The GR sport here in the Netherlands has almost all of the options a standard, Thats why you pay around 35000 euros for it if bought new. So its weird to me that the UK cars are so low option. I have the Executive Model and it has wireless charger, heated leather sport seats, Blindspot in mirrors, HUD, Heated steering wheel, JBL speakers, Glass roof, Keyless entry(is standard)

Both cars has their + and -, but they aren’t direct comparison because the Yaris it’s bigger.
Toyota hybrids are super cool cars and can be also very fun to drive . Again you can not compare manual turbo to hsd car. There are 3 things that Yaris beats anything else, efficiency, drivability, reliability. Up it’s ok , but honestly it’s a hot small hatch from yesterday, Yaris it’s from today and Honda E it’s from tomorrow.

First time of watching your YTC Tish and I'm impressed. Came here as I'm looking at the Yaris GR Sport as my 1st ever Motability car.
Factors that drove me to the Yaris were my mistrust of full e-cars as yet. Thus targeting hybrid motors as in Motability terms they are very low cost options. This for example is ONLY £495 user contribution.
So now to the actual reason & purpose of your comparison video. Like pretty most other Commentors I too feel Up and Yaris are Apple and Pear by comparison.
That's both in vehicle as they are, market they're targeting and hence actual final vehicle they've become.
Yaris is good [not awesome] quality and value "sporty" highest end of base hybrid Yaris platform.
Up is great [more specialist] sporty offering of the city'esque "hot hatch". The later giving you, as you confirmed, manual turbo'd quicker offering that sacrifices economy as a result.
So like you I would conclude in a perfect world where budget allowed such an option it would be Yaris from 5am Mon to 3pm Fri. That leaves Up to take over the weekend "Fun Zone" from 3pm Fri to 1am Mon [on those occasions when you were having a truly cracking 2-day break]
Returning to reality with a limited budget meaning a choice had to be made then the answer for me is down to individual personal preference.
Even not taking into account my own Motability situ my standalone choice would be Yaris.
That's because I occupy the "Northern Value Seeker" demographic. Thus cost, reliability and sensibility would always triumph over fun, frivolity and sportiness.
Well put together video though Tish which has earned you my Subscription, commented reaction and very definite "Thumbs Up".
Like the positive healthy growth of women's football I encourage and applaud the greater and growing proportion of young female content presenters & creators like this from your good self.
Awesome job, keep it coming and just continue to push and drive yourself and your content going forward. 👍🏻

I see most Yaris GR Sports have a hybrid system, but in some other European countries, there’s a non-hybrid 1.5-litre engine with around 120hp and a 6MT. Interestingly, you can get that powertrain in Ireland, but not in the UK.
Such a shame we don’t get that powertrain here in the UK.

I think you can still get the GR Yaris in the UK, they’ve just taken them off the website as they have none left. They were made for the soul purpose of:
To allow for the Yaris to be a rally car, if needed the same car to be a road car too. So, they built a few thousand odd, shipped em off and now they don’t need to make any more. You’re best off looking for second hand ones (which will be easy since they cost a bomb to run, I know two friends that already sold theirs as it was over £400 a month on tires, fuel, etc for track days, it’s hard for it to be a daily driver) and getting a good deal on a used one. Not sure if we will see any new production ones for a couple years now

You went for the right car for you, a manual turbo fun car. Need to point out choosing a manual over the the auto is a personal choice, so saying nothing beats a turbo manual is not accurate.
The mk4 yaris is personally the best small mainstream car i ever own, have had audi a1 & fiesta etc. Its a fantastic car, excellent handling around twisty, top reliability, and no small car of automatic can beat the fuel economy. So some of my statement is a personal choice, some are facts.

if you stop suddenly then items placed on the dash storage area will not travel backward as you have show. It is sudden the acceleration that will make them do that and which you don't have to worry about in a 120 bhp hybrid.

Another great video Tish although as you mention it might not be fair to compare the UP directly with the Yaris. These are two different target markets after all. The UP will be more fun but the Yaris is probably the better every day car to live with. I noticed your outfit was matching the Yaris that was a nice touch for the video and editing has improved a lot since the early days of the channel. As much as I could live with the Yaris day to day my heart would yearn the UP GTi so in summary you bought the car that was for you. You're only young once so enjoy the fun. Many thanks for sharing.

Not comparable really. One is a GTI and is designed to be a drivers car. A warm hatch certainly but light and agile. The Yaris GR Sport is a Yaris with sporty trim. What Toyota should of done is dropped a different engine in it or at least tuned and lightened. Like they did with the supercharged Yaris they charged too much for and released in stupidity low numbers to compete with the Fiesta ST and Corsa VXR

Quite an unusual comparison here to be honest, the gr Yaris is a hybrid whereas the UP GTI is a petrol and it’s a GTI lol? Comparing a hybrid to a GTI petrol is the first mistake. 2nd of all why are you driving it in B mode? That’s for downhill braking, and it also looks like you’ve not put it in PWR mode where it is more faster.

I do mentioned at the end that there isn’t really any comparison, the Yaris isn’t trying to be a GTi. I think my point was; when I needed a new daily, they both ticked a lot of the same boxes ☺️ Also, I did drive it not in B mode and in sport, just not in the POV clip that I used.

Bundles and bundles of character. The Yaris is so meh. An actual gr? Yes. But it’s a Yaris in name only. And that price of the gr sport - what? Stick with the up. @@AutoSocialUK I have a 2020 up gti 5dr which replaced a mk7 gti as I decided to downsize at the start of the pandemic. Yes there are certainly aspects of the golf I miss but there are others i definitely don’t, like insurance and fuel. The up nearly halves what I used to pay on those two fronts. Plus I took a fair hit on resale. Most of my driving is urban so the up is perfect for that but have done quite a few longer journeys and it’s always a pleasure. It’s nearly paid off now and has probably lost at most £500 in value from buying new which is ridiculous. Find me another car which holds it value like that. For me, right now, it’s a keeper as just love it’s cheeky chappy ways. Glad you like yours so much and would think very carefully before trading it in. I noticed some commenters suggesting the polo gti. Absolutely Toyota vs VAG group VW, that’s not a game.. mostly Japan cars win of every country car engines that makes on the world … but I like Japan cars also as taste, and taste I never can fill in for someone else.. I love Alfa Romeo as taste, the looks 100% but that engine and electric is one of the most shit car there is ever made (beautiful Italian crap) ….

I’d have the up gti every time way more fun and personality and that interior on the Yaris looks so dull, dated and cheap

Agree, you can’t beat the Jacara seats on the Up! Just wish I had a proper screen!

    Bizarre comparison.
I drive a GR4 GR Yaris in the uk. I actually went for the more useful/daily standard set up, but with the Convenience pack/luxury in Europe.
It's a one car does all, daily that won't be used on a track, where the circuit pack is preferable.
The UP GTI is a drivers car, like the GR Yaris.
The normal yaris is arguably a reasonable car in its field, the GR Sport spec, as is now available in many toyota models, is simply a marketing ploy badging term.
Initially started, I believe, by audi with the S line. It's become a line or design and now Sport worded add on which simply adds a few changes to suspension, wheels and PRICE!
Whilst owning my previous i30N performance pack I saw the N-Line in the showroom. Was priced on par with a fiesta st, not the line model. I know which one I'd have chosen!
If I had issues of insecurity, it would be disastrous, 😮‍💨😉. However, I'm not a brand snob and therefore don't care 🙂

I do mentioned that there isn’t really a comparison here, it was more about when I was recently buying a new car, these two ultimately ticked a lot of the same boxes. ☺️ ultimately, I picked the fun car with the heritage…. But there are days when I see those miles go up and up, as I’m covered tons of miles a day and I think… should I have just got a Yaris?
But ultimately, if I had, I would have just got for the cheapest option. As for me, it just would have been an A-B car whereas me and and the up are a team!

Isn’t a fun car? Don’t drive it in “B” then. Rookie mistake. Put it in Drive “D”. “B” is for downhill braking recharges the battery. Better yet, take it out of eco mode and put it in Power. It takes more than 10 minutes to “understand” it. It does have keyless entry and keyless start so you’re wrong there anyway.

When I use my POV clips, that doesn’t mean that’s how I drive it. I did try it out of B and in power; it’s ok but let’s face it, it’s no performance oriented model.
