These are great. I just bought a wheel for the family for X-mas, and have been on RUclips for info & inspiration. Your channel is one of the better ones I've come across. Thanks for sharing your work and knowledge. 👍
Thank you so much Glenn! I'm truly glad these videos are helping. I hope you and your family get a lot of enjoyment from your wheel. Pottery is a very rewarding practice.
Okay guys, it's going to be several days before I have the texture rolls fired, so I decided to go ahead and release this video on how to make them. By Oct. 3, 2015 I'll post a video demonstrating the textures they generate when used. Thanks for your patience! Hope you enjoy! Shares are appreciated. :)
Very, very inspirational! I tend to get bogged down when making stamps, but these techniques really speed up the process and get those stamps/rolls ready to use. Love the sleeping dog in the background too- is that a heated bed? Lucky her! Thank you - my imagination is really perking along now..
M.J. J. Yay! I'm glad you are revved up to make some rollers! 😃 Thank you for your nice note. I've used these rollers a lot, & they were definitely worth making for me. If you like using stamps I bet you'll love the rollers. You know, the doggie bed isn't heated, but I keep my studio comfy. I love it that my dog likes to hang out with me while I work. My second dog has a lot of anxiety and sadly doesn't hang out with me in the studio. I hope your rollers turn out great!
thanks for sharing how to make and some lovely ways to make marks, as a side note have you done any video on your totem pole construction, its something i would like to do, but have no real idea how to start,
Lol I saw your dog move only once, was starting to think perhaps he was a stuffed animal. 😅😂 By the way cool as texture rolls, I guess your dog steels the show often hehe
These are great, but one thing strikes me about them - they're concave. When you press them against a surface to mark it, would it not leave a possibly unwanted indent in your piece? Would making roller stamps that are convex be somewhat better? Or even just flat? I know they're quick and cheap to make, but I think I'd rather make some flexible texture strips from latex (cheaper) or even silicone (more resiliant but more expensive) so I could follow the curve of a piece and only apply pressure where I wanted it to, and control how deep it went. Just a thought. :) Sometimes I do my best thinking early of a morning while still half asleep, lol! (wakefulness is involuntary. Next door dog woke me up)
Here's a link to the video of how they work & the textures they produce. There are practically unlimited ways to make stamps! ruclips.net/video/gsAMwsUVZhI/видео.html
Hi! could you please tell me what mechanism is the one showed at 1.58 for trimming clay? Is something you attached to your wheel or you bought in this way? here in italy doesn't exist nothing like that! tanks
Hello, it is a tool called a Giffin Grip. It attaches to the wheel, and you can take it on and off when you need it. I'm not sure if you can order them in Italy. Www.giffingrip.com I hope you & your loved ones are well. ❤
I made mine 2.5 - 2.75 inches across and 0.75 inches thick with the centers trimmed a bit thinner for gripping. You can do a wider diameter but I find them a little clumsier to hold. Hope that helps!
hi Angie! you could roll out a big log and cut 1 inch wide pucks or cookies off then bevel the edges (roll on an angle at soft leather hard) and texture. I think it would work well. if you want a center grip, maybe just pinch the middle at soft leather hard. if you try it let me know how it goes my friend! :)
I love revisiting your videos. Kind of miss the pottery videos

Genius!!!!
Great method! So these wheels are not too thick for firing?
Nope! No problem at all. Just let them reach bone dry before you fire.
wanderfull very helpful for me - thank you!
I'm so glad you found it helpful! :)
