There was a time when Tito was getting as many cheers as any star in WWF. People forget that. He was selling a TON of merch.
Yeah that was a great 30 minutes...
round the 84-85 period.
@@paulmacnamara7648 30 more minutes than you've had 🤣
A cup of coffee in the big time
Tito in 92 was considered for a run as WWF champion it was between him and Bret Vince thought having Tito as WWF champ wound open up a whole new fanbase in Mexico
Glad Tito says figures instead of Doll!
Manchild
You collect doll's pal? 😂
Action Figures!
Moron
I loved that LJN Tito figure! I got it in Christmas of '86 along with Randy Savage. That was an awesome Christmas!
What’s sad is I had a Tito figure. Loved it. I’m sad to hear he didn’t make much money off them. My first two were obviously Hogan and Piper. Next I bought two tag team sets because I lost Hogan’s belt, and the tag sets had them. I got Tito and JYD, and Sheik and Nikolai. I used the 4 belts as the tag, IC, and World. Man, great memories, I just wish Tito got more money for making my childhood great. Especially with Mexican representation, which as a small Mexican child, I saw him as a hero!
I had a Tito figure as a kid and he was easily my favorite to tag team with. I'd team him up with Savage or Texas Tornado and they'd fight Demolition or Hulk and Warrior. If I remember correctly he never lost a match and even won the first Royal Rumble held on my bedroom floor with all my action figures. That's saying something cause aside from the heavy hitters like Andre and Hulk he also beat out Donatello and He-Man.
"Representation" how does it feel being a narcissist.
@@jabrockobiden9434 LMAO… considering the only other Mexican on TV back then was Cheech… I think I should ask you how it feels to be such a snow flake that too would put down a young boy’s experience to make yourself feel better. 😂🤣😂
I had a Tito Santana and George the Animal Steele rubber action figures. Tito figure was lighter weight and would pin Steele most of the time
@@jabrockobiden9434 LMAO… just saw this.
Liking the ONE Mexican guy on TV is narcissistic is a WILD claim.
Tito is a Legend!!
Vince screws his talents, and in other news water is wet.
But most don't get $3,000,000 afterwards.
@@consequences 😅😅
Vince didn't become a billionaire by treating his workers fairly.
Just like Dana
Truth
Lame. While the wrestlers were busy putting drugs in their noses Vince was building an empire. But indont expect low rung bottom tier shelve stockers to understand the sacrifice, lack of sleep and dedication it takes to build the largest wrestling organization in the world
Greg Valentine on his interview said he was well paid on merchandising.
But Greg was a Vince boy that's the difference
@@petesmart1983 Listen to the interview. Guys got paid $100k from the first batch of figures but Santana wasn't part of that. It had nothing to do with being "a Vince boy".
Mr McMahon is a racist piece of shit
@@timthegem You might be a Vince boy
@@petesmart1983 Valentine was more of a George Scott guy
He got cheated! Every child wanted them Big action figures. I am 44 years old. I still have them
I remember meeting him at oakcrest camp
And I had the same figure the arm use to spring back to punch
I love Tito and he is a Class Act. However he never came close in outselling any of WWF top guys in the 80s. Either way much respect.
How do you know? Were you an accountant working for the WWF in the 80s?
@@jorndoff2002 Cmon man, Tito had a few pieces of merch and was popular, but more than Hogan, Warrior or Demolition is just not true brother.
You know Tito was massively over with fans Vince was going to put the WWF title on him in 92 but put on Bret Hart instead
He was a below average wrestler, Mid carder
LooseCan88, When I was a kid in L.A and we would go to the matches many Babyfaces were booed and the Bad Guys cheered but Tito was over . I mean he came out and crowd went nuts and I realize know that Tito was like WCW, Arn Anderson , A great worker that people respected as he gave his all. Was Tito as over as Hogan no but Tito was very popular I remember buying his Action Figure.
Speaking of shafts Tony Schiavone spoke highly of Tito's
Sad to hear how the men who made the WWF/ WWE a house hold name got screwed 😢 over!
Hogan made the WWF a household name
@@chadk890 he did it all by himself, so he wrestled himself in all his matches. 🙄
Tito Santana is a legend. I am a gringo. And he was my favorite wrestler way back in the day. Not Hogan
Tito was my favorite wrestler in the 80's for a very simple reason, he looked like a real wrestler who wears normal wrestling gear and was capable of having great matches with anyone. He didn't look like a cartoon character or had a stupid sound name (until he become El Metador).
I think Tito's hasbro figure came out after he'd left the federation.
Don’t forget Tito had 2 figures. Singles purple tights and strike force white tights.
I got the Tito and JYD figures for Christmas that year!!
i have a feeling that the ones that didn't demand or ask for merch royalties are the ones that didnt get shit, you had to be vocal alot back then or you was shafted
Hasbro was so cheap, that they used the same action figure mold for El Matador that they had used for the Jake "The Snake" Roberts character. 😆
Wrestlers Need To Unionize.
Chico the man got you
Jesse approved message
The McMahon’s must be Jewish I swear
Because of suspicious business practice and greediness ? Jews ain't nothing compared to chinese ! Trust me on this .
Was Tito ever even in a WWF/WWE video game? Crazy that he's not one of the regular legends that pops up.
I know exactly how Tito feels... I begged him for a couple years before he agreed to work an independent show in my hometown and I knew he would Bank it big! By his own admission he made $2,300 on merch that night.... He gifted me a six pack of MGD!! 🤔 At .025 % my Royalty should have been $57.50! 😁🍺 I'm. still thirsty for a case and a half! 🤙🤠💯
How do you suppose he became a $$ BILLIONAIRE. Shafting.
Other great talent also complained. To some he 'still owes'.
Scott Hall gave the same percentage for royalties.
el matador tito hasbro figure was the best to play with as a kid ....you could do anything with him ....unlike ric flair / rick rude figures with the one arm as a flex pose and the other arm doing a small punch .....lol
I always wondered why El Matador’s Hasbro figure had a picture of Tito in his white trunks on the cardboard backing of the figure, maybe he was meant to be in the first batch with the white trunks.
Would you rather want an action figure of Tito, or Hogan, Savage, Warrior, Andre, Rowdy Piper, Jake the Snake, Million Dollar Man? Even Hillbilly Jim and Hacksaw got over with the kids more. There were just so many more colorful stars, with larger than life personalities back then.
I only got the Tito figure cause I needed filler for my Battle Royals back in the day. Hogan Warrior Millian Dollar Man Hacksaw Piper Perfect Demolition had more play time. I even made Jake The Snake champion for awhile. Tito's problem really was the El Manador character sucked as bad as berzerker character only difference is the berzerker character toy was just as cool as Hacksaw to the point where I made those two a tag team.
I also didn't play with the Rick Rude much cause the toy design sucked.
@@pugmalley interesting how we made our own tag teams based on something the figures had in common. Fun times. I never got a Tito, but did get others as fillers. Speaking of Demolition, loved those figures.
The Big Boss Man 1991/1992 and the Undertaker 1993 the only WWF figures I still own
Some of the figure designs really were dumb like the legs molded together so you couldnt do any moves properly with them. Also the wrestlers with the accessories such as The Undertaker with the hat makes it so unrealistic because he didnt wrestle wearing his hat, they could have at least made all the accessories removable like they did with The Big Boss Mans nightstick.
Damn 0.25% is nothing. Vince robbed them blind and they were too stupid to say or do anything about it. Shame Jessie never got his union going as the boys would have been in a much better financial position and some may even be alive today. Hogan has a lot to answer for.
the second batch of ljn dolls didnt sell nearly as much as the first . i was in grade school when first dolls came out when i came back from christmas vacation every kid in my class had them
In all fairness to Vince(who is a scumbag)I'm sure all this was in writing 0.25% and Tito signed it.Thats why you need a agent to negotiate contracts especially when your dealing with a large corporation like the WWF now known as WWE.
Tito is not the only wrestler who was screwed on merchandise.Vince is very ruthless and obviously had his favorites.Yes Tito was extremely over and should have been paid much more.
18k is no 100k but if he is referring to his LGN figure that came out around 1986, he got 18k and to put it in perspective the average adult income was around 16k a year. Still not bad.
Stunning defense of raycism and whyt supremacy. Brilliant
@@SaunKrystian too bad the Iron Shiek, Jimmy snuka, and junk yard dog were part of the first releases all getting the 100k. Tito said himself the mold for his action figure broke, he was supposed to be part of the first release. Dumbass.
Dolls.
Tito is a good vato, so at least he did get shafted by Vince the way the Warrior would! ✊🏽👈🏼
Tito..early 80s in a school gymnasium in McKeesport, Pa. Tito Santana was trying to lure my mother down in the dressing room. My mom being a beautiful Italian woman ..Tito was trying to talk the security guard in letting her inside. My mom God bless her heart was just trying to get her son a meet and greet) Tito tried luring her inside. I think the security guard wanted money BUT He told Tito..YOU KNOW BETTER!! That was that..I gave the middle finger to Hulk Hogan who was a heel at the time thru a crack in the door and lived with nightmares of him busting down the door and chasing me around the gymnasium!! When he saw my finger he gave me a dirty look and I ran away frightened. Gave me nightmares for years!!
I was 8 yrs old when this went down. God Bless Aunt Helen and Mom for taking me to the wrestling matches when WWF was so small of a company. Hulk Hogan was a bad guy so this was 79-1980!! Around that time!!!
I heard something a long time ago about how Vince did NOT know how much $$$ each wrestler got paid for that first round of figures........he found out AFTER those guys got paid THEN he slashed the royalty rates to .025% before fees and taxes.............
i never did figure out why tyhey nroke u pstyrike force when they did .... was martels injury legit that bad ?
Damn. I’m sure Tito isn’t the only one getting burned by Vince. Tito was even making 1% off of royalties. It was less then 1% that’s crazy shit. I’m sure there were and still are many others who make less them 1% off of royalties.
He was a big star in the WWE from (1983-1992)
He was part of the Rock "N" Wrestling Era, big Golden Era ...he was the first man Shawn Micheals faced at Wrestlemania 8...when Shawn started his singles career.
Tito Santana was huge within the Latino & Hispanic communities across America...every Hispanic kid in the 80's would say his catch phrase "Arriba!"
He is truly one of the greatest in ring technicians and wrestlers of his time ...truly a legend and a icon during the big boom period of pro wrestling.
A big star from 83-85. Fixed if for you.
Greg Valentine said that Vince handed him a check for $100k from merchandise sales. I think Vince paid whoever he felt like paying.
$18k at that time was a lot of cheddar
How did Hillbilly Jim make so much off his LJN upfront? I know there was a prototype Tito that was never released. Pictures of it or on the early cardbacks.
Seems people didn’t want the original Tito figure.
He was actually very popular when those figures came out, but Tito's didn't really look like him. It's funny he says they broke the mold because he actually had two versions. The first one the face didn't look right. Then he wasn't available in stores. When the second one came out, it was a little better, but the body was scrawny compared to other figures. He was chiseled, but too thin. I think that hurt sales of Tito's figures.
Thats what the wwe is a company that sells merch. Which happen to use wrestlers to promote their products.
Cheeko!
Seriously, feel bad how they screwed over many of the boys.
It is not his fault for some one mess up. On the first action figure came out.
Greg Valentina said he got 120 000 in one check from just figures in a year
He should drag their asses into court and sue them
I thought Ventura had to sue to get his royalties?
That was more for his commentary contributions.
@@billssportsandwrestlingchan Thanks.
yeah you were selling more shirts than Hogan course you were brother what drugs are you on this week i have purchased several dozen Hogan shirts you want to take a guess how many Tito Santana shirts i have bought
Tito is a Mathematics professor so at least he gets a solid pension for retirement.
Santana’s shirts never outsold hogan’s lol
18K not that much smh
1/4 of 1% was what they made for their merchandise? WTF is that bullshit? They should have been making way more.
Tito was never in a wwe video game until the 00s so he wouldn't get that lucrative video game money until after that
Did anybody besides Hogan get paid for the use of their character/likeness in the Rock 'N' Wrestling cartoon series?
That’s messed of WWE.
True, but Vince is renowned for his shady business practices when it comes to his wrestlers so it's hardly surprising.
WWF, not WWE
He didn't put a gun to their head and make them work for WWF. If they didn't like the $, they were free to leave
I dont even remember his action figure it took me 8 months to find the referee in stores
Tito's tshirts outsold Hogan's tshirts. Yea, I'm calling bullshit. Also, I don't remember any kids asking for LJN Tito Santana or El Matador figs for Xmas.
Hilarious🤣🤣🤣dont get me wrong I cant stand Hogan and never could but ffs seriously anything of Santanas outselling Hogans is lmfao🤣🤣
Why is that so weird? They tried to take all the top talent from America, so it really was a collection of superstars. All the top talent had t-shirts, heroes as well as villains. Tito has been a champion in multiple organizations and was a very popular IC champion and WWF Tag Team champion during a period where those titles meant something. I wouldn't be surprised if Piper, JYD, Steamboat, Superfly and Jake Roberts had periods where their t-shirts were outselling Hogan's.
Vince screwing a wrestler over money-surely you jest!
Get over it tito Vince is a business man what you expect
I've not heard this before. Quite the opposite. Not calling Tito a liar. It is curious though.
Hes greedy, just like greedy gretchen from threes company
Nobody wanted Tito’s merchandise period. I was at the shows and seen. His figure didn’t sell well. He wasn’t on the tv cartoon show so not as much appeal. His t shirt design was lame. Tito just can’t except no one wanted his stuff
Uh - he absolutely was on the TV cartoon show. Do some homework. His shirts also sold...I know because me and my friends had a few. They also made several incarnations of them. You think Vince is going to greenlight more styles if they weren't selling?
