SSF1 was one of the coolest time wasters I had in middle school whenever I was in a computer lab. Back in 2006 it introduced things that were really impressive for a flash game at the time with dedicated save file, unlocks, multiple modes of play and just feeling like an actual game. Heck it even had the idea of throwing in megaman, sonic, and metaknight before smash even did so. But yeah all the problems you addressed are valid and it has aged about as well as the worst possible graphics in the ps1/n64 era. SSF2 has really shaped into something truly special though, and I've been following the game since the first demo where it essentially played like ssf1 but had the stunning new feature of adding b button moves (all of the old demos are still available on the archive to any curious to see how the game has evolved since 2007.)
Alonzo Tompkins which makes no fucking sense since many games have a no hazards toggle and I highly doubt Sony would sue Nintendo for a game that’s literally been out for like what 6 years

You can have a better view in SSF if you downloaded it. Click view, 100% and then go in full screen. I call it the "God's Eye Glitch" sense I'm pretty sure it wasn't intended. You can also see stuff off in the background of menus such as the "hidden character" resync in 1-P Regular Match. You can see that the background is just a sprite sheet following P1. This explains the Night Mode glitch more better.

Probably the reason why SSF2 hasn't been taken down yet is because of the non-Nintendo characters. They'd probably every have to get every copyright holder's permission to take it down. Since Sega is fine with Sonic fangames, it would be impossible to get SSF2 taken down, so it's safe.

I don't know, and as far as I am aware the other beta testers don't know either. And I'm willing to bet the developers don't 100% know themselves either. Again, this game's been in development for 10 years, and only *just* reached Beta. If we're talking about a full version, that's probably still a loooooooooong ways out.
