Love our Avidyne at our school. The features it has are great, especially stuff like the airport data page so you can just tap the comms channels you need and it auto switches the secondary frequency to them.
I LOVE the tail on the Save the 310 plane. What a terrific paint job to attract kids and adults to the career of Flying Planes.
Kevin, of RG Aero at pompano Beach is amazing! Glad he got your 540 fixed. I put an IFD 550 in my 1947 v tail bonanza. Found it as an avionics shops demo, 1 year old, 4 year factory warranty for $11,500😳. About half price! You’ll love the 540👍🏻

It's nice to see you donate a 310 to an A&P school. I had the chance to work on one while I was in school, which taught me how to address electrical problems in an upside-down position, using a mirror held in my teeth. I spent many hours inverted in fixed-wing aircraft for inspections and repairs. These days, I work on helicopters, so those acrobatics aren't as common. Nevertheless, seeing him go inverted in the seat brings back memories.

As I look into upgrading the avionics in an old Stinson, Avidyne is definitely on the wish list. I may wind up with a used unit from another company, but if finances allow, a nice new Avidyne would wonderful.
From time to time we have some used ones as people update from an IFD540 to an IFD550. Check with your dealer.

If it was a power issue that caused it might think of more sensitive breaker for fluxuations. Some of these newer electronics has a safe feature. An interrupt causes it to shut down permentently. Remove electric power for about 15 secends then plug it back in to restore operations.

Hi Jimmy, I didn't go through all the comments down below, but there appears to be a bit of a right side wheel wobble on the Silver bullet. I don't know if it's an issue, but you can see it wobbling at the 4:00 minute mark in this video. The left side looks to be OK. Love all your videos, and cheers to you, from Steve.

Unexpected systems failure...never happens in aviation. Totally reliable. Last the lifetime of the aircraft...guaranteed! Two days ago I worked a pressurization fault, we did all the required troubleshooting and found nothing in error. One of the other techs felt the outflow valve was moving eratacally, I couldn't see it and I'm taller and had a better view on the exit side and the aircraft's BIT system didn't see it. So we ordered a replacement valve and installed it. I feel the pain of your tech replacing the component in the 310. Like any well engineered LRU, to get to the valve you need to be two feet tall and twelve inches wide. Tested exactly the same, now we have to wait for ops to fly and buy off on the fix.

Man I worked on the c141 B model a much bigger aircraft but same dang mechanic positioning required. Honestly I don’t miss it. I have more scars on my body than Rambo. That mess is for the young guys.
$15,000 for a GPS, That much for a GPS, that would hurt, it would have to make tea, tell horoscopes and know the next winning numbers for the lottery.

Do I see a DC2 parked in the background? I believe there is/was one in Santa Monica. The standard DC2 had a flat sided fuselage (only one seat each side of the aisle), and a pair of headlights at the nose.

Aviation is very expensive. If you burned-up your GPS and just replaced it with another one without knowing why the first one burned-up, the replacement may just flame-out the same way the first one did.......
They fixed the voltage regulator before installing a new one.

Is it possible one of your new alternators put out too much voltage due to a bad regulator and FRIED the GPS ? Certainly on take off your engine rpm's are the highest. If you set it too high, it will over voltage. I would think setting it to 13.8 vdc with a load like landing lights on would work

Abort takeoff due to radio failure?!? I've lost my radios (and all other comms) on rotation (loose wire!) and didn't think it was a big deal. Just entered the pattern and looked for the light gun. KBED.
Jimmy this is just one man's opinion but that tail on the 310 of Mighty Mouse would look so cool on the Silver Bullet but that's just me Because I grow up watching that show and the 310 would live on thru the Silver Bullet even if it is at the tail. 😂

Question that arises…why abort a takeoff just because your GPS craps out? Would be safer imo to take it around the pattern then land. High speed RTO’s are killers.
