Tweed Jacket Reviews: 2017 Kia Rio 1.0 T-GDi "3" - Lloyd Vehicle Consulting

- In this review, suitably attired, we go for a drive out in the Hampshire countryside to test a wonderful 2017 Kia Rio 1.0 T-GDi "3" and see how practical it is, what it is like to drive and what it is like to own. Be prepared for more in-jokes for fans of a certain long-running spy film franchise (as usual), references to Peter Serafinowicz's seminal spoof science series Look Around You, surprisingly hard door card plastics (again), slightly poor footage and sound in the driving section due to social distancing regulations, the absence of any reversing camera footage, surprisingly good fuel economy, slightly bewildering instruments, unexpected GoPro footage, an unco-operative seatbelt buckle storage solution and really very little of any consequence at all. Nothing untoward, then!

Well we’re no longer hungry like the wolf, sated by the return of The Tweed, impressive motor and great review too, thank you Joseph
Well Mr and Mrs Quirk, glad you enjoyed the reference! I hope you are able to get your hands on one of these as well, I think you would enjoy it. Glad you liked the review!
What a great birthday surprise sir. The tweed boss man himself is back on the screen!! And who ever did the intro and logo has done a great job, along with the great filming and editing. Keep up the great job, sir.
Yes sir, Mr Bill has done a fantastic job with this one. I was very impressed! We did forget to film a couple of things, but overall I am very pleased. A nice birthday surprise for you indeed.
I am so delighted that the "Tweed Jacket Reviews" are back! Just so well made and funny, terrific stuff!
Well sir, we have just booked in to film some more next month. I hope you enjoy those too!
Very enjoyable sir. Loved the Duran Duran references at the start and some fine appreciation of electrical substations as backdrop.
Looks like a lot of car for the money again and you can't argue with that warranty package.
Yes sir! It's a surprisingly quiet road, which is ideal for filming, the substation gives it a bit of a distinctive look. The Duran Duran joke is awful, but it had to be done. You are right, it is very well priced with an excellent warranty, and it drives surprisingly nicely too.
Good to see the tweed jacket again.Nice review Joseph.
Thank you, sir! It is good to be back.
Merry Christmas love the Channel ❤️
Thank you, Glenn! Hope you enjoyed the Christmas Special that we put up yesterday.
What a smashing little car and full of kit. I like it so much I might even contemplate replacing to old Pro_Ceed with one when it's time is up.
Yes, this one is highly recommended. I had forgotten just how comfortable and refined they were as well. Certainly a good potential replacement for the Pro_cee'd, but probably not for a while yet!
Welcome back, Tweed Jacket Reviews! 👍
Thank you, sir! It's been a while, but we are happy to be back.
Splendid Sir, I did enjoy the Duran Duran joke. Excellent Tweed review and a very well equipped car indeed
We aim to please, sir! I am surprised no one else has made that joke in a long time.
The Man in the Tweed Jacket has just proved unequivocally that Ford desperately needs to review its pricing strategy. This Man never jokes about his work.
On Top Form. The world has now been put to rights.
We aim to please, sir! Yes, despite being the UK's best seller, the Fiesta isn't the cheapest car these days. The Corsa F has the same issue, as I found out last year. "I never joke about my work, 007"!
@@lloydvehicleconsulting indeed. Nothing new, Fords have always been highly priced. I believe that the Mk2 and Mk3 Fiestas were more expensive than equivalent Peugeot 205s and Micras. Escorts were expensive too except for the run out models around 1997/1998 which were absolutely packed with kit and offered the 1.8 Zetec engine for the same price as the 1.6 Zetec. The difference is that today's Korean competition is top notch with up to the minute tech. Not the Hyundai X2, Kia Pride, Lada Samara or Skoda Favorit any more.
@@seancooke4127 , yes, the post 1998 Escorts were very cheap indeed. MG and SsangYong have taken the place of Kia and Hyundai at the lower end of the market (Chevrolet/Daewoo disappeared by 2015, of course), and I suppose Dacia occupies the place of Lada and Skoda. Fords may have higher list prices, but then again they are often heavily discounted, which can make up for it.
@@lloydvehicleconsulting indeed, Sir, but even Dacia has moved the budget game on. There are no longer any substandard vehicles out there. Even work vans are luxurious today.
@@seancooke4127 , yes, no longer the ancient 1.5 forbidden fuel engine or the Mark II Clio platform! Now it is some models with electrification and a Sandero has lane keeping assistance as an option...
Her name was Rio and she featured on the first tweed jacket review of 2021. Very nicely done sir. As always a very detailed and informative review. Does show what cracking value the Kia is over something like a Fiesta.
Glad you enjoyed the joke, sir! We certainly aim to please on Tweed Jacket Reviews. We do try to provide all the facts where we can. You are right, one of these or an MG3 have to be among my favourite cars of this type as they both drive well, have a long warranty, and represent a huge saving over a Fiesta.
Nice review! Clarkson Hammond & May eat your heart out.
I really like the Picanto and I may consider one as my next car. I bet the 1.0 turbo in one of those is a hoot to drive!
It is pretty good, sir! I would actually like to try one with the 118 bhp engine and a six speed gearbox. I think that would be quite fast. Glad you enjoyed it, thank you ever so much indeed again for watching!
Good looking design, plenty of room inside and a good boot.
Very peppy engine and stupendous equipment as standard on the 3 Trim level.
A bulletproof warranty on top makes the Kia Rio a no brainer as some say.
Very good cars, it is a shame that they are being taken off sale for the UK market. It makes a real difference to get one of these in "3", GT-Line or GT-Line S specification, they are much nicer than most of them you see.
Hi Joseph ,I do really like these and the Picanto's aswell , They remind me of the A class Mercedes from the side . I have driven an I-20 of this age and just found it ok to drive I hope to have ago in a Rio as I would consider buying one next or a Picanto.
Yes, it's one of the best options in the class, actually. The Fiesta is probably better to drive, but it's a moot point, as both of them are in the process of being discontinued, which is something of a shame. I have driven an i20 from around 2019, and the Rio is better to drive, in my opinion, although the cars are very similar underneath.
Where did you get the intro music from I'm sure I've heard it from some 80s car development promotional video. Nice jacket MR Lloyd, Harris Tweed?
This looks to be a good all round car. I love how Kia is making massive waves.
The music in the intro is from RUclips Audio Library as it is free to use in videos which are monetised. It's a track called June by Bobby Richards.
@@FuelPower
Interesting it's got that 80s vibe you would hear on some of the promotional stuff of the day,
Thanks for the info.
Mr Bill did well to get a copyright free (as far as RUclips is concerned) piece of music so that we didn't hit any issues with it. It's not a Harris Tweed Jacket, but it certainly is more than adequate for filming.
Must say I love Android Auto; Google maps is good, and using my apps like Tune in playing classical music whilst driving is phenomenal (this being a Honda CRV).
Great review!
Yes, Android Auto is brilliant. I use it all the time. Glad you enjoyed the video!
@@lloydvehicleconsulting I think I just suggested a vehicle to review! Do you have the Honda CRV in the UK? They usually have a good resale value here in the US. And I thoroughly enjoyed this review on this Kia!
@@frothe42 , yes, Planetauto have done two reviews on the current CR-V, funnily enough. Glad you enjoyed it!
Great review.
p.s. there's an old vid on youtube I think you'd like called 'The Future is in the Past - MS Paint Mockumentary' =)
Oh that sounds interesting, sir! I shall take a look at it. Glad you enjoyed this latest episode of Tweed Jacket Reviews!
Excellent Review Mr Lloyd, always impressed with Kia and I think I would take one of these over a fiesta, more for the warrenty, I can not believe a Base Fiesta is £16000!
That's insane!
You could get a top spec Granada Scorpio in 1987 for that give or take a little. I'm sure MR Lloyd will give an exact price when new.
@@paulie-Gualtieri. just went on the ford website recommended on the road price for a Fiesta £16385.....
@@scottishcarenthusiastsandtrain
It's nuts well everything is nuts nowadays. I missed the 90s
Yes, I checked the prices that morning just to make sure, and it looks like I was right! The Kia is a bargain compared with a Fiesta, not that the latter is a bad car at all. Glad you enjoyed the video, Mr Watters!
Yes, the base model Fiesta is over £3,000 more than a top level MG3, for example.
