Everyone’s favorite retro rock band, Under the Streetlamp, delivers an electrifying evening of classic hits from the American Radio Songbook, bringing their unique blend of tight harmonies and slick dance moves to your favorite old time Rock ‘n’ Roll, Doo-Wop and Motown hits. The group was founded by leading cast members of the Tony Award-winning sensation JERSEY BOYS. When their run in that show ended, they formed Under the Streetlamp as a musical celebration. The guys have performed in over a dozen shows on Broadway and have performed all over the world in countless other shows including: 42nd STREET, FORBIDDEN BROADWAY, RENT, AMERICAN IDIOT, GOOD VIBRATIONS: The Beach Boys Musical and THE BOOK OF MORMON. As a lifelong Del Shannon fan, I was a bit doubtful when I clicked on this. I was pleasantly surprised -- pretty good! Most covers are straight-up imitations, while this treatment was different and interesting. Edit: the choreography of the guys singing harmony is brilliant. These guys are really polished performers. 2nd Edit after 4 months: I must have been in a bad mood when I said this was "pretty good". If it was only "pretty good" I wouldn't be rewatching it about once a week, and find it just as fascinating and enjoyable as the first time.

I personally hear this as the song to play in an old western starring Clint Eastwood. Seems like a Cowboys theme and it works amazingly well

A nice Doo Wop version of Runaway. It's sad that Del isn't no longer around, if he'd be alive today perhaps he'd be enjoying the fruits of his labors. These individuals did an awesome job with this cover version.

Very well done. I was a little worried they may have butchered an iconic song from my childhood. But this version is true to the era. Del had an amazing voice and not an easy song for anyone following in his large footsteps.
Thanks so much. This is Brandon who sings lead on it. I literally learned to sing falsetto covering this song when I was about 19 years old. I played drums and sang it in my dad's band in Charleston, SC.

@@understreetlamp that's true when you do your own arrangement in a song. When someone covers someone else's material especially a song, you would have to make it your own. It can't sound entirely like the original. We get from where you're coming from.

I'm a dyed-in-the-wool, lifelong Del fan and will only grudgingly accord any merit to alternative versions of this wonderful song. That said, I enjoyed this version very much indeed, so congratulations on a wonderful effort and I'll be following other material by this group. I'm sure that a similar treatment could be given to many of Del's other material - with great success.
