  • Congo Rebels (December 2000) - Rebel forces perpetuate conflict in the DRC, in a seemingly never-ending tussle for power. International playboy Jean-Paul Bemba heads the MLC, one influential group.
    Subscribe to Journeyman here: ruclips.net/user/subscription_c...
    At Bunya, headquarters of the RCD/ML rebels, Ugandan instructors train young rebels like fourteen-year-old Gentil. Uganda and Rwanda support three rebel groups who now control half the country. Jean-Paul Bemba heads the MLC, the Movement for the Liberation of Congo. He has vast business interests in Europe and has his HQ alongside one of Mobutu's extravagant palaces. Some accuse Bemba of being a front for business interests in the region, but he remains Congo's most popular rebel.

    Venturing to be a rebel leader must be a profitable one in the Congo, what a cursed land. Lumumba's spirit keeps haunting them.

    spoilers (from 2000): none of the rebels will take congo. Kabila will die soon and the presidency passes to his son (Kabila Junior). Bemba will be jailed by ICC and afterward he will be integrated in the government by the president who will replace kabila Junior.
    All of the above have happened by 2023:

    What had changed in the perpetual war zones of eastern DRC since 5 years ago? Or since 1959? Or since Portuguese (or Belgian, or UN) plundering started in the 1400s? The only constants are conflict mineral exploitation, murder and large scale displacement, - while consumers of electronic products in the East and the West look away?

      It's true that they never shot down any migs but I think a few helicopters were destroyed but not really in the MLC area. Mostly Rwandan helis were shot down by the ZDF but im sure other forces lost aircraft as well.

    • @uraninite8151
      @uraninite8151 3 года назад +1

      Bemba wasnt so weak they destroyed the entire North Korean trained river force on the Ubangi. They could have captured Kinshasa but the Ugandans stopped Bemba from doing so because of US pressure. The MLC wasn't weak they were one of the groups to make major territorial gains after 1999. The Rwandans did too but not like the MLC. They also had the backing of the UPDF and they were well equipped and had Mi 24s.

    • @mhlangamlungisi5108

      @@uraninite8151 really I doubt he had any MI 24s at all he never had them. He took advantage of a lull on troop movements amid the ceasefire in 1999 to grab territory where there was no armed presence at all and then claimed to be fighting. Wamba Dia Wamba and his Rwandan mates were waging a very effective war in the South with American dollars and aid. If they had MI24 they wouldnt brag about that 4 barrel shooting diwn Migs and helicopter gunships.
