I really dislike Pewscience for this aspect of how they do much of their testing. They market it as testing the can but they aren't. They're testing the can and host combo, this does not accurately test the can for anything except that specific host making their rankings/testing completely pointless. The internet treats their testing and ranking as if it's gospel. But their testing is completely useless for any other host, a bolt gun, or anyone who tunes for the can.
@@snek9353 Wait, you dislike Pewscience for being scientific? You can't really practically test the can without a host. So, you do your best to make a generalized host and keep that host consistent across cans to see how they compare. There's not really another way to do it other than meticulously tuning for each can, but that has its own set of flaws. It's valuable data for certain standouts, but not good for the general experimentation.
Slightly off topic, but when Hop said "shooting around other people without making them hate you" I had a flashback montage of every time I've been at the range and the socially inept RSOs who thought it would be funny to put the guys with an AR with some ostentatious muzzle brake on the lane next to me, while I test and re-zero an AR with a suppressor. One guy even had a Q Cherry Bomb without a suppressor, which was deafening through my Sordin ears and a pair of foamies underneath, and it threw unburnt propellent all over me from whatever garbage ammo they were burning through. That range visit disproved the old saying that "a bad day on the range is better than a day spent anywhere else." Thanks for that, Weber County Shooting Complex. Please, buy a suppressor if you have to shoot inside a lot. If you don't have it yet, please take the brake off and put the A2 back on. None us us want to be shooting the AR inside, but you don't have to make it worse with the most unnecessary accessory for a 5.56 AR, the muzzle brake.
If you don't like it don't go to indoor ranges. That's your mistake, I refuse to use indoor ranges. In fact I almost never use an outdoor range and just use public land.
This is why you run some kind of QD mount with a brake, so you can take the can off and return the favor extra hard with a magdump as they are trying to pack up just to make a point before you leave. Also this is why you don't go to indoor ranges whenever other options are available.

If the earlier cans were good and the company wasn't mismanaged, HUXWRX "The Safety Company" would still be called OSS. I am glad the technology is improving, newer flow through cans are much better than just a few years ago. The recent models from B&T are pretty solid.
You might look into the HUXWRX Ventum line. I picked one up, as it was a couple hundred bucks cheaper than the Flow, but is still flow-through, so it's not so gassy on ARs. Instead of monolithic titanium construction, the Ventums are steel outer tubes (the serialized part) with 3D printed titanium cores. Take the endcap off, and you can remove the core for cleaning, and in the event of a baffle strike, the core can just be replaced. It's also HUB compatible, so you can throw Rearden mounts or any other mounting system of your choice on it. They are a little heavier and not quite as low-backpressure as the Flow line, but I've been quite happy with mine thus far. I see the Ventums on sale for under $700 pretty regularly.
I recently bought a Huxwrx 556 Flow. I was pleasantly surprised by the sound reduction. From everything I’d read/watched, I expected it to be lame but I can hear bullets hitting the berm at 100 yards. Both an older Windham Weaponry AR and another 16” mid-length gas system rifle run fine without *any* tuning. Standard springs and buffers in both. It was expensive. However, Huxwrx includes a flash hider and a wrench in the box. I like that complete package, and you should take that $150 +/- into account when comparing it to other suppressors. Especially if you have to buy a mount and a muzzle device for the alternative. The can does get stuck when hot, especially if it’s cold outside. But that’s true with Plan B too.
Just curious why you chose the 556k vs the 762 Ti? Putting aside the slightly higher price and length, would the 762 Ti be more quiet on a 14.5 to 16” gun?
@@Wammywammsters2024 without speaking for dude to get the best "performance" you want to go with a silencer that's the same size as what you're shooting. I have a lot of cans, the Flow556 is absolutely fantastic. It very much surprised me with how well it works being how low it's back pressure is. I have low back pressure cans that suppress less with more back pressure.
The manufacturer driven, customer accepted, race to squeeze every last fraction of a dB out of a suppressor is what hampered the proliferation of flow-through and compact cans. Once people realize there was a lot to gain by sacrificing a dB or two, it really opened up a wide range of options and possibilities.
I have the huxworks 7.62 TI flow through suppressor. I use it on my SCAR and my 6.5 PRC hunting rifle. I have been pleased with its performance on both guns
It's kind of interesting watching this video since flow through suppressors are like the only thing people buy in Finland for semiautomatic rifles, and they are like 500-600€ (in Finland, an expensive as fuck country, and no separate suppressor tax), we even have two different domestic flow through manufacturers, Ase Utra and Silent Steel with multiple different versions, which everyone buys and chooses between.
US is way behind with suppressors because of the NFA Everyone that actually shoots with his rifle will sooner or later move to some kind of flow-through or low backpressure design
@@PolenarTactical it's still so strange to me as there's so much more market volume, existing and upcoming manufacturing and technical workforce availability in Murica, not to mention the gun and wider investment culture and opportunities, and existing manufacturing anyway requires a SOT license in Murica so, even with the ridiculous NFA it's strange to me, and like Finland has NFA built in to even just getting guns. As far as I understand it requires even more licensing to do this kind of manufacturing in Finland, even if it's shall issue if you don't have any real things against you. Of course it's possible that we leapfrogged this as we have very good education and skilled labour (basis of our entire economy) and that's very nice for us, but I'm still in awe of it.
@@EmilFihlman depends of the laws, in Slovenia we have legalized suppressors for only a couple of years now but people are quickly catching on. That's because you dont need a license and you can buy cheap suppressors (or make your own), do some shooting and then decide to spend more money on a product that suits you the best. We still see this today where less educated shooters will always go for the most quite conventional cans and those that actually shoot with their rifles will soon come back and buy a more expensive flow-through can. Our goal is to educate people on the harm of the increased backpressure for the rifle and for them, but some just need to get those spicy gasses into their face and eyes to understand. As you probably know, a lot of people still dont realize that if you are shooting with super-sonic ammo, you dont really need the quietest suppressors there is because ear protection is still required and a decibel or two doesnt make much difference. So more experienced users are now looking for low backpressure cans, primarily the ones that are short and light but still suppress enough to be comfortably used indoors
I own ase utra Dual S and SL5. I shoot the SL5 rather but I do shoot HK and after 2 years I tuned gas on it. The Dual gets dirty, clogs up and does not silence as well. It is also heavier and longer. But when clean it really is smooth to shoot.

I’ve been running a KGM R556a1 a ton in run and gun competitions and it is incredible. It’s my first can and I absolutely love the backflow setup. No gas in my face and it doesn’t throw spark like some other flow through options.
FWIW, I also was worried about the tuning fork ping on my Flow K because I know that would drive me nuts, but it hasn't really shown up for me. From what I can tell online it seems like some people have it and some don't, so I chalk that up to the inherent variance in the DMLS process

I talked with Cobalt Kinetics about their Hux Muzzle devices. They say they discontinued because they were not getting support from Huxworks. Which is sad..because now I have several 556 brakes and 2 30 cal brakes from them...and no hope of getting more..
Absolutely sucks. The Cobalt was amazing and I hate the Huxwrx Devices. Huxwrx just assumes you will never shoot unsuppressed. So when you do shoot without the suppressor you get a terrible experience.
I have 14.5 mid and a Ase Utra 5.56 QD flow thru can. Beside the locking system which might fail in few years, can is extremely quiet. Gun was shooting extremely well without a can, but on undergassed side. Now it is perfect
I spent a grand on TWO suppressors and I think they were worth it. Dead air Wolverine for my AK and a Surefire RC2 for my 11.5. That said I would have been just as happy with ONE YHM R9.
The same people who say flow through suppressors are too loud are perplexingly the same people who say it's pointless suppressing an AR because it's a supersonic bullet. Make it make sense
I have the last gen version the OSS HX-QD 556K and ive never had an issue with it getting stuck after 3000 rounds. I am so glad i bought that can. not having to tune the gun at all and no gas to the face made it a must have for a first suppressor you want to just work. The flow 5.56 is expensive though, even more than the older one i have.
Yes alot of the back pressure comes down the barrel but you can still do a ton with gas port size and adjustable gas blocks. If the"majority" of the back pressure came back through the barrel then you would be able to open up the gas port just enough to unlock the bolt. But that's not the case.
I'm sure there's a very sciencey reason why a greater volume of gas is not able to drive the bolt due to the system not being under high pressure and trying to act on a much larger surface area. But I'm too art brained to know what it is.
The Witt Machine cans do a great job of not gassing you out for the price. I have the Big Body 223 on a 7.5 AR pistol and it takes the noise down enough to not rattle my teeth while making the gun easier to shoot. It throws a huge fire ball out the front on the first shot, so buyer beware. When they run their special pricing I was able to get the suppressor for sub $300 making it less than $500 with tax stamp. It also makes 22lr super sonic almost hearing safe and subsonic 22lr just has a little pop and is super fun to shoot. When I put it on my 13.9 AR rifle it works amazingly and I don't get gassed out at all. Don't spend big bucks unless it is necessary, I run that can on both of those rifles all the time indoor and outdoor and it makes a huge difference.
I've shot the one Brassfacts has. It's impressively quiet but I don't think I'd describe it as a flow through/low backpressure design. Maybe slightly reduced, but it still gasses you out and it still needs tuning.
I have the Alleycat 556 on a 10.3 MK18 and an 11.5 URGI. As a lefty I think it's as good as the FLOW 556K for gas reduction and it's also significantly quieter
So, I have a question and a comment. My question is, what is that mag shoot you have on your rifle? I couldn't see who made it? First, I appreciate the time and energy you put into this it saves me a lot of time and energy. Most of my gas problems are fixed by having the right buffer(K spec H3 flat spring) and a downward gassing KAK carrier. My next level was getting a reflex from Otter Creek. It's amazing how much quieter my suppressor is and how much less gas there is. Tuning is very important and it makes a big difference. My gun now shoots like a 22 and almost sounds like a 22. I'm still going to wear ear protection because it's important. The reflex solved a lot of problems. My next level is getting the Griffin Armament carrier system, which is coming out. It actually delays opening the breech, which should help a lot with the last bit of gas. I'm just not sold on the expense of the flow through system and silence is my main goal. I've spent a bit of time on this and I hope this helps.
I have the issue with the can getting stuck on my muzzle devices as well. Carbon buildup and tight tolerances, but if you keep rotating the can there’s a “sweet spot” where it removes easier in the “feels stuck” position
I went with a CAT WB and convinced my friend to buy a Huxwrx 556k, the overall pleasantness of shooting 5.56 with them is notably higher than with traditionally baffled cans. My Polonium is still my favorite can for dedicated 5.56 performance up until you actually have to shoot the thing. If someone wants to use a traditional can I'd recommend coming to terms with the fact that the gun will need some degree of tuning. High flow designs don't need it. I can shoot my WB on any of my rifles without issues and the only cost is that the thing weighs significantly more than advertised and it's noticeably louder but it still does what a suppressor is supposed to do, even if my gear autism twitches that it's not as quiet as my Polonium. Tactical can's are for the bad guys, not for us, I think a lot of people reverse those priorities because they want to be cool to strangers and friends on the range rather than real world applications.
You probably got the mil version. They were shipping them out by accident for awhile. You can tell by a band engraved around it towards the bottom and the serials not being on the side but where you thread the can on. I know because I got one lol
@@hikeskool For the money I think they are incredibly difficult to beat. But best because quietest really doesn't do justice to all the elements that make a suppressor useful and a bunch of reddit would take issue with that. Lots of performance characteristics to evaluate, and everyone is gonna have different preferences on where they do best.
@@jshaw1503 Was thinking the same. I got a MIL MOB myself. Shit's a bit over a full pound with my tri-lug adapter installed...but hey, at least I really don't have to worry about overheating it on my SP5 😂
I have a Flow556 with an adjustable gas-block and a downward ported BCG and I send almost all gas out the suppressor or into the magazine. Such a change from the cancer cloud that I had before.
I just run an adjustable gas block with my 556K. Tuned the rifle to lock back on pud loaded .223 PMC Bronze, the weakest garbage I train with, then tossed the can on it. Shoots like a dream, and runs every type of ammo I care to throw in it without issue. Don't plan on touching the gas unless I change cans and deem it necessary again lol.
Pewscience member and early OSS adopter here. The factory HuxWrx mounts have a stupidly tight taper lockup with their cans once you heat the system up after firing. You can break the can loose with muscle after it's cooled down to ambient temperature. But I always just use the wrench it came with because I am inpatient. Also the Cobalt hux devices don't properly activate the annulus of Hux's FlowThrough tech. Those tiny little ports create additive shock reflections which actually increases your backpressure in the blast chamber which is counter productive to the entire point of using a Hux can. Cobalt discontinued their mounts for a reason.
Managed to get a Sico Velos With a free stamp and I love it, sounds good, great flash reduction, and hardly any gas felt in the face even shooting indoors.
If it wasn't for the NFA, semi-auto rifles would likely be integrally suppressed from the factory, and people would be arguing we DON'T need suppressors.
Taking account how supressors are already treated as ammo in europe that is not true. For bolt-guns that is not even option to no choose it. Semi-automatics specially ar-platform are in gray area in that regard. Personally i like to have supresor in my ar but like it is already discussed it is bit work to make it work in normal DI gun whitout adjustable gasport or getting flowtrough which is bit worse for sound reduction. Edit: It is bit more complicated than that in reality.
This cynicism is wrong: most weapon sales are to the military where they don't need to do NFA, but they don't have great integrated suppressor technology.
Integraly suppressed would mean the rifle would be heavier by default with no other option. Mean there's more shit to have to keep clean, more shit to go wrong (more money out of pocket to fix if something broke - baffle strikes/cracks or fractures). Nah. Not ideal
You should try the 556 flow TI next. It’s their full-size flow through option and I’ve got to say I love it. It boioioings the gas much better then I expected a flow through can to and is only about a hundred bucks more then the 556k. I was worried about longevity under sustained fire because it’s titanium but I’ve been hammering it with rounds and long strings of fire and it has been holding up fine. It’s also full auto rated and tested to the same specs as all the other cans they make so I wasn’t super worried about it. It comes in lighter then the K and is very much quieter in the environment I shoot in.
Idk exactly why or what is going on with my rifle setup compared to most people's, but I do not have these high-pressure blowback to the eyeballs issues a lot of people seem to have.
you bless us with Smudge segment in your last video, but you do not grant us with the privilege of a cat segment in this video? you truly are a merciless human being
It would be cool to see a camera down range showing the difference of how it lowers your signature. That might explain the benefit of can or no can. Nice vid
My ears still ring when shooting unsuppressed while wearing ear plugs and ear miffs at the same time when under cover. Using my Huxwrx takes the "boom" out and stops the ringing. No gas to the face with a stock S&W MP15 and runs with no issues. The end contours allows the suppressor cover to stay in place. I bought it mainly to save the hearing of my kids, and its definitely worth the money.
I would add that the Hux 762 Flow TI, which is the 30 Cal version of what you have was actually proven to be quieter in some other reviewers testing. Even on 556 because of the added diameter. That and it has the ability to be thrown on 30 rifles as well. The big negative I have with my Hucks scan is muzzle device availability. They are out of stock everywhere and when one pops up it’s like $300.
Yeah people are always talking shit about the boomy Flow 556 K but when you shoot it and get it in hand, it does amazingly well at providing you hearing protection for a tiny K can.
Hux has sales on the muzzle devices on their site all the time. Just sign up for alerts/emails and you can scoop them up for sub $75 often. Availability is also improving a lot now that the suppressor rush pre election and post fast ATF approvals has subsided a bit. Nothing was fucking in stock for a while there. Was a backorder / stock notification nightmare lol. Also, the new Flow 556Ti, which is the same size as the 762Ti, performs even better on 5.56. Right up at the top of PewScience charts. As an owner of the 556K and 762Ti...it's quite tempting.
@@JNOSNOW Most people that talk about it love comparing it to full sized cans too, ignoring it's K size...and they also love ignoring that Hux has full sized options with better sound performance as well. Shits so often so disengous it hurts.
Brilliant thumbnail- "Why would I worry about making my gun quieter but shoot this big I am over here flame out the front; let me watch the video". Brilliant Hop. Brilliant.😎
Let's be real, the lead issue in military is still going to happen with or without the high flow/low backpressure can thing. Though it does give them an additional fallback to claim that anybody's elevated lead levels are not service related and deny even more claims at the VA for them as a result.
I feel sory for you americans that cannot taste the fine suppressors made by MFT. They are the best at killing flash and they are very low back pressure. I strongly believe in them. And in the videos i have you can see very small puffs of smoke without any gas tunning because you tune the gas inside the core of the suppressor.
The one quirk I found on my OSS HXQD that was a VERY niche drawback, was specifically when shooting through it at night, using a PVS-30 and an IR light (in my case, a Surefire with Vampire light head), and there’s a brief “green out” through the scope, as the gasses exiting the front of the can reflect the IR light. Such a niche issue that it’s near negligible, since there’s very few time’s I’d have the light on while shooting through that.
Biggest upside I’ve found with a HUXWRX is that you don’t need really need to tune your rifle. I’m more of a GPR kinda guy though so alot of the short barrel stuff doesn’t apply BUT, that suppressor gets awful heavy at the end of a full length barrel after a while.
Hey message to the gun builders these aren't hard engineering problems to solve. Integral suppressors green laser pointers adapted to be IR with a front sight I would also add a piston. And one of those cool twist adjustable gas blocks
I got a Huxwrx Ventum 762 and yeah it's not super quiet but it's not bad either. Still can pop a few 5.56 without going deaf but I wouldn't recommend a mag dump. Honey Badger 300bo with subs is better and a 300bo bolt gun subs is pretty hearing safe. No/less gas to the face is why I got it.

@@snek9353 pewscience does say the MK18 is the worst case scenario and all the cans are tested on the same hosts. So it's a very fair comparison
So I know on my MK18 or 11.5 URGI with a Vltor A5H4 the at ear suppression is in fact better than the pewscience MK18 H2 combo
It's amazing how you make your sponsor as interesting as what your video is about. That's a gift. You definitely put thought into it, and it shows.
But that sweet VP-09 Muzzle Brake adds 4% accuracy and -6% recoil! /s
If you don't like it don't go to indoor ranges. That's your mistake, I refuse to use indoor ranges. In fact I almost never use an outdoor range and just use public land.
You're soft.
This is why you run some kind of QD mount with a brake, so you can take the can off and return the favor extra hard with a magdump as they are trying to pack up just to make a point before you leave.
Also this is why you don't go to indoor ranges whenever other options are available.

I have the Huxwrx 762 ti and like it a lot. As a southpaw I really don't want to be gassed in my eyes every time I pull the trigger.
I work at a gun shop and we sell a decent amount of the Huxwrx Flow. All of the customers that have bought them love them.
I just assumed the muzzle device wasn’t going to be available. I come here to contemplate the Platonic Ideal of a rifle, not actually build one.
There's no reason to read any early Greek philosophers like Plato because they have all been proven wrong.

US is way behind with suppressors because of the NFA
Everyone that actually shoots with his rifle will sooner or later move to some kind of flow-through or low backpressure design
Yea, but several countries in Europe also require the use of suppressors and some of them aren't made to last as long.

Let's all now freak out about how hop has a single bolt scope mount.... and begin.
I don't care what anybody says, I love those Vudu mounts.
Thanks Hop for talking me out of a suppressor and the tax stamp. BTW - Making fun of "Special Boy" Brock when he is having a seizure, just isn't cool.
I hope CAT sends you their WB or ODB cans to try out. I'd really enjoy hearing what you think of it.
I've shot the one Brassfacts has. It's impressively quiet but I don't think I'd describe it as a flow through/low backpressure design. Maybe slightly reduced, but it still gasses you out and it still needs tuning.

Who came up with the myth that traditional suppressors lessened recoil? I never understood how creating a more violent action lessens recoil....
Always wondered that myself lol
It should on a bolt action, or on a "tuned" host
Recoil is increased, but muzzle movement is decreased due to the big honking dildo screwed onto the end.
Reasoning is probably along the lines of "heavier = less felt recoil"
some dude was probably like "more weight means less recoil" which is sort of true but definitely not in this context

If it wasn't for the NFA, semi-auto rifles would likely be integrally suppressed from the factory, and people would be arguing we DON'T need suppressors.
Taking account how supressors are already treated as ammo in europe that is not true.
For bolt-guns that is not even option to no choose it. Semi-automatics specially ar-platform
are in gray area in that regard.
Personally i like to have supresor in my ar but like it is already discussed it is bit work to make it
work in normal DI gun whitout adjustable gasport or getting flowtrough which is bit worse
for sound reduction.
Edit: It is bit more complicated than that in reality.
This cynicism is wrong: most weapon sales are to the military where they don't need to do NFA, but they don't have great integrated suppressor technology.
I don't think I would want an integral suppressed AR. You're really stuck to that one design for the rest of its life.
Integraly suppressed would mean the rifle would be heavier by default with no other option. Mean there's more shit to have to keep clean, more shit to go wrong (more money out of pocket to fix if something broke - baffle strikes/cracks or fractures). Nah. Not ideal
Like air rifles?
You should try the 556 flow TI next. It’s their full-size flow through option and I’ve got to say I love it. It boioioings the gas much better then I expected a flow through can to and is only about a hundred bucks more then the 556k. I was worried about longevity under sustained fire because it’s titanium but I’ve been hammering it with rounds and long strings of fire and it has been holding up fine. It’s also full auto rated and tested to the same specs as all the other cans they make so I wasn’t super worried about it. It comes in lighter then the K and is very much quieter in the environment I shoot in.

Flowthroughs are literally car mufflers.
Thanks for the presentation
I feel sory for you americans that cannot taste the fine suppressors made by MFT. They are the best at killing flash and they are very low back pressure. I strongly believe in them. And in the videos i have you can see very small puffs of smoke without any gas tunning because you tune the gas inside the core of the suppressor.
Haha the ending is hilarious. I really like Hop’s cool guy attitude haha
😐
The B&T cans work pretty well and flows awesome. To me.
What am I supposed to do if I live in a miserable place where it's both hot and wet?
Get a window A/C unit
@ Seems like a lot of extra weight to add to my ruck but ok
I got a Huxwrx Ventum 762 and yeah it's not super quiet but it's not bad either. Still can pop a few 5.56 without going deaf but I wouldn't recommend a mag dump. Honey Badger 300bo with subs is better and a 300bo bolt gun subs is pretty hearing safe. No/less gas to the face is why I got it.
