That was a great analysis! I agree on pretty much everything. People seem to see Heimer being kicked off the council as betrayal when it's really just him failing to hold up to standard the very first time he's ever been held responsible for something. And let's be honest, you didn't wanna be up there anyway.
I agree. Heimerdinger means well, but his lack of empathy and narrow-minded view is what got him kicked out. Let's hope his friendship with Ekko and time with the Firelights may help him seek redemption, better understanding and wonder.
Great analysis again! I always saw Heimerdinger as a rather ridiculous character, especially in the light of how he enters the scene when Jayce is in jail. His head is literally too big for his shoulders and he almost topples over. There's a definite parallel to a Yoda type character in Heimerdinger, they're both rather ridiculous sometimes, but as you spot so nicely what Heimerdinger misses is the empathy, the ability to really understand people and their problems. He's a buoy skimming through time, not descending into the real (under) world until the end where he finds real solutions and real empathy. I really liked your foil comment with Ekko as "little man", spot on!
Thanks Tilda! :D I like that comparison to Yoda - he definitely has his flaws too which are so easy to see in the prequels, the original trilogy paints him as the "untouchable" sage but in a humbling type of way... It's got me thinking!!
Heimerndinger is a good character, he's very unique for who he tries to be as a character. I do think he doesn't understand that in order for progress to move forward, he needs to be willing to take action and help progress what's needing to be done. I really like the points you mention aren't just basic as in, "Heim screwed up and he doesn't move on", but actually adding depth and understanding that made me want to continue watching. Thank you greatly for this amazing video!
Heimerdinger is in charge of a scientific regime with apparently no protocols, just an "Ethos" that outlines what is forbidden and what isn't. There is no evidence of independent research facilities with teams carefully and methodically exploring ideas (especially dangerous ones like Hextech). There appears to be no formalized peer review or documentation protocol such that others can confirm new theories, conduct experiments, verify results, and measure outcomes. Jayce and Viktor appear to be given exclusive access to Hextech development, which is not how scientific research, especially research into extremely dangerous technologies, is conducted responsibly. So before we delve into Heimerdinger's personal shortcomings as a science mentor, we should first acknowledge that the much bigger problem is the lack of real infrastructure for careful, methodical, and responsible scientific research in Piltover.
Not only that, but Ekko is some who in theory, mirrors Heimer's wisdom through time. While Heimer ignores small problems, Ekko focuses on them THROUGH his time tech. We havent seen Ekko gain his powers but we don't have to; when fighting against Jinx we realize he remembers each shot she fires and then dodges only the last shot. Ekko finds the small problems and knows that by fixing them, he prevents the big problems. A nod to how he tries and tries again on his fighs going back in time until he finishes the battle. A mirror to Heimer once again, cus ekko literally has all the time in the world, but by his own words 'make every second count' his main focus on using those seconds is empathy. He doesnt only survive for long decades like Heimer, he lives every second of them.
Your video made me think of a possible inspiration for Heimerdingers’ character, the frustration the shows’ younger intended audience can feel when dealing with older generations. Those that tell them that action isn’t needed as things will work themselves out eventually, and that their problems aren’t as big a deal as they think.
I love thissss - I'm Korean American, and doing this analysis actually made me think that Heimerdinger is super Asian LOL. great video ! I love watching your perspective on Heimerdinger. I also think he is a great character and gains a lot more importance in S2 with his redemption arc. S1 is just the set up for Ekko and Heimerdinger - next season gets wild ^^ in case you might be interested on more information about the non explained warnings about the hextech use and Heimerdinger's brief glimpse of memories, this cinematic might make things more substancial for you. This cinematic is from the perspective of an even older mage character called Ryze (and suspected to be the mage that saved child Jayce in Arcane in ep2) and his involvement in the rune wars (the hexcore has the basic runes engraved before it morphed after devouring Sky - I also believe the hexcore devoured Sky because she did not have any runes engraved on her body). The rune wars are about the 5 world runes. The hex core misses his 5th rune - that may be the reason Victor can not utilize it. Sky is repeatedly talking about inspiration when walking up to Victors lab - the missing rune is called "inspiration". Victor later on picks up Sky's journal. We suspect that the journal/Sky's research might entail the missing pieces of information to complete and control the hexcore. ruclips.net/video/oGnZk-_R0KQ/видео.html.
Wait this is nuts, thanks for telling me about all this 🤯 I feel like if I try to include lore in my arcane vids I'll explode but this is genuinely so cool
@@katiecooke5438 Arcane is not confirmed to be entirely canon lore. But I wish they retcon some parts of the lore and make Arcane canon (originally the lore started off as loose bios from each character slowly filled in by events and short stories in order to connect the characters). Vi's backstory was almost completely retconed for Arcane and Jayce's and Victors relationship startet of way rockier than in Arcane. But I think these are smaller deviations. [TBH I am still not 100% convinced that Vi and Jinx are real blood related sisters... but in the end that doesn't matter- what matters is, how they feel about each other- and even if that's the case ,I believe only Vi knows, but won't ever make that point to Jinx] The LoL players didn't even know that Vi and Jinx are sisters until Arcane was announced. They cleverly left many parts in the canon lore blank, not explained or only teased to keep their creative freedom for Arcane which was a good choice imo. Out of all the things Jayce did as a councilor, I actually agreed w/ kicking off Heimerdinger. All we ever saw him do was shut down ideas, but he never offered anything helpful for current problems. Like you said he was lacking empathy for the short life span of humans. Plus the City is such a mess after he’s been in power since it’s founding.
thank you so much! it was important for me to hear now about empathy and wisdom. it's like two eyes .. otherwise the picture is not complete.. important to have both. And yes! Give time is important but is not the answer to EVERYTHING. I think sometimes I do same mistakes in my life.
In the western understanding give time means to solve problems by itself. But what is when the things are going worse by this non action? If there is a house burning in a city you can purge it by let the house burn down...but it can happen that the next houses will be set on fire too and finally the whole city will burn down. The real problems are the victims that occur during the period in which time can solve the problems. I mean all problems could be solved when the council just waited till every kingpin and warlord gets older and dies....but there would have been others after them to go on and on and on...not acting seems crazy to me to really solve problems.
I'm still kind of on the outside looking in at this franchise, having only seen "Arcane", so take this for what it is... I'm aware that Heimerdinger is still associated with Piltover in the game proper, but I'd really enjoy a version of him that just stayed in Zaun. Working with Ekko, genuinely making life in the undercity better for everyone, putting his experience and curiosity to good material use, and learning that his previous hands-off, willfully blind approach was the wrong one. And it would be a great story of a character who, given the opportunity to go back to a cushy life and do nothing, decides to give that up because his work in Zaun has come to mean too much. He could still be a mad scientist, just one with a very different perspective on the world.
What a great video again! You just made me love Heimerdinger even more haha. I can't wait to see him in season 2 catching up with reality. I wonder what will come out of it, especially on his mindset about Piltover and Jayce. I would love to hear more about your thoughts on Arcane if you ever have another topic itching you, will be there for next vid!
Thing is older does not mean wiser..... Experience doesn't truly come bigger with age. It can actually be completely opposite.... As wisdom is not something that is permanent. We mostly remember thing that let us function in our "comfort zone" when over years we often forget many things and experiences from past. This is why high school, or college graduate can be smarter and know more than diplomated professor.
@Katie Cooke Hi Katie, just saw it a few minutes ago. First I have to say that I do not like Heimerdinger as you do. He might be a genius, he may have founded the city of progress...but for what? For a bunch of profithungry upperglass idiots? I think Heimerdinger lost to do any good for the people of his city and is at the end as a councilor only looking for having a good life in luxury. He did not even aknowledge which needs the people in his city have. Instead of this he enjoys good time at the opera and tells a dying Victor to destroy the research that might keep him alive. His tactics and behaviors did you work out in your video - btw. again a great job, thank you for all your heart, work and time you put into this video. it is a great contribution. But lets go back to Heimerdinger...first I have to say he is cute and the first time he appeared in the show it put a smile on my face, I am sure my two little nices would like to have toy-dolls of him and his dog and would love them. But for me each time his appearance get worse and even worser. You call it a lack of empathy, but in my opinion he is an hedonist who even not cares for anyone else. He is so far from what Caitlyn calls the real life that it makes me sick when I follow him in his non actions, his only advice to let time solve problems...and that from an so famous and formerly succsessful inventor. He did not try to achieve great, but he also forget to do good to use Victors in a modified way...and Heimerdinger would have had enough time to achieve a better live for the citizens in the Undercity...if he just tried but instead of this he became lazy and had a good life. Well, you see I really do not like Heimerdinger. Maybe his partnership with Ekko will make him a better person, teach him what people need to tive and not only to survive. Once again thank you for the great video and your much appreciated opinions and as I said before: discussions with everyone with the same opinion are getting boring fast. So to all Heimerdinger fans: Fire free, all weapons !
All I want to answer about your message is the reason piltover was found was to escape the power hungry warmongering of mages. great video ! I love watching your perspective on Heimerdinger. I also think he is a great character and gains a lot more importance in S2 with his redemption arc. S1 is just the set up for Ekko and Heimerdinger - next season gets wild ^^
in case you might be interested on more information about the non explained warnings about the hextech use and Heimerdinger's brief glimpse of memories, this cinematic might make things more substancial for you.

If you like I can recommend to you some more cinematics and trailers that refer to characters and events in connection to the Piltover/Zaun plot that may or may not be picked to be told through Arcane. But this may spoil you on abilities and stories ^^ - If you don't mind I gladly fill you in on the present information ;)
Other than that I can recomment a very good video from schnee about Ekko (if you scroll through the comments
you might stumble upon my elaborate thoughts as well^^) : ruclips.net/video/9c3s17NvX5M/видео.html
also this video by Five by Five Takes is a nice compact analysis on Arcane Jinx/Vi plot added references from literature
regarding mental instabilities - this is a great addition to the analysis Georgia Dow already did (if you didn't already watch this)

Regarding the runes - these are the 5:
leagueoflegends.fandom.com/wiki/Rune?file=Runes_2018.jpg
-Domination (the red one Ryze is holding and putting back)
-Resolve
-Sorcery (looks like a raw hex crystal in the mid)
-Precision (compare this to the golden pattern/amor/tattoos of Mel's back ep9...the shapes strangely match ^^)
-Inspiration (looks like the shape on Sky's research paper cover)
@@redroseibarahime8755 so dope, thanks for sharing these! The cinematics are sooo high quality, no wonder people were so hungry for something like arcane
@@katiecooke5438 this is a cool cinematic of a later plotline where you see Caitlyn and Vi ^^ which is very likely to presented if Arcane continues to tell the story of Piltover and Zaun mainly.

The song "Warriors" was sung by Imagine Dragons in 2014 for the world championship. Together with the seasonal cinematic 2020 they released an epic cover of that song , composed by 2WEI. They newest cinematic is composed by 2WEI as well and it is hella amazing !
Here the original by Imagine Dragons:

It will be awesome to see Heimer becoming the daring and kinda mad scientist that he is in the game on season 2
hahaha, I'm curious to see the unfold too!
Him and Sevika are the characters I'm most hyped to see in season 2
omggg yes to sevika...her last scene of smoking on silco's couch...i'm so curious
@@katiecooke5438 she's gonna be so mad at Jinx if she finds out 🤣🙃
Out of all the things Jayce did as a councilor, I actually agreed w/ kicking off Heimerdinger.
I love the takeaways you had from my video! 😁 Thanks for enjoying it!
Thanks so much! For the next vid I wanted to go on a more theorizing route and think about what Vi went through at Stillwater :o
I just found your channel and I love the quality, and the amount of thought put into it. Thank you!
Thanks, I appreciate it! Planning a new video for this week maybe??
Hi, great job. This show is so rich with...everything. I'm somewhat late to the Arcane scene. Enjoying your videos. Hope to see more.
Welcome and thanks! :)
I hope Heimerdinger and ekko find viktor. Them 3 together would be a sight to see.
So heimerdinger is a furry yoda to ekko luke.

That's the problem with being immortal (or semi-immortal) you take time and life for granted. Think you can just wait things out.

I love this skrunkly boy, but he needs some therapy
You do have some interesting view point and it's good to think about, I just hope they have a opportunity to dive in to some lore and world of runeterra, it's not just call because it's cool 😆
@@grimm516 You are right, I do not play LoL and have no idea of the world of Runeterra and its lore...and I did not miss it watching the show. This is something which Arcane made great in my opinion...not telling to much background to the recognition of their players. For me it was great in this way because the show made me enjoy the story much more. No expectations lead to no disappointments. After season 1 this will be big hypothecary for the seasons to come ( and yes I hope there will be more than one more seasons).
The war mongering mages sounds interresting for a roleplayer who prefers playing mages and thank you for your nice way of telling me that most I said might have been nonsense. Thump up!
@@thomasewald7905 Na it's cool you do make valid point and I think the head responsible for arcane made a good choice starting with piltover and zaun and the people their is a good starting point because it has connections to other regions and will lead in to allot of fun world building.
But all of that takes a second seat to the characters and I just want more jinx
And violyn 🥰🥰🥰🤩🤩🤩
@@grimm516 I like these the most too. But I am every time thinking only if they are entertaining and sweet (like a cupcake😆) I am not sure that I would feeling comfortable in their company. I mean every time you say a wrong word Vi would make you loose your front teeth or if you come to play with Jinx she might shoot you or make you die in an explosion. Caitlyn is quite more reasonable but might arrest you. Its my thing not only look for the most entertaining character in the show, I am trying to imaging how it would be seeing them every day. With Jinx I would feel like Thieram aka Chuck in the last drop, pure panic to make everything correct to be not killed. Not the kind of acquaintance I would like to have. So it would be not honest to name Jinx onre of my favorite characters. In total I have to say that I have problems with sympathy to crazy protagonists.
@@thomasewald7905 Love the thoughts, and I think your points are fair. Perhaps it might be worth it to go through LoL lore cuz I haven't either, and I've also heard that Heimerdinger is totallyyyy different in the game. But I loved reading through your conversation and thanks again for supporting the vid :')
