  • This is Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell, an extraordinary game of English Magic for 2-4 players.
In Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell, players take on the role of an exceptional magician while traversing across Europe attending dinner parties and meeting influential personalities of the 19th century.
Players also learn and increase the limits of their own magicianship, in order to defeat the gentleman with the thistle-down hair, and become the greatest magician of the age.
You win the game by having the highest magicianship at the end of the game, earned by completed feats of magic, books of magic, your pupil, and any spells granting magicianship.

I just played this with my family, and we missed out on the rule that you can discard an invitation or introduction card to gain a magic element. As you can probably imagine, the fairy trounced us.

Whilst the rules for this game are not particularly complex, I feel that there are certain fiddly rules that the rule book does not do a great job of clarifying.
In your video at 1:29 regarding spell books, the pop up box states that the ‘element on the card you discard must be either studied or depicted on the Card of Marseille.’
    This is incorrect.
The rule book states that ‘the token *placed* must match the card of Marseille or your current study action.’
    (Sorry to be picky).

Good catch! There are a few fiddly rules in the rulebook. We found that once you were able to get them sorted out, it's a lot of fun.
