    Did this in july! I got up in 7:45hrs and down in 5:00hrs but man it was rough.
    When we were on the summit, lightning struck in the clouds above us and a hail storm moved in too. We had to get down quickly and the rain and snow patches made things more slippery. I recommend not ignoring the forecast! I wanted to start earlier but the group decided on 3:30am. We were the last to summit because of the storm!

      Same happened yesterday. But I didn't plan to go up the the summit. Only to outpost camp to get a feel. Luckily when I was already down at camp the thunder showed up. All I caught was some rain on my way up and down. Incredible views and really challenging steep hike !

    I enjoyed this video very much. Nice. Myself, I have been up four times, under different circumstances, reasons, each time. One was in a day, before anybody seemed to care how fast you went...we sure did not. If we had, woulda stepped on the gas pedal! But, did do it all in eleven hours, actually seemed casual, back then...just tried to beat the sun in late October. Miss it. Am 61 now, nice to reflect...Nice Video!

      Really enjoyed the video as well. I’m somewhat older than you. Overcame a few health issues a while back and I’m now slowly beginning the conditioning it takes to enjoy my backyard in the incredible Sierras. I’ve missed it terribly. Would love to try one more time even if I don’t make all the way to the shack.

    Hi, you know I was this video just a couple weeks ago. I summited Mt. Whitney on 9.21.18 up and down same day. The hardest was along the Crest. That 1.9 miles is the longest hardest part of the trail. Had to boulder scramble most of the way not much established trail now? It was one day prior to full moon, so the night hiking was great. The morning sunrise shining on whitney was great also. Good video.

    Awesome hike. Thanks for sharing. Looks pretty cold! I’ve been up four times, always as a day hike, always in August or early September, but the last couple of times the number of people on the trail & at the top was insane! I think we passed over 100 people on the last one. Funny as hell when passing Trail Camp were the fat, very aggressive marmots getting into people’s stuff. 👍🏻😊🙄🤣

  • @Backcountryhiker
    @Backcountryhiker 2 года назад

    I did the trail in 2000 in one day, up from Whitney Portal and back down to Whitney Portal. Why I decided on doing the hike in one day is anyone's guess but if you're under a time restraint, that's the best reason, unless you just want to prove that you can do the hike in one day. Looking back, I did the one-day hike in 13 hours but I paid a price. The price was not taking the time to fully enjoy the beauty of the surrounding wilderness! If I had to do it over again, I would hike to Trail Camp, set up camp, top Whitney then come down to Trail Camp for the night. That way I would have time to enjoy the trip more. Or, spend the first night at Trail Camp, summit then spend another night in Trail Camp. Folks, having enough time to enjoy where you are is key. Have fun and look what God has made!

    It’d be a good challenge but compared to all the east hikes in glacier national park’s (they’re long at 10 miles average) but the views are amazing with wild flowers, waterfalls and pine trees everywhere we turn. Whitney is fame for its elevation and its challenging steepness but the lower oxygen levels and lack of plants kept me from trying to hike it all these years…maybe sometime in the near future. Now I’m eyeing cascade, or mount rainier this summer 😍
