My my garage door opener stopped working. I was prepared to disassemble the unit to repair it, as it turned out the problem was the LED bulb. Changing the bulb save me a lot of work and frustration. Thank you😊
When my garage remote stopped working, I called the company and they wanted to charge me $189.00 to send a technician to bring me a new remote and program it for me. Found your site and this wonderful video. My setup is exactly like yours, so I followed your instructions and voila, it worked perfectly! Thank you so much for posting this to help those who are not the best DIYers around, and saving me all that dough!
Bob Antunes That’s great news, Bob! I’m glad I was able to help save you money. It’s crazy they would charge that much. I think $89 would be much more reasonable. Be sure to subscribe. I do my best to make easy to follow, practical videos.
But Bob, why wouldn’t you just call the ‘guy!’ Just kidding! I had the start capacitor go out on mine and found a replacement for $8 bucks. Relatively easy install, but you do have to discharge the old one before removal. I put the info on Nextdoor and I was berated for doing something so dangerous and I should have just called ‘The Guy.’
Ahhhhh!!! Yes....I had an led bulb in mine. It wouldn't even light up so I just thought something was wrong with the socket or the opener. Later the remotes stopped working. Was about to buy a new opener! Found your video and replaced the led bulb with a standard 60w and WAALAA!! ...the remote works and the bulb works!! Never would have thought! You are my hero! Thank you!!
This video just saved me $300 for a new garage opener. My garage door opener is working but most of the time is having issue. As stated at the end of this video, led bulbs can interfere with the signal. This turned out true. I switch the bulbs and the garage can be open and close every time. Great video!! Thanks!!
Wow I've been sprinting out of my garage for 3 months thinking the remotes were broken....60secs and both remotes are working now. Thanks a bunch for this video!❤❤
Brilliant. The LED Bulb interference comment at the end was the game winner for me. I would have never made that connection and would have been baffled why the door was so intermittently responsive. Big Kudos to you for your very helpful video!!!
No shit, I've been Dickin around for months trying to find out why my doors remote would work then not work. Took the led out and just saved my ass 600 bucks.
Awesome video! Since I met my girl I couldn't figure out why her garage door opener would not work after the button was pushed once. LED bulb was the culprit! Thanks for posting this! Straight to the point. Love it!
Thank you so much for this video. You don’t know how much you have saved my grandma from spending money on a technician to come fix her garage door. Bless your heart.
I was pulling my hair out trying to figure out why my remotes weren’t working. I was pressing the Learning button constantly but nothing. This video was the first to mention the light bulb. Once I removed the lightbulb in mine, it was able to sync with my remote. Thanks very much!
This is a great video, helped fix my garage door closing issue with remote after changing light bulb for the motor. I watched close to a dozen other videos and read blogs to understand what the issue is with garage motor and remote. The issue turns out related to using a LED bulb for motor which conflict with remotes signal, replacing LED with regular bulb resolved the issue. Thanks @TighWadDIY for publishing this awesome video, it saved $ for me to fix the issue.
My garage door remote had been working intermittently, then stopped altogether today. Came upon this video, then recalled I recently had installed LED bulbs. ?Replaced them with regular bulbs, and remote is working again. Who knew? Not me lol. Thanx for the tip! P.S. -- will like and save this, as your opener and remotes happen to be the same as mine!
Ha-thank you! Plenty easy to program remote, BUT you were the one who solved my mystery. One door worked fine, but I could not get my other door back online even after re-programming two remotes that I've used for years. The culprit was the LED light bulb I put in about a week ago! Took it out and the remote worked fine. Thank you!
Thank you so much! The instructions on the garage door opener are wrong and say to hold both buttons and then release at the same time, which was not working!!! You saved my sanity!! Appreciate it!
Omg, you saved me!!! I've been trying to get this repaired for weeks. This was definitely my problem. Thank you for sharing this video. You are the BEST!
Thanks so much for this video. What a lifesaver! I replaced the light bulb on my garage door opener and all my remote controls stopped working. I’ve been troubleshooting for days and can’t figure out what the issue was. Had the opener for over 15 years and searched websites and thought the remote control board is old and bad. The last portion of your video remind me that my new light bulb is a LED one. Replaced it with a stander light bulb and Bing, every thing back to normal and working fine now. I’d never ever thought a LED will give me so much trouble. Thanks again

You are a genius. Thank you so much for this video! We could not understand why all of our garage door openers spontaneously stopped working. One would intermittently work... yep we changed to an LED light. Just purchased the Genie bulb. Thank you so much!

So just how important is it to close the garage door first? I tried for hours a month ago to make my HomeLink work in a newly purchased car. Nothing worked. I ended up de-programing the remote transmitter that came with the opener. Now I couldn't use HomeLink OR the remote. I tried again tonight after watching your video (first programing the remote and then following HomeLink instructions to program from the car's button). Both worked on the first try. The only difference is that you are the first to say to close the door first. Thanks. My wife will be especially grateful to not get any more calls 2 minutes before I pull up asking for someone to open my garage door. First World Problem Solved!!

@@TightWadDIY and Fyi - the led bulb causing the issue was not the bulb in the machine, it was the bulb in the garage which was only a few inches away.
Thanks buddy.. the only video that help me with my remotes. The only other thing. To set the second remote. I had to wait till the light went out automatically., than programmed the second remote...
Great video @TightWadDIY on an unrelated note, You really should take that red handle off of your Manual release rope. A burglar can have that door open in 3 seconds with a slim hook thru the top of the door. Pass this on to your friends and family.
Great video ! I have a very old opener remote and sometimes I have to wriggle the battery to ensure contact on both ends. Not ideal but this may get you in 👍🏼 good luck
Well. Changes the light bulb. It opens but won’t close nothing wrong with it. Geez. Oh lord. Big Typo!! The issue I had was the sensors were not communicating. The door would come up but not down. Common sense after thinking, and cleaning sensors solved the problem. Thank you!
Tried buying new remotes, extending antennae, turning off wi fi, and changing light bulbs, no leds, nothing worked to fix remotes not working. Noticed a melt spot on plastic near the light bulb area. Put in very low watt bulb from the fridge and BINGO, now all remotes work like a charm. Hope this helps someone!!😄😅
1:41 - I get to this exact step, fresh battery in remote.. and nothing happens. Nothing. No bulb comes on. No click. Nothing. And I have the exact same remote and opener. I'm at a loss.
I just can't believe it. My Craftsman garage door remotes and outside key pad started giving me fits 4 days ago, as it would work sometimes, and not work other times. I changed all the batteries and still no success. The same remotes did work on my other garage door on the out garage. Then I watched your video and guess what I did 4 days ago that triggered my problem..., l changed the burned out light bulb on the opener with an LED light bulb. CASE Closed and thank you so much for your tip on LED bulbs interfering with the remote frequency. Really appreciate you help!!!!!!!
@@TightWadDIY Thank you again. When I changed the bulb and started having remote problem, my wife ask me if I hit or touched any of the adjustment knobs and mess something up. I told her I couldn't have touch any because the light is on the front of the unit all by itself. The back of the opener has all the adjustments and I didn't come close to any of them. LOL, Unbelievable!
Unfortunately no it didn't and I replaced the battery in the clicker first. So I'm assuming it just died so I ordered a replacement. If the new one doesn't pair then I'll be searching for more trouble shooting videos. It just stopped working 🤔
I only had one remote that came with the house. And it just stopped one day. I changed the battery and it still didn't work. The new one should be coming today and I'll see if it can pair.
@@elizabetht1323 I actually recommend clearing all codes when you move into a home just in case the previous owner still has remotes or Homelink devices set up to open the doors. This is typically done by holding the learn button for 10-15 seconds.
You got me thinking about this. I have a few brands of CFLs and LEDs. If I take a portable AM radio next to them, some generate a lot of broadband RF noise and others are very quiet. I believe that the offenders don't have good filtering on their inverters and you can hear the distinctive square waves which generate many odd harmonics. The same problem exists with some solid state fluorescent light ballasts (I have in my garage.) The problem can also occur with some usb power supplies. I have an amplified TV antenna whose power supply blocked out all AM radio reception until I changed the power supply. It's strange that GDOs have their antenna hanging down blocked by a metal garage door which can be a problem from the outside.

nice tip about interference! Solved my problem
Great! I’m glad that got you fixed up!
Thanks !!! Did not know about the LED bulb factor.
Yes it’s so odd but definitely causes issues.
@@TightWadDIY and Fyi - the led bulb causing the issue was not the bulb in the machine, it was the bulb in the garage which was only a few inches away.
Thank you! This helped me and my family. 🙂
My pleasure! I’m glad it helped you out.
Awesome video saved me some money thank you
Great! I’m glad it worked for you too!
Thank you so much for this. It was soooooooo easy. Happy new year!!
It’s definitely a quick and easy fix once you know the process. Happy New Year to you too!
Thanks buddy.. the only video that help me with my remotes. The only other thing. To set the second remote. I had to wait till the light went out automatically., than programmed the second remote...
I was following the instructions that was on the motor and it wasn't syncing, this video save me.
Great! Im glad it worked for you too!
Great video @TightWadDIY
on an unrelated note, You really should take that red handle off of your Manual release rope. A burglar can have that door open in 3 seconds with a slim hook thru the top of the door. Pass this on to your friends and family.
Frankie Oliver I’ve never even considered that but it makes sense.
@@TightWadDIY .
Great video !
I have a very old opener remote and sometimes I have to wriggle the battery to ensure contact on both ends. Not ideal but this may get you in 👍🏼 good luck
You can get a new one for cheap!
Well. Changes the light bulb. It opens but won’t close nothing wrong with it. Geez. Oh lord. Big Typo!! The issue I had was the sensors were not communicating. The door would come up but not down. Common sense after thinking, and cleaning sensors solved the problem. Thank you!
I’m not sure what your comment means. Is there a typo?
Instant fix. Thank you so much.
That’s great!
Wow! That’s crazy! I’m glad you figured it out!
@@TightWadDIY thanks. I was ready to buy a whole new system. So frustrating.
1:41 - I get to this exact step, fresh battery in remote.. and nothing happens.
Nothing. No bulb comes on. No click.
Nothing.
And I have the exact same remote and opener. I'm at a loss.
Do you have another remote you can try? Perhaps the remote went bad.
@@TightWadDIY Same for the other remote. Fresh battery in that one too. Do remotes go bad? Unit is over 15 years old.
Thank you! Very helpful.
My pleasure.
Thank you. You were better than the instructions on the unit itself!
Coy McDaniel That is a great compliment. Thank you.
My garage door opener is too sensitive, I don't have to press the button only a nudge will open the door, how can I fix that?
Thank you for the tips.
My pleasure.
I’m glad you found the video! It’s a really odd issue that takes a while to figure out. Genie does make a LED bulb that doesn’t interfere.
@@hankgavarkavich1599 I’m sure she wasn’t happy with you for “breaking it”! All is well and now you can be the hero!
I'm gonna try this tomorrow!
Great! Let us know how it goes! You’ve got this👊🏼!
Worked on my liftmaster!
That’s great!
Thank you. It worked!!
You're welcome!
Wow, an LED light bulb was my problem, thanks!!! 🙂
Great! I know how frustrating that is.
Thanks for the help.
You’re welcome!
You’re welcome!
Your the only one who said the door has to be closed. Now I'll try this again.. lol.. hopefully that was my issue
Hopefully this gets your fixed up! Let me know if it doesn’t work!
Unfortunately no it didn't and I replaced the battery in the clicker first. So I'm assuming it just died so I ordered a replacement. If the new one doesn't pair then I'll be searching for more trouble shooting videos. It just stopped working 🤔
@@elizabetht1323 so none of your remotes work now?
