  • It's been quite a while since Bristol Shipwrights have released a new video, but here's one you haven't seen before. Ken and Lou continue hanging the second layer of planking. See how we've minimized fitting, including backing out planks. From there, we'll take a look at hanging the plank before gluing. We'll finish up with using epoxy and thickened epoxy as well as temporary deck screws to fasten the plank in place.
There are more new videos on the way. We're scheduled to put up a new video on the first Friday of every month starting today.

I’ve seen a number of ways to plank a boat. This one takes the cake hands down! Your clamping method is ingenious and the fact that you don’t have to mess with bevels is magnificent. I really like your blend of tradition and new technology. She’s gonna be a beauty.

The craftsmanship displayed in this build is extraordinary. Fitting that plank as precisely as it was is an amazing feat of woodworking excellence. Thanks for sharing your knowledge, very much appreciated.

That's a great episode Lou. I love the length of that video mate. 30mins seams to be just right for a good Louis fix

The care taken on that one piece is amazing Louis, it's never going to shift out of there. The curves of the hull look so nice a beautiful work of art. Thank you.

Great to see Ken and Lou! Lou, I’m just putting a coat of penetrating epoxy on my skiff’s seat tops, but as I’m still a rookie in training, I am wearing big box store clammy gloves…

My friend showed me how to fix triple diagonal planking… you drop it on the hard on a falling tide and apply petrol and matches.

Dang, YT? Not getting me my notifications on another channel, I see. I'm a few videos behind, but looks like a good day to catch up.
Great video, Lou. I'm hoping this method holds up to many years of use out on the water. I'm sure it will. I guess with all this epoxy, there won't be any cotton caulking/corking? Does this method allow for expansion/contraction of the layers of the wood enough over the years?
Just wondering if it gets drydocked if it will hurt the boat. Thanks for any reply. Also, with so much epoxy, what will repairs look like in the future? Thanks again.

Then why do you wipe your hands at the end? I suppose it's because it was warm, hence in order to dry them, but it looked a bit funny after what you just told about keeping them clean all the time. :D
