On this channel we like to do a lot of dogfighting most videos are some sort of dogfight between 2 different aircraft as we explore their different capabilities. From time to time I like to dabble in Virtual Reality, I think VR is a great new technology and I love to show that stuff off for the channel from time to time.

actually the exact plane USAF S/N 71-0290 that was used for the STOL/MTD program was also used for the ACTIVE and IFCS programs so it is 3 prorotypes in a trenchcoat
thats also the reason that most people confuse the STOL/MTD and ACTIVE programs cause its actually the same plane

I'm a retired F-15 C/D/E crew chief and I want to know where the hell they put the actuators for the canards
Im pretty sure what they did was remove the gun in order to make room for the actuators, so the only way for it to have guns is for it to have a gunpod on the center pylon

The gun and the in-flight refueling receptacle and associated plumbing was removed.
I have about 50 hours in NASA 837 at Dryden. (Now Armstrong) I know, I know ... I just drive your jet.
The internal configuration was altered more significantly than comments suggest. Some volume was "found" by removing the gun, but it all had to be reshuffled internally. The main reason the gun came off, IIRC, is that its trajectory would have ben THROUGH the canard.
The canards are actually attached at the Wing sponson fairing/LEX. There is a fairing for the actuator on top of the intakes on both sides, about even with the AC exhaust.
Electric and oxy had to be rerouted, I think the internal tank configuration was changed, There was some repositionining of the in-flight fueling receptacle, but it remained problematic to execute in flight refueling ... I can't remember what else. When the crew briefed me ... I was overwhelmed quite frankly.
There are so so many alterations to test articles from their operational variants, you basically have to throw out the operational book and start over. Not only do we have a ton of instrumentation, we often have new equipment on board, like space based ranging gear, and aerodynamic thrust test gear. The plane would change configuration, internal and external, one flight to the next.
Always a little too exciting.

Hey I'm not sure if anyone's mentioned it or not but this video has some funny artifacts or shimmering during some of the turns, 7:42 or so is when it's really prominent. Makes it hard to track the bogey for us.

My coworker was a test pilot and actually few F-16s against the F-15MTD at Edwards and said he got smoked every time.
