's technically easier for someone who speaks english (which is also a germanic language) to learn swedish than for example spanish or french since those are romance languages. Anyways, great video! :)
English isn’t really phonetically consistent, so you almost can never guess what a word sounds like by reading words if you aren’t familiar with English patterns or anything besides standard English pronunciation. Swedish is a lot more consistent with sounds, so you can mostly guess what a word "sounds like" once you know the standard pronunciation of letters. English is like Chinese when you LITERALLY have to memorize every single character/symbol/word individually. I didn’t realize this until I began to learn languages.
Hur är läget. That means How is the situation (reffering to the person of which you are talking tos situation) we don’t have the word “the” we just as letters at the end. Situation = läge. The situation = läget.
Personally I think the "tack" sounded really good too o.O The "hejdå" was like any swede :O The "r" are often silent in common words or sayings, very unclear for non-natives which ones that are silent and which ones aren't though XD "hur ä läget", "nu shö vi", "vashågo"/"varshego", "fölåt", "gomorron" (takes away other letters instead), "gonatt", "ja(g)", "Läge" is also "situation" which is a much more suited translation in that context, so, "how is the situation?"/"hur är läget"/"what's up". Ja, can be said many different ways but mean pretty much the same just as yes can be be said like yep, yeah, ye. The same with nej. "näe" as the AI(?) said is pretty much the same as "nah" in english. No idea what so ever why "att må" is in there, either way it's only followed by different versions of good or bad. Att må bättre/to feel better, att må fantastiskt/to feel amazing or att må jättedåligt/to feel really bad. "å" instead of "att" is really depending on dialect, most would probably pronounce it like "att" instead of "å". "är" is pronounced as "ä" except those Stockholm people who seems scared of the letter ä. You did great! The number 7 can actually be pronounced in two different ways where one way seems to be easier to pronounce for some people. And you can say yes as they do in the northern part of Sweden: a short inhale.
First off, greetings from Sweden and secondly you pronounce the words pretty good enough to travel to Sweden and speak with a swede (at least those words you learned)
both pronunciations of the different words are right, it's just that you can say them in a bunch of different ways, and despite the country's small populations there are huge differences between accents. like "ja" is normally pronounced more like "aa"
Haha awhhh, thank you so much! If only I could go into radio 🤣 but I mess up so much it’s probably best for me to stick to doing what I do from the comfort of my home 😝 I appreciate the feedback 🙌🏼
You don't have to speak fast :D But people typically do. I would say this app is pretty good in that it uses actual speech instead of these unrealisticly slow letter by letter pronunciuations you often see in other language courses. It gives an appreciation for and a sense of the rhythm of the language.
Just as a tip, the second speaker serves as more of a casual pronunciation, wheras the first speaker serves as a more literal and formal pronunciation, which is why it sounds a bit off. As someone who is a native english speaker who can speak swedish, i was in the exact same boat as you and totally understand the confusion. 👍🏻
The reason the parts in Vi and the other examples here sounded different comes down to dialect, some parts differ quite a lot in how you pronounce words in Sweden.

I'm from Sweden and I actually kept correcting youuuuu- and every time you said something was off I was like "It's because they have different accents I-"

We like to make letters silent. Like "Godmorgon" [God-morgon] which literally means good (god) morning (morgon). But people like to pronounce it "gomorgon" or "gomorron". Mostly due to dialect or people going with what is quicker (easier) or rather simplest to say (becuase people are THAT lazy). They even shortcut through words.
It the depends on where your from like nu kör vi becomes more like nu kör ve in the western part it actually mostly differs from village to village and city from city region from region
Every time some American asks me if I can learn them some simple Swedish I always ask: alright do you want the actual Swedish or just how we pronounce the words cause we can miss a lot of letters when we speak :)
Think you did really well. Maybe like a 7 out of 10. You pronounced some words in the first part allmost like a swede. "Hallå" is a word that can be used to get someones attention like on the phone "Hallå ?" - "Hello?" Or on a distance but allsow as a "Hi". "Godmorgon" is written "God morgon" (Good morning) in swedish but we usually shorten it to "Go'morron" and that is more like the way the app/guy says it and you said "God morgon" like it would be in a more clean swedish. The same thing with "Godnatt" (Goodnight) it is written "God natt"(good night) or Go'natt (like the app/guy). Keep on trying and you will get it. You seem to have a good ear for languages :-)
Sup! You missed these ones: Å, Ä, Ö Å sounds oh Ä sounds eh Ö sounds oeh You welcome! Also, the reason you hear it differently, is because of the accent... An accent from Stockholm, sounds different from Göteborg, and so forth and so on...
I agree with my fellow Swedes, you are really good at the pronunciation, but to be brutally honest, the app sucked 🙈 They talk with dialects and not the proper way to learn the language. I've never heard that the swedish word 'sju' is the word we always try non swedes to say, you should try 'sjuksköterska' instead 😉 meaning nurse. Keep up the good work, love your videos 👌🏻🤩
If you want to do another video sometime, I would be happy to help you as a native Swede :) That app was a solid 4 out of 10 and you have way more potential
The other voice yoi think sounds weird. Well it speaks: Riks svenska It's kinda all accents. I think she says things better like whit "nej" She says it whit a a and we often do that (at least in västerås)
If you say it more properly it´s actually "att heta" as it is written. a t t "å heta" - Swedes often use the pronunciation of å instead of for example och (and) och att (to do sth) .
Often it was a strange pronunciation, not yours but in the app. You were actually quite good but of course for loud sounds, Swedish is a softer language.
The ”most unreliable source” as you called the pronouncer without a face or whatever is basically more of an “accent-free” type of saying it and me being a Swedish speaker is the most accurate of these but the app was kinda shit when it comes to Swedish, also I feel like the only one you really didn’t get at all right was the word “geni” you put in a “h” sound out of nowhere but it’s more of a “sje”
I would love too! It’s actually not as close to Spanish as I had initially imagined, and I know this because I had given it a shot a few months ago! 😆 here’s a link! ruclips.net/video/BBYGsZ11Rvc/видео.html

A and nae can be yes and no too, but it's not what was written. Bad on the app's part. Yes, German has a lot of similar words to Swedish, more than English. And the way you say god morgon is correct but unnatural, written and spoken Swedish are very different. Haha, you're saying heni instead of geni. The g is a hard sound in this case, have no idea how to write it but I'm surprised you didn't even try to imitate it.

They talk with dialects and not the proper way to learn the language.
I've never heard that the swedish word 'sju' is the word we always try non swedes to say, you should try 'sjuksköterska' instead 😉 meaning nurse.
Keep up the good work, love your videos 👌🏻🤩
Not bad acctualy.. From a swedish follower.. 👍🏻
Hiii please help me to know swedish private if your are swedish I really need help because I will come and it's difficult thank you,,,
If you want to do another video sometime, I would be happy to help you as a native Swede :) That app was a solid 4 out of 10 and you have way more potential
The other voice yoi think sounds weird. Well it speaks: Riks svenska It's kinda all accents. I think she says things better like whit "nej" She says it whit a a and we often do that (at least in västerås)
Easy i live in sweden is really easy
Hahaha, I wonder if that means you were also born in Sweden. 🤪 there has to be a reason for it being so easy for you! 😉
Welcome to Sweden!
Muchos thank yous :)
6:34 you said "å" super good imma give you a thumbs up (: 👍
Good is not always bra. It can also be god/gott and fin/fint (similar to English) among others.
As a Swede, this is awesome. A very good start, but that app is not very good at pronouncing the words.
Skål is only used for drinking
Or when referring to an actual skål/bowl.
M4X yeah that too 😅
I'm Swedish and this is hilarious hahahah
Glad you found my attempt pitiful 🤣
@@BrianVelez haha. Also please don’t quit, you’re amazing :D
@@8luck just switching and upgrading the material. 😄 thanks my friend.
I'am from sweden
Can you tell me. What is the name of this application?
It’s called Memrise :) it’s really useful!
It sounds like you are putting a T at the end of varsågod
I felt that too! It’s hard to keep my tongue from letting that T go!
If you say it more properly it´s actually "att heta" as it is written. a t t "å heta" - Swedes often use the pronunciation of å instead of for example och (and) och att (to do sth) .
you can say it in diffrent ways
This is also true for most languages 😆
Often it was a strange pronunciation, not yours but in the app. You were actually quite good but of course for loud sounds, Swedish is a softer language.
Glad to hear that! That makes sense. I appreciate the feedback 😄
Yea atleast from all i have seen u are the one who can say the words the closest
I am swedish btw
Thank you! Probably one of the ultimate compliments 😆
Hur är läget actually means "how is state-the", literally speaking.
Although it can be the same word, it has nothing to do with location.
the app vocalize in a dialect so it is hard for non natives to hear.
That’s extremely true! It’s hard to lose the accents.
7:13 GAGAAGAGAGAHAAHAA
Bro some of the words you pronounce is accurate af
#winning 😃
You don't knok how hard is swedish
Clearly haha 😅
I love my åäö's 👌
Hahaha. 🙈
I'm from sweden! xD Hejdå!
Hey! Thanks for visiting 😆 🇸🇪
What app its I want try
It’s called Memrise! It’s pretty good 😄 but I’m also very found of Mondly.
Bro, you should learn Romanian. If you know Italian, Spanish or Catalan it's going to be easy......
I would love too! It’s actually not as close to Spanish as I had initially imagined, and I know this because I had given it a shot a few months ago! 😆 here’s a link!
ruclips.net/video/BBYGsZ11Rvc/видео.html
@@BrianVelez well Spanish has 20% "degree of differentiation from Latin" while Romanian has 23.5%, and French has 44%.....Romanian has slavic influences, that's why it feels different.
Btw I saw that video, you did pretty great !
You did well except the u sounds like o.
2:35 What!? That was your best one after hej. XD
3:50 Yeah you're right, she was saying another version of the words.
