    Got this exact one as my “second” ever guitar (first one was just hanging in the closet for years) for 800$, near-perfect shape no less. So I’d like to add something myself. Mini-humbuckers are wonder-pickups, they have single-coil like clarity and mid-high accent, yet they’re powerful almost like humbuckers (about 90% of its bigger brother). Also in reality guitar doesn’t look bland at all, due to it not being lacquered it has deep tactual grain, with black vessels deeper in the grain

      i remember it being very similar to the tribute one i had, the mini humbuckers were good, different but good

    Got it in 2018 and playing it since then now, but i always feel a certain uncomfort in the playing, maybe in the neck i don't know... Maybe for the 24 frets neck? I was thinking about switching this with a sg special 2011 with humbuckers... What do you think?

    • @MADMALKO
      @MADMALKO  8 месяцев назад

      on a normal 22 fret sg theres a wee bit of plastic stuck between the end of the neck and the pickup - all sgs should have the 24 fret neck - iommi was right!

    Sounds great. What's the difference in sound between mini humbuckers and P90s? Are P90s brighter?

    • @MADMALKO
      @MADMALKO  3 года назад +3

      different kettle of fish - mini humbuckers have their own thing going on.p90s for me have a bite and snarl that you just dont get with buckers.

      @@MADMALKO hello sir! Nice video that made purchase my own. I notice the mini hum have 4 conductors, do you know if they're splittable?

      @@karlsberg2715 i think they are yes ...at least its electrically possible ..may not sound fantastic though .. why not try earthing the tap wires temporary to see if it sounds good before fitting switches /push pots permanently?

      @@MADMALKO it may be a good idea but they're still mounted on the stock PCB, so i was considering to replace it with the Jimmy Page gibson PCB to allow 21 positions ^^ Well it's 200$ so maybe not the best idea if the coils are not really adapted..

    I have a fondness for the 70's Les Paul Deluxe with the mini HB's... SOME of them , anyway, that I've picked up. A few have been mud monsters, so I'm not sure if something affects those pickups over time, stage sweat corrosion or something... dunno.
    Adrian Smith made a lovely sound out of 'em anyway.
    High-output humbuckers, clean, usually sound like dogshit. Invaders clean is the WORST!
    But lower output humbuckers, more jazz-oriented... oh man, they are SO SO sweet and golden, actually some of the BEST cleans in the business. And not just in Jazz. Blue Cheer had a perfect clean tone, for a tonal example.
    I tried one of those SG's like that one there. To be honest, it barely made an impression. It was OK. Overpriced, as per the norm... A LOT of premium for 4cm of silkscreen.
    Hope you are well Malko - best regards from the Sassenach!

    • @MADMALKO
      @MADMALKO  3 года назад

      yeah the cleans on this are WAAAY better than on my bucker sg, i think i was using too much gain in the vid though - these pickups "bottom out" really quickly when you pile on the gain but break up real easy with just a slight amount.tbh i dont even look at guitars like this due to the price a LOT better than the current epiphone version (but i really didnt rate the epiphone at all - my old 1996 one is far better)

    Will P90s fit into those pickup rings?

    • @MADMALKO
      @MADMALKO  Год назад

      yes! .. well not in the rings, p90s would fit in the hole instead the rings.apparently originally in the 50s gibson bought epiphone and got loads of the mini buckers and they made the rings so they would fit in guitars routed for p90s
