I still have the original UB900 along with a 2 year old 820 (bought for its Dolby Vision capability). Both machines still work fine with both UHD and BD discs. That's not to say they've NEVER glitched, but when they do I just run a disc cleaner through them once or twice. Given the DVD and BD players I've had over the years I'm amazed at how long that B900 has lasted.

Do you have sufficient cooling in your AV Rack?
My UB9000 is on top of my rack with my centre speaker on the shelf below. I doesn't get hot or get heat fromany other AV component. .
Get the player on its own away from other heat sources.
I had a similar problem and sent my player back to where I got it from and they'd fixed it. I think it was a new lazer.
The spinning disc logo is the Java load screen and your player is getting stuck on it (likemi e did). Other disc's use different animation for this Java load screen. It can't be skipped as it is what powers the disc content of sorts. Most Bluray disc's have them too.
    I hope that helps.
    Trevor

I have a UB820 and it has been working with no issues. Have you considered the intermittent play as an overheating problem? All of your components are tightly packed into cabinet. Maybe measure temp and add fan if necessary or even remove player from cabinet and test with several movies. Good luck!

I bought the Panasonic DP UB450 a couple of months ago. It played all of my 4k except the original movie Twister. Suggestion…make sure you have the Blu-ray live feature disabled in your player’s settings. There is a possibility that encoding on disc is trying to connect to a server and it is getting hung up. Basically, studios want to spy on you and know what you are watching and try to send you new advertisements and whatnot.

@@na93prepreyep. This Blu-ray live setting has driven me crazy ever since the Blu-ray format was invented. I’m a long time home theater enthusiast and film collector, and Blu-ray live was designed so studios could feed you brand new trailers / advertisements when you put in your disc. The problem is that after a while, the studios stop maintaining the servers / sites that they connect to, and then it freezes your damn disc because it is trying to connect to a site that is no longer there.

The 4k player gets very hot. If you pause a 4k disc or let it sit repeating, the disc gets easily damaged and will begins skipping and freezing u, or it just won't play. And then some discs are just faulty. I have an earlier 4k of Halloween that has never played.Recently, the 4k of Twister only plays the menu screen and nothing else. I have three discs, two are 4k and one bluray that have trouble playing. They all have the same kind of problem, skipping, freezing, and audio drop outs. And it happened on all three discs where I paused the movie and walked away for a while. I no longer pause my movies or let them play continuously. Every time I take a disc out of my player, it is very hot, and that can't be good for the plastic on the disc.

    Where do I begin....
I don't have NEARLY as nice a system or room as yours, Chris, but I do value premium gear, which is why I'm running a UB9000 (albeit connected to a lowly - compared to your Anthem - Denon X2800). That being said, I'm already on the first replacement drive for this player after mine began freezing on most 4K titles and the disc drawer began making a rather loud cogging/shudder noise when closing.
I sent it in for Panasonic service out of warranty, which cost me a small fortune, and they decided the drive needed to be replaced. The new one has been working fine up until recently, when it developed the same issues - the drawer is beginning to make that shuddering sound as it closes, and it is taking forever to load most discs other than DVDs; some DVDs have absolutely refused to load altogether now.
I don't know what I'm going to do, because all we use is physical media and we have a massive disc collection of DVDs, Blu-rays and UHD Blu-rays - there are no other premium options on the market anymore save for the UB9000 and the overpriced (and ugly) Magnetars, but I don't know if I want to throw any more money at the Panasonic with yet another drive.
I just don't think these things are built to last, regardless of what you pay for them....

I was thinking about buying the ub9000 for my next player but after watching your video I'm having doubts. I know that sooner or later my Oppo will bite the dust. If the ub9000 isn't playing all Dvds then I need to look at other players. I think what I'm going to immediately do is rip all my 4k disc to MKV just in case my Oppo starts acting up. I recently bought a Synology NAS to be used as a Plex Server. I already have 2,000 Blurays & Dvds ripped in my NAS. I'm 68 so I'm old school and prefer Disc over Streaming but I'm slowing getting on board with Streaming. I need to buy a 4k read/write recorder for my PC. If the 4k recordings in MKV are truly equal to the disc quality I may not buy a 4k player period. Sorry for the long story!😅

No issues so far. Over the next few weeks, more and more of your discs will have playback issues. For me it started with Interstellar. When I bought a replacement disc, it played fine. At firsr I thought it’s a disc issue. My conclusion is that the quality of the discs manufactured today isn’t great. Over time, maybe the discs get warped so the 9000 can’t read the disc unless it’s perfect. So it’s a player issue because the player shouldn’t be THAT sensitive to slight disc changes….

That has NOTHING to do with it - I leave mine on Auto since the day I installed it (so it plays 4K discs at their native resolution while automatically upscaling DVDs and Blu-rays to 4K) and can assure you that the HCX processor merely ignores any upscaling commands when playing native 4K content. That's not why some 4K discs aren't playing on this machine; all units, regardless of brand, work the same way in this regard: they upscale any lower resolutions to the top available resolution output while simply showing the native content as-is (if the unit is set to either Auto or the top resolution available).

It's understandable why the UB9000 wouldn't play Cowboys & Aliens. Obviously, it's been programmed to reject crap. 😅 (Although it did run Prometheus, so....maybe it needs a better firmware update to prevent that one from running, too.)

4K movies and 4K discs are a faulty technology. People that have no problems are not paying attention imo. I have 380 movies and four different players and some movies and some players have become incompatible. Good luck I decided to go back to bluray a proven technology and my 20 year old Oppo 103D is still great. The excuse is the discs are dirty no way just an excuse.

Good Lord, your devices are stacked to hell - no ventilation whatsoever. That's the issue buddy

That won’t fix heat soak. They’re way too tight in there all stacked on top of each other. My cheap receiver alone recommends 8” of clearance on the top for cooling.

PS5 is the most reliable player out there. It was designed to play very large discs (games) without any issues. Too bad it miss some major features

IMO ...an expensive DVD/Blu-ray/4k UHD Player is a waste of money because you can just use a PC Optical Drive ($50-$70) with a Free Popular App that allows Ripping your purchased DVD, Blu-ray & 4k UHD Movies to a large Flash Drive/SSD or even a larger Hard Drive & then watch them using your Smart TV's Media Player via USB input.
Also ..."IF" you use your PC or Laptop (connected to your TV/Projector) with an awesome Free Video "Upscaler" App that can also boost the Audio quality too, you can greatly improve the Video playback appearance (user adjustable) on DVDs & Blu-rays...but sometimes even on 4k movies too. 👍
