Scotty, my nephew bought an 08 Saturn and the fan on the radiator isn't working and the radiator leaks, what cheap fix can he do?

@@tonymontana3742 you can get leak stop but you can get a new radiator for less than $100 now, it's you best option to change it, same for the fan when you're changing it

I have had 8 Toyota’s since 1980, no problems with any of them. On one Camry I had he timing belt changed at 300 km and the mechanic said the old belt was still as good as the new.

I think people severely underestimate the capability of cross-overs. I have a 2008 FWD RAV4 and I spend quite a bit of time outdoors, and I've never gotten stuck or damaged anything off-road. Of course, if you want to drive up a mountain out west, a traditional 4x4 will be a better choice, but if you're a normal camper/hiker/hunter/fisherman/mountain-biker you'll be just fine in a RAV4.

I must say, I have this car and I do LOVE it. Feels like a genuine toyota, reliable, sturdy, and fun to drive. I've had 4-runners, sequoias, highlanders, and even a land cruiser and my RAV4 goes right along with hoe reliable they all still are. Still have 2 4-runners and the land cruiser and we are a full toyota family.

This is the most formidable overlanding vehicle I’ve ever owned. I sold off all my Tundra accessories and decked out my RAV4 and now use this to overland with. It’s more capable and does far more than a truck can do. I’ve driven it 4800 miles so far since buying new in December and am currently in Utah on trip from Texas for two weeks.

I will also buy a cheap used reliable car , spend the rest of my money on traveling around the world and drive all my dream cars by renting them.

@@danielmeador1991 might wanna show your dealer the VIN. An engine leaking coolant or oil because of a manufacturing defect might risk stalling the engine if it was part of that production batch. But if yours was of the later batch, should be OK.
This was news several months ago, but if the dealer was responsible, they should have already serviced an unsold RAV4 by now.
Also, Brian, what trim level and options did you get?

Welcome to the RAV4 family. Just purchased one myself and absolutely L❤VE it. The new RAV is killing the CRV in sales.
I like the older style RAV when the full size spare tire was mounted on the outside and you had that extra space under the rear storage area...made it great for a camping family. Toyota needs to bring back the 3.5 V6 in the RAV's
This guy would definitely be a buddy of mine if I knew him lol. He cracks me up but knows exactly what he's talking about.
The RAV 4 has come a long way. Those early ones had good engines and transmissions but they were small and had some handling problems. This is about 1000% better. I would still go for a 4 Runner but I might be persuaded to take a closer look at one of these.
Scotty, I want to thank you for good advice from the point of view of a mechanic. I've been searching for a reliable compact SUV with AWD (I'm a hospital employee in Maine, I have to be able to drive to work in any icy or snowy conditions), and today I purchased a 2017 Rav4 XLE thank in part to information from several of your videos.

@@ir0n2541 yeah, it's a bit noisier than I would was hoping, especially since I do a lot of long drives. For that, I'm thinking of moving to the prime later this year

But if you rent cars, you can use them to travel, and you don't really care about their reliability since you're not responsible for repairs. And you'll save even more money by not buying extra cars you don't need. Or the opposite. I think in general, people who rent luxury cars don't really care about money.

I knew a guy who would buy the cheapest damn car he could find that ran. Averaged 2 to 3 cars a YEAR. Averaged out he Usually only spent 100$ a month on cars.

You weren't wrong about Toyota 2019 and 2020 Toyota RAV4 and RAV4 hybrid have a recall for faulty lower arm suspension
@@leonardoaruca1 2019 RAV4 hybrid XSE owner... No recalls or TSBs on mine here in Canada. Also no fuel tanks filling issues as reported by some American built models.
I had RAV4 2018, then I traded it in for 2020 model. The drives are not the most comfortable.. you do get noticeable cabin noise. But if you can live with that, it’s a beauty.. with all the sensors, driving assists, space and road presence.. I got the premium XLE trim and would highly recommend this car if you are looking for one.
Was your 2018 more comfortable? And in comparison, was the 2018's cabin less noisy?
Wish I knew about this one before I pulled the plug on the 2019 Adventure model. Love my car but this one with those wheels and tires is dope. Great choice Scotty✌🏽
I live in Pakistan and bought a JDM Toyota Harrier 2014 17k kilometers from Japan in 2015....it's a hybrid and does 60+km or 40+ miles to an American gallon.... not once, have I needed to go to an excellent mechanic like yourself......just maintainence stuff like oil and filter change.....I've owned nothing but Toyotas and just one Honda in the 50 years of car ownership....I entirely concur with your assessment of Japanese cars, specially Toyotas....
I’d much rather have a normally aspirated 2.5 than a smaller engine with a turbocharger on it. This TRD sounds pretty good.

Hardly, doesn't excel in any way not even reliability. Toyota had a chance with the new model to leap all competition instead they pulled an average at best vehicle.
Selling my Forester for one! No way I want to pay $7500 - $8000 for a Subaru CVT if it breaks... and they DO break!
Been a fan of your channel for a few years, and I just traded in my Jeep Grand Cherokee for a 2020 RAV4 XSE Hybrid. I’m excited, still in shock a little, but feeling good about my switch.

I recently bought the Rav4 TRD 2021 new in white for my wife and we absolutely love it. It is a 29.1 mpg in a utility vehicle, it is really great on gas and best as a cross country camping vehicle.

My main gripe with these smaller SUV’s was the 1500lbs towing capacity, the same as my Honda Civic. 3500lbs is perfect for myself and the average person needs. I’m definitely going to have to check one of these out. Thanks for the review Scotty!
I had a 1997 Toy RAV4 4WD with the 4cyl and manual trans. I loved it. It drove as easy as an automatic. It drove so well I never HAD to use the 4WD. I did take it offroad in 4WD every month to lube the transaxle

I would gather more opinions if you are really into answers. Just my humble opinion.
I was looking at one of these today. It appears, per Scotty, they have the bugs worked out if the 8 speed transmission. Much better mileage than the Tacoma and the Sienna. It will make a decent commuting car with utility.
Just bought a regular rav4. It is a very nice car for the money. Stands to be the best value and quality in the class

Never seen one of these in the wild, and I live on the edge of the wild, 11,000+ peak in my back yard. This thing looks great. We run an MDX and a CR-V. I like the CR-V 2nd gen. Hate later gens. This Rav 4 looks great. The CR-V can handle off road slightly better than a civic... but... its not an off road vehicle. Wish they did this with the CR-V!

In the 2003 Camry, the antenna was built into the rear windshield. Now they put that little piece on the roof

Thanks scotty. However what i would like to know concerning this new Rav4 TRD is a few things: 1 , is the Power steering Electrical and how is the unit built? is it Plastic or Metal? Is it in a good location? What about the oil filter ? is it a canister type or regular screw on. How easy is it to service and say change a lightbulb etc. You mentioned special tyres, How expensive are they? Does it have a transmission dipstick to check oil levels or do you need a computer etc. The usual things you would tell us to check for when purchasing a vehicle since we don't want to spend bad money.

@Immortal yes non turbo and fuel delivery system uses the D4-S system.
Someone in my neighborhood has one in the same color scheme and it catches my eye every time I see it. I've been a Honda owner for over 30 years, but that RAV4 ....

My only complaint after renting a RAV4 was it handled poorly in crosswinds which we get a lot of in the Midwest

I just bought a 2019 AWD Rav4. Its by far my favorite vehicle ever owned.
Do you know if the AWD will make it more expensive in the long run? I heard AWDs have more parts that can break that are expensive.. maybe not with toyotas?
@@ZupE891 I spent around 3 months researching vehicles before i made my decision. I spoke to mechanics, dealerships, parts store employees, friends/family, online reviews etc etc. The main thing i look for is the overall reliability, and cost of parts. EVERYONE i spoke to had the same input. The Toyota Rav4, and the Toyota Tucoma, etc, will keep running until you hate it lol. They all shared the same opinion on the AWD models. Unless you are driving on crazy terrain, or just beating the mess out of the vehicle on a regular basis, the AWD system should and will last the life of the vehicle. Toyota really does make solid reliable vehicles. The second part of my research was on parts, and cost. There are always parts you will need to replace, and you can choose regular or high end parts. This is a list of "current" costs should i need parts.
Front Break pads - $21 - $41.
Front rotors - $31 - $68.
Rear Break pads - $30 - $55.
Rear Rotors - $31 - $43.
Tie Rod ends - $16 - $20.
Starter - $89 - $120.
Alternator - $75 - $125.
Oil filter - $5 - $8.
Complete Front Left Strut - $176.
Complete Front Right strut. $176.
Obviously you can find much more expensive high end parts, but im just quoting your standard replacement options. None of which break the bank if needed. Now if by some chance the transmission did go bad, i was lucky enough to get 3 years full coverage. They would replace it at no cost. If i were to buy a new transmission myself, it would be around $1000 to get one, which still isnt that bad for a 2019. I dont know if any of this info helps in anyway. For me, the results of all my research, convinced me that buying a toyota was the better option. Not to mention i not only live in a heavy snow area, but live right in the middle of a snow belt. Lake effect snow POUNDS my town every year. The AWD is a life savor for sure.

Very happy with my 2019 Rav4.
I have had 6 Subarus. I currently have a 2017 Forester with 80K miles. It has Subaru's CPO 100K mile powertrain warranty which is good as Subaru charges $7500 - $8000 for their CVT!!! I will be selling soon to buy this RAV4 TRD. I have taken this RAV4 TRD off road in the mud and some steep loose dirt ATV trails. It performed VERY well!

To be honest, this is the cleanest car Scotty reviewed.
Looks similar to my Forester that also has rubber mats everywhere and an adjustable arm rest and averages 28mpg.
It is Toyota's response to Forester. Still Subaru has a better all-wheel drive.

I bought a rav4 hybrid new in 2016. In 2017 my cousin and became stuck in a muddy bog above his house in the mountains south of his property. I switched to Sport Mode and we pulled out slowly and cleared the boggy spot easily.
Built in Canada! Cambridge Ontario and Woodstock Ontario.
That is one of the highest rated car plants in the world.

If you look at the lateral treads you will see that the tread spacing varies from one tread to the next so the "chunks of rubber" are not the same width. It doesn't generate consistent sound waves as a result.

Love the new RAV4. Of course I am a Toyota guy. Former Toyota Master Diagnostic Technician, and own a 2001 Camry LE 4, a 2003 Lexus RX300 and a 2011 Tacoma TRD Off Road double cab. But I do have a 1998 Honda Shadow Aero 1100 motorcycle. I recommend Toyota to EVERYONE! One of my kids has a 2016 Kia Soul 1.6. Actually a good little car. The other 2 kids have 3 Subarus...Bless their hearts!

Love my 19 Rav4! 25$ to fill up, rides like a cloud and looks great. I do recommend adding AMSOIL 0w-16 which provides better protection and the engine sounds quieter. God bless
Have they fixed the fuel pump issue on all of these, and the gas tank issues on the hybrid? Once they fix those issues I would highly consider one.
Just bought a 2019 Rav 4 Adventure with 7000 miles on it in ruby flare pearl. I have a 2003 Camry XLE sitting in the drive way with 152,000 on it runs as good as the day I bought it and a 2010 Accord with 81,000. I've had Mazdas, Hondas and Toyotas both cars & trucks.
Looked at a CRV Touring with 13,000 on it but the gasoline in the oil problem with their turbo engines was too worrisome. So far we really like the Rav 4 it's appointed nicely & really like the way it drives and handles.
