The purpose of these videos is to break the notion that all electronic music has to be performed by DJs with a set of turtables or Ableton controllers. Personally, I like the risk involved with this kind of performance; as it makes the reward all the more great!
Gear I used:
Korg MicroKorg
Korg Electribe MX-1
Korg Kaoss Pad 3
Yamaha MG124C Mixer
NOTE: The only edits I made to this song in post-production were adding a bit of reverb and some level adjustments.
And now for a quick little bio for those of you who have read all this! My name is Ethan Dirks, and starting in late 2011 I started going by my performance name "Vox Atomic." I mostly produce electro, though I've been experimenting with a little dubstep lately. Recently, I've shifted my focus onto performing everything completely live(which is difficult but incredibly rewarding!) So stay tuned to this channel for a new song on a regular basis!
this is pure talent, id pay to see you over a dj any day
I would pay to see him play as well
Guetta is still wondering what happened
?
@@n0v1r4s, David Guetta basically just presses "play" when live, hardly doing any work.
@@Heidegaff ooh phahaha yeah true
I love how you're doing covers but it sounds like classic French house, it's amazing! Keep doing what you're doing!
Hey VoxAtomic!!! You did a fantastic job! So proud and know that you worked hard on this. Jet, my 6 year old, had to go to bed, but I assure you he will be watching this video a million times tomorrow. He studies every move and sound to a T. Keep them coming and I will keep sharing.
A hardware compressor is next on my gear list!
I often wonder if trying to "educate" people about the difference between "live performance" and DJing is even worth it. I've been doing it for 13 years and still people hear a kick drum so they call me a DJ. Well, I haven't given up yet!! KEEP GOING BROTHER!!
10 years later and I’m still watching this
Damn this is 9 years old, wonder how good this guy is now
Absolutely n awe of ur skill. Haven't seen anyone on youtube that inspired me this much... EVER!
Oh god, the inverted LFO at the beginning drove me crazy.
But this is awesome :D
I wish live music could be done like this
You've got so much talent, here's to your future in production :)
Yeah that part still bugs me! I was a real pleb back when I made this video and I didn't have a sidechain-compressor yet, so I tried to emulate the effect with an LFO.
You're part of the reason I bought a MicroKORG five years ago, and a Kaoss Pad last year. Keep rocking!
and why I got into playing live and buying expensive dudes like the Nord Stage
I saw this and was like "Hey its the 30th, OP delivers
i wish these electro artists like skrillex & deadmau5 & flux & stuff would do this at live shows instead of just djing it shows a lot more skill!! good job man!!
Wow just wow great job hope too see more in the future
your really good bro don't let no one tell you are bad keep it up man you honestly inspire me
Uhh, bro. You got my Sub. This is exactly the kind of video's I've been looking for.
Theltgel,
This is a simple sawtooth(maybe triangle)wave, with portomento/glide and vibrato applied... very simple, but you're correct, very cool and lots of fun to play with
Where did your professional griefers cover go?
***** I thought it was better than the original.
Might be 12 years late, but damn, this is awesome work.
Good work Bro.. love that you play it all live
Very Impressive! Keep up the good work :) Its a hard thing to do live, especially songs such as this. I'm still hiding behind the software producing and sound designing :P Maybe one day i'll have a go at what you do....
i was waiting for this, needless to say it was worth it. :D
Please Do More!!! At least give us a sign that you will be doing more! Thank You.

PRETTY WORDS!
This shit is fuckin amazing, AND ITS LIVE!!!!
Good shit man keep this up!!!
Sweet. Had the same gear setup for awhile(sadly, sold the MK to get a analog synth). One of my favorite sounds from these is to sample an emx synth line into the kp3, then slighty change the bpm on the kp3 so it pitches the sample a bit. Then play the original synth line at the same time as the sample, and you can get a big, complex tone. Anyway, really impressed and hope to see more soon
I would love to watch this live..
Amazing...
Well, being that RUclips's ContentID filter picked up on this cover, I must say, great job!
You're incredible, man!
He has a Kaoss Pad 3, an Electribe MX and a MicroKorg

Nice live cover. It did bug me that you hit the key too late at 0:21 because the LFO was then backwards, but that's just because I'm an asshole. :P

*takes t-shirt off*
good work !
That setup looks so expensive and confusing. Kudos to this guy and all live performers! This is crazy! All thse buttons, knobs, pads, etc. Jeeze. How do you do it?
sidechain makes everything sound epic
muy buena!!
Well, of course you don't need any Ableton controller if you have physical controllers Ableton is pretty useful when you don't.
That said that was a very good and tricky performance because you can't edit mistakes afterwards ;)
Peace
epic!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Nice performance man !
