      The Arrow is the meta. It's still a superior fighter after removing a shield.
      If you want to go unpractical, pick the Gladius. It's bigger and less agile the Arrow and does not even have a superior DPS potential.

    I have to begin with saying that the production quality of the video is absolutely stunning. I already know all about these ships so I was planning on skipping to the end to hear your conclusions but I was left just enjoying how well edited the video was. However, as I often see in these comparison videos the verdict seems heavily based on numbers and not on actual in game experience. This is completely understandable since acquiring ships in-game is either expensive or time consumable and even then it takes time to actually compare them in a sufficient amount of situations.
    I think this video is great for anybody making their mind up over what ship to get but having flown the Arrow extensively I must say that when the Arrow had 2 shields it was extremely out performing the Gladius and I would still argue that it is quite a lot stronger in a 1v1 match up, here is why. The Arrow is ridiculously agile and can mitigate almost all damage from any weapon while still being able to land shots itself thanks to being much smaller and faster in strafing motions. Although the Gladius can have twice the amount of shield health and has more hull health this isn't the strength of a light fighter. If you start to take consistent damage in a squishy ship such as these you aren't going to last much longer anyways. On paper the extra hp is huge but in practice you will find that 6000 extra shield depletes in a matter of seconds once you start taking damage and if that extra agility and smaller size lets you avoid just a few seconds of fire it will already have made up for whatever advantage the other ship has. Lastly there is one more advantage to the Arrow that I find very overlooked, the position of the guns. Both the Gladius and Arrow have wings that very easily get ripped off, especially when being hit by missiles. The Arrow has all its guns on the body which means that it won't lose firepower when losing a wing (assuming you have fired your missiles which are on the wings). The Gladius can suffer immensely since it has two of the guns on the wings and will almost have no chance to keep going once both wings have been lost.
    I hope this adds a bit to the discussion about these two ships and I must say I really love them both. In my opinion both ships are very capable light fighters and among the best 1v1 ships in the game currently. They have their pros and cons but most importantly they have different play styles. If anyone is considering getting one of these ships I would strongly suggest to try them both first by asking around in game, most people will gladly lend you their ship to try out. Stay safe and wash your hands!

    Late to the party, but yes. It seemed like a close fight as I was going through the details - higher agility for lower hull strength and slightly less missile power, sure.
    Then the shield generators came up. Why they thought giving one light fighter half the shield potential of the other when they were supposed to be competitive is beyond me...

    • @Alphascrub_77
      @Alphascrub_77 4 года назад +4

      I know this comment is 4 months late but I find myself agreeing. I guess a case could be made about how the arrow can fold up and has a smaller profile but at the end of the day missiles don't seem to care about your target profile. Honestly after the shield nerf the Anvil Hawk feels like a better light fighter than the arrow. Its faster, just as maneuverable and has an emp. Sure it lacks missiles but it also has a bed/prison cell. It honestly seems like they never wanted the Arrow and Gladius to compete after the shield change.

    • @borkug1566
      @borkug1566 3 года назад +2

      The Arrow - even after removing a shield - is still a superior dog fighter to the Gladius. If you actually fly these two ships in game, you will notice how hard the Arrow is to hit.
      I still love the Gladius because of its looks and its standard UEE fighter status. But I die more in it than in the Arrow.

      Comparing both (starting with the gladius and playing with the arrow as it became available) with shorter ranged hard munitions from 2.7-3.12 I came to the other conclusion. The durability it offers over the arrow is not worth the reduction of maneuverability. It felt like any encounter in which I put myself intro in AC or the PTU in which I wanted that extra durability, I would be better off running a hornet (especially one with the M turret attached) or other heavy fighter instead.
      There seems to be a weird uncanny valley in fighter performance in that the multirole fighters are falling into pre 3.13.2-3.14 (which I can't speak on, as my HOSAS is having some issues and I haven't had the time to fix yet).

    As someone who has only flown an arrow and not a gladius, I can't comment from personal experience on the comparison. I can say, however, that the arrow feels incredibly fragile. It's a blast to fly until a single shot passes anywhere close to it, at which point it instantly explodes. Especially with autogimbals, I've found my much cheaper and less focused ship (the avenger) to be a better fighter than this dedicated fighter that can't even fit a cargo box. It makes me sad, since the arrow is so fun to fly, but I just don't use it at all now.

  • @jeremy7383
    @jeremy7383 4 года назад +3

    I've flown the Gladius a far bit and stat to stat it might be a better ship, but I just started flying the Arrow and man is it a bunch of fun to fly. It feels a bit more balanced and I can get more targets consistency. It's also a benefit that the weapons are closer to the main body vs further out on the wings, less likely to get blown off. I'm def going to try out your load out recommendations!

  • @garvi42

    I'm really hoping physicalized armor will bring the Arrow to be right around where the Gladius is. I think when it comes to these two, they should be pretty similar so you can just select based on your personal taste and not because one is a league ahead of the other. Maybe the Arrow will be used more on carriers thanks its size and folding wings.

    Great comparisation, though one question remains, why use either of them when there is the 325a. The 325a has a higher SCM speed and the same topspeed as both of them, is almost as maneuverable as the arrow, has a considerably higher damagepotential thanks to its S4 mount on the nose, has Cargospace, has an interieur and costs considerably less.

      @SubliminaLstv  4 года назад +9

      For that you'll have to wait for the upcoming Aegis Glaidus vs the 325a the real fight for the "King of the Light Fighters". But no seriously the amount of surface area that can be hit when you are behind a Gladius vs when you are behind a 325a is drastic. The Gladius is just harder to hit. And the gladius's in atmo flight is really good. There are reasons I have flown both and find myself really torn between the two. And I have a dedicated cargo ship. And Mass Drivers are literally broken right now.

    • @neonweaver8624

      The 325a is quite bigger. Also, it has the same max speed, but it doesn't has the same acceleration and overheats a lot more. And when the 325a loses a wing, it not only loses a weapon, but also a retro-thruster. The 325a is a very nice ship, but the gladius feels a lot better as a light fighter.

      I went from Titan to 325 old and then the rework. I actually liked the Titan better. Same DPS potential. Titan is slightly less nimble and much slower, but when armor comes in it should be much more tanky. The versatility of the ramp is much nicer. And can hold a bike or greycat. Cockpit is garbage but maybe they will make it look a bit less Drake at some point. But for the cost difference the 325 just doesn't bring enough to the table. I ended up melting the 325.

    You will be able to upgrade or make your ship more stealthy depending on the mission by replacing your ships outer skin using an Anvil Crucible. The materials in hull plating can be modified to be lighter more agile and stealthy, or beefed up to take more of pounding. That’s the Crucibles specialty, combine the elements you want to make your ship reach its full potential and also why your not getting it all in one package, which gives the Crucible a business to perform. Im sure there will be limits to this otherwise the Drake Buccaneer would be able to wipe everything from the sky and make the Vanduul cry for mercy.

  • @maddogs1989
    @maddogs1989 4 года назад +6

    I'm going to hit this from a lore standpoint.
    Yes the arrow is Anvils answer to the gladius. However it was never adopted for probably many of the reasons the M16 hasnt been phased out.
    First the Gladius was being replaced very slowly by the Hornet. A medium fighter, which in turn is being replaced by the lightning a heavy fighter.
    Second the Arrow doesnt beat the Gladius enough to warrant replacing it. This is a general thing on why military equipment isnt replaced immediately when better tech comes out.
    But let's continue. While Anvil is know for building beefy ships the Arrow is their first foray into light fighters it goes with out saying that they would make design mistakes in doing such to try and compete

  • @ALTAC6
    @ALTAC6 4 года назад

    The thing to keep in mind is that there's more to balance between the light fighters than just their dogfighting performance. Their size matters for reasons other than target profile. You can fit 3 Arrows into a 890 Jump, you might not be able to even fit two Gladius or Buccs in that space. If you only have one extra crewman to fly the defensive fighter for you, then you don't want them flying the Arrow, you'd want one of the others. But if you have 3 people able to pilot defensive fighters for your ship, then you're going to have to use the Arrow. And in terms of balance in battle, an 890 Jump with a single Buccaneer isn't as much of a threat as an 890 Jump with 3 Arrows. So the amount of Arrows that can be easily deployed tilts the game balance towards them in a way that isn't based on their combat stats.
    It gets even more pronounced with something like a Kraken. Particularly if you want your air wing to be more profitable and utilitarian. You might want a Prospector, one of the single-person refinery ships that they're concepting, a Vulture, maybe a Vulcan too. And the pilot for each of those utility craft can also keep an Arrow on the deck of the ship for them to use in a fight, for four Arrows without using much of your valuable deck space. And if you had enough pilots you could absolutely jam-pack a Kraken with Arrows, moreso than any other light fighter. So it depends on your flight deck/hangar space, and how many pilots you have.

    One more request. Do a comparison between Sabre Comet and Hawk? Or comparable. Flying in a Vanguard Harbinger (I consider this model as a missile boat like MIS, not as a heavy fighter. Polaris is a torpedo boat) a skilled pilot in a Comet Sabre ripped me and a component-upgraded Titan Avenger in a 5-minute battle. Another question, what's the difference (purpose ?) between sabre class of recon stealth fighters and your light fighters as it applies to use in SC?

    @AntiTheory 4 года назад +1

    I gave the Arrow a try - upgraded my package and bought the components. I've gotta say, it's a fun little ship but the only thing I don't like about it is the wings tend to rip easily, and your missile racks along with it.
    I hate the Strife Mass Drivers. They fire too slowly for my tastes. I'm going to replace them with 3 Hellions instead since I always seem to orbit around slower ships and engage them at nearly point-blank anyway.

      the slower cannons have been fun on the Sabre since you get 4 of them, you can pretty much 1 or 2 tap a bucc before it even has the chance to get close. But yes for the arrow, scatterguns are really fun. I cant stand restocking ammo so i just go Dominance lasers.

    Acquiring ships in-game is exactly what I have done, I had to carry a lot of boxes and haul a lot of mineral but at the end it was worth it, a Player, McClusky also donated 1600+cr uncollicited and I am very grateful for the gesture. My choice was the Gladius, I positively love it and fitted it with 3 Querrelers, upgraded power plant, shields and QT engine. I took up my first bounty hunting mission with it and the target went bang after less than one second burst. The Querreler has longer range and load of poke, if the Anvil Arrow is more maneuverable, from long to medium range it is not as much of an advantage, there are ways to kill more maneuverable targets and it is to deny them their advantage, in short not to play the game to their tune. Use your superior speed to engage/disengage and dictacte the fight while denying the more agile ship a firing solution and keep ing them in range of your superior weapons. I could have got the Harrow but I don't regret my choice.

    The Arrow has some of the best acceleration, too, but that's not a listed stat and kind of has to be guessed by G's in flight. I'm not sure how tough it should be - maybe 4500 to 6000 total hp. But destructibility is a big part of balance and the Arrow really only loses its missiles if its wings are torn off, while the Gladius can be torn down into a list.
    Regardless, I have an Arrow right now with the idea that at the very least, its semi-stealth focus can compensate for a lot.

    Not saying this is the official take, but I really like the idea that there are manufacturer faux pas in the verse. Anvil taking a step outside of their comfort zone and making a less homogeneous design at the expense of inferiority is a lot more akin to real life. If everyone only bought what was superior on paper, we would have far less brand diversity today. Some manufacturer would have made the 'superior design' and put it's competitor out of business. The reality is, just like irl- these brands have fan-bases. Someone who is a fan of anvil, and is also looking for a light fighter may compromise on the fact that it is on paper, an inferior ship, and buy it any way. This allows a greater return for skill expression, while simultaneously granting a better sense of enjoyment in the game when you overcome paper odds. I can still down "superior" fighters in an arrow even today.

      They keep switching up the keybinds, I think you can press H to switch between chaff and flares.
      Chaff and flares are also IRL countermeasures used to evade missiles. Flares spoof IR missiles by burning bright hot and seducing the missile. Chaff spoof CS missiles by releasing a metal cloud that shows up easily on radar and blocks the missile from seeing it's target or tricks the missile into targeting the cloud.
      I also think you're using the term 'counter measure' when you mean 'counter strategy' where counter measures are physical ordinance.

      "EM Missiles can be defeated with Chaff countermeasures"
      "Cross-Section (CS): Locks onto a ship's cross-section and appearance. Lock-on time is long compared to IR and EM locking, but more difficult to fool and unlikely to track the wrong target."

    Hawk vs Gladius vs Arrow
    Weight: The Hawk comes in second at 40,000kg

    Cargo, Crew, QT Fuel Tank: all tied
    SCM Speed: The Hawk wins hands down with a SCM speed of 225m/s
    Top Speed: The Hawk once again blows the Arrow and Gladius away with a max speed of 1315m/sec
    Agility: The Hawk wins again, with a pitch rate that ties the Arrow at 75d/s, but a Yaw rate of 80d/s, beaten only by the MISC Razor and some snub craft in the entire game
    Hull HP: The Hawk tells both ships to talk to the hand with a hull strength of 7200hp
    Guns: The Hawk laughs maniacly with its 1941 default DPS
    NOTE: This is largely distortion damage, however with a full loadout of Neutron Repeaters, it still has a higher burst and sustained DPS than the Arrow and Gladius.
    Missiles: The Hawk has no missiles, but instead sports an EMP.
    Prisoner Pod: Hawk has one, only small ship besides the Avenger Stalker that does.
    Aesthetics: Arrow is shaped like an arrow, Gladius is...actually also shaped like an arrow. Hawk is literally shaped like a pissed off bird of prey swooping down to eat you alive. And when the EMP is charged it looks like a pissed off bird of prey wreathed in crackling lightning. I'd call this another Hawk win, but admittedly this is 100% subjective.
    OH AND UNLIKE THE ARROW, IT DOESN'T SACRIFICE HALF ITS SHIELDING TO BE AGILE! (The Hawk has 2 shield generators like most small ships.)

      I haven't flown one yet, but I'm worried that the 'Hull HP' listed for the Hawk is misleading because it adds up all the little wings and bits and pieces that fall of so easily when you shoot at the Hawk. So that in practice Gladius seems tougher. What do you make of that?

    • @SubliminaLstv
      @SubliminaLstv  4 года назад +1

      Austin M.'s Ship Battle! But seriously do you use the hawk to fight against actual players? (That sounds nastier out of context) Those wings get shot off and you loose those little pea shooters that are attached. And Spreedom2 is correct it has more hull HP because it has more surface area. Hull HP is the total sum of all the parts of a ship that can get hit. Now the EMP is a learning curve that can be used to an advantage but then id probably go for another ship with an EMP over the hawk. It will be a great ship once you can put someone in the back and turn in a bounty. So I got to level 10 pirate swarm with the Gladius the other day. Let me know if you can do that with the hawk and I will review it in the near future.

      @@SubliminaLstv I will give pirate swarm a try this weekend. I will tell you that I've taken down the following solo in the PU: A bucc, 2 cuttys, a valkyrie, and a cat. All at once. Shields never dropped, ship took no hull damage. I don't usually do PvP, but I have killed a player Arrow in my Hawk once using my old 6x GT-210 loadout. He did manage to rip off one of my 6 guns before I killed him, though.
      Keep in mind the same issue applies to the Arrow as to its missiles, whereas the Hawk will retain its EMP until you kill it. But yes, afaik none of the parts you can knock off a Gladius have guns attached. To be honest, I lose parts on the Hawk so seldom that it really isn't something I factor into it. It's agile enough I just don't run into things and nothing drops the shields unless it's something like a HH that kills it anyway.
      Now if we're talking about my Cutty Red, I feel like I've seen as much of its internals as the engineers who designed it, lol.

    I don't understand why you always go for highest power output power plants and coolers. Even with full laser loadout you are looking at 2/3 of power and cooling used for Gladius. With the Breton it is less than half usage with weapons shooting, shields charging and ship manoeuvring. Over 50K aUEC for nothing. 21 second power down from EMP is most likely something you will not recover from. Cooling as well, replacing one cooler with Zero Rush with faster power up time for some of initial cooling is enough to get you going before you get enough cooling from your other cooler, or just double down on Zero Rush, 2 combined have enough cooling to effectively cool down your components

Back when I made this my idea was that if a cooler had 100k/s cooling and a request time of 3 seconds then after 1 second it would be cooling at 33k/s and if a cooler had a cooling rate of 200k/s and a request time of 3sec then at 1 second it would be cooling at 66k/s. This is why i recommended it however after some testing it seems that the thrusters, weapons, and components are pipe limited. You'd have to watch the cooler or power plant guide to understand it further. Also the links to my loadouts should take you to the updated ones.

    The Gladius is kinda like the f-18 Hornet (dual engines)
    The arrow is kinda like the f-16 Falcon (single engine).
    That being said...... I like the Gladius cuz of the way it looks.

    they'are both really good but the prices make the arrow easier to get. but the hull hp make and shields make the choice harder. ok i'll buy them both. big brain

    Right now with 2 shields you can exploit shield properties as they stack with each other, if you install a high hitpoint shield and a regen shield you effectively make using energy weapons against the gladius pointless. So you are then forced to use ballistics and let's not get into the sledge/mass driver meta currently used.

    • @StoneCoolds
      @StoneCoolds 4 года назад +1

      Shields are kinda pointless now, havent seen a single ship using energy weapons lol .everyone use ballistic so they wil penetrate the shields

    • @SubliminaLstv
      @SubliminaLstv  4 года назад +1

      Wait what? Shields will stop 50% to 98% (100% for the sukoran) so shields do matter. They will stop up to half the ballistic fire.

      Just read your post. This is how I understood it a couple of months back, but this is inaccurate. It may have been correct at some point. Shields use their individual properties to add to the facing of a shield pool. So if you have 1 shield gen with a hp pool of 1,000 and a regen of 200hp/s as well as a damage delay of 1 sec and another with shield with 2,000 pool, 400hp/s, and a 30s damage delay. Then after after 5 seconds of being hit shield 1 would have its max pool of 1,000 added but shield 2 wouldn't even start adding back to the pool until after 30sec. My understanding used to be that shield 1 and 2 would start regening after 1s because it would take whatever property was better. This is a myth. Im sorry for feeding into it. Also this scenario ignores draw request time don't get me started there after 3.10 ill do a components guide.

      @@SubliminaLstv at the time the post was made both shields would receive the benefit of 1 shield of instant regen throwing out the delay of the shield with one.
      The shield of choice for the time was the palisades and veils. The palisades offered very high hitpoints and the veil offered instant regen for both shields.

    I don't get it tho. I mean the Titan, which I never considered a pvp ship, has the same gun possibilities as these two dedicated fighters. While I doubt it's as maneuverable, it's no slacker either. I would think as dedicated fighters they would have more, or the Titan would have less.

    • @bolla999999999
      @bolla999999999 2 года назад

      It's not really about how big your guns are or the buc would be meta. If you can't consistantly apply or dodge damage you are dead in the water. It's not a horrible ship but if you are going to pvp on the cheep then a mustang will do you much better.

    • @BigBobBlazer
      @BigBobBlazer 2 года назад

      @@bolla999999999 Wasn’t really my point. I understand the maneuverability factor, hence why I mentioned it. I don’t have the Titan for pvp, just surprising it has the same firepower.
      Think of it logically. You are designing a ship. Yes, outmaneuvering is a must. But you also want to try and combine that with the best firepower you can. I would think you could do better than what a small delivery ship has on it. I mean, death by a thousand cuts with tiny guns is doable, but it simply takes longer and is less enjoyable.
      My arrow does just fine for pvp. But mainly play with friends and use the redeemer, hurricane or HH if we have enough people online.
      But then again I took out a dude in a Gladius yesterday in my MSR. It also has a lot to do with the pilot.
      The hurricane makes sense to me.

    hello guys.
    i m considering buying the game.
    can anyone tell me, how many people are simultaneously on one server ?
    like, whats the chance of meeting a stranger in deep space ?
    also, what happens with the ship when i get destroyed ?

      50 by now. Chances depends on where you are going. There are some hotspots around good trading routes. So every now and then you meet a few people, but it's not like their everywhere.

    0:58 Arrow is tiny compared to Gladius, its reasonable for Arrow to have only 1 generator. Arrow looks like F-35 & I just hate the F-35 looks.

    The Arrow was not "Nerfed" It was Corrected back to it's original design spec loadout. It was pitched with 1 shield generator not two. When it was put in the game it was given 2 shields and that proved to be too much of an advantage as it is harder to hit in game making it superior not different.
