Balls Deep Just saying it doesn't share the features that define the RS3. It should be called A3-GT. The could have made an RS3 by modifying an actual RS3 and make it able to withstand a race.
Really nice article enjoyed very much and also what chimed with me is the bit about understeer. I was taught to drive Quattro and Fast front wheel drive in a totally different way to a RWD car and it works. Particularly in a very powerful AWD car, just a different way to utilize the grip, set it up properly in the corners and you can get in the power so early its intoxicating in an RS3/4 or 6 British motoring journalists generally have no idea how to drive these, they get in and do thier RWD AMG or BMW routine, oversteer and opposite lock which simply doesn't work with fast AWD's then they complain about understeer its pathetic! The LMS is such a brilliant looking car it would be great if Audi were to adopt this as an road going RS3 competition or plus I'd be first on the waiting list.
Brian Makse I know Roy and Pierre very well. They’re great people! Favorite part about the TCR cars is when they bunch up. 3, 4, 5 or more fighting on track. Pure entertainment to watch!
Brian. First time viewer. Wonder if you can explain something to me? “Understeer is caused by one thing, and one thing only. The driver“ I currently own both an Audi And my wife owns a BMW. If you take the driver out of the equation on those two cars, as in on a skid pad. At the limits, my Audi will understeer, and her BMW will oversteer. It doesn’t matter what you do, it doesn’t matter which driver is in the car, at the limits of turning G’s, the BMW oversteers, and the Audi understeers. Every time no exceptions. So I don’t see how your statement that understeer is always caused by the driver, is accurate. I will agree that the driver is more often than not the issue, but the reality is, vehicle design does play a part and there are vehicles, such as Audis, that are more prone to understeer than other vehicles. And there are vehicles, like most BMWs, that almost never understeer. (Driver mistakes not withstanding)
This video is a an example. Here Michael Schumacher (sp?) is the Stig, and he is showing issues with audi understeer. ruclips.net/video/DaZExdTHHjY/видео.html
Yeah I liked the "no BS from a racing driver" approach and this kinda ruined it for me. Of course we all know that understeer or oversteer require driver inputs, but some (most OEM) cars have WAY more of a tendency to understeer at the limit while others not as much. The car, its design and setup have a huge influence on behaviour at the limit and making pithy oversimplifications like that are jarring in otherwise sensible commentary. I've oversteered Subarus and got Corvettes to understeer but in both cases it required extraordinary effort (or stupidity) to do so, whereas it's extremely easy to do the reverse.
Jarring is my point. Automotive media has been spoonfeeding this nonsense for decades and won't be party to it. If you want to learn something, then I'm all game.
Glad to hear you know how to properly pronounce Mosport. Love making the trip up there every summer from Buffalo for the IMSA events. Fantastic track, always a great time.
Awesome video Brian. It would be crazy if you could do a side-by-side for the rest of the TCR class of cars. Its definitely become one of my favorite classes to watch in racing overall. Doesn't hurt that all the cars in it are more relatable than say a V10 R8 or a Mclaren GT car...these are cars most anyone can buy today. Anyway, Realtime Racing should let you drive their TCR Type R!!!
Thanks! We'll see what we can do with TCRs. Personally, I'd love to drive them all and the TCRs seem awesome. Next up is the Compass Racing 570S GT4, but have to wrangle a road car, which is proving a bit challenging.
They are great if you are not going for massive hp numbers or plan on dragging the car every week. Mits dual clutch is lightning fast and was ahead of its time in 2008 when they came out. Many companies especially European companies have excellent dual clutch cars now a days but Mitsu offered something special in a time manual cars ruled the streets
Kinda lame they call it an RS3. A3 makes more sense. I was expecting a carbon hood, but it's just the steel one with a hole whacked in it lol. I'd like to get the insert though. Do they sell the body panels? (and the suspension bits for that matter). More importantly, how can I get that TCU tune?
It's built to a price point and carbon bits are $$$ to replace. Fenders are knocked off regularly, just watch any Continental or PWC race. You definitely can't buy this stuff unless you have one of these cars. The car uses the same ECU as the road cars, but I suspect that the tune is worthless on a road car. Better off going to a respected tuner.
I have a Genesis coupe 3.8 ult now and the Audi RS3 will be my next car. I didn't know there were people out there in the car world still pronouncing Hy-un-dai wrong lol
I know you are very talented hence your accomplishements. Your videos are also well put together. Maybe be a bit more humble about yourself in the future. But who am I, right?? Haha i came here for the RS3 initially. My favorite car out right now. I drive an SST Evo
I was thinking the same but then I got it. While S stands for Sport, RS stands for RennSport that stands for racing/motor racing. Given that this is the for all intends and purposes a racing version of the A3 it actually makes sense.
Brian Makse that’s simply not how it works. Ya, grip increases as your speed increases, but there’s no situation where you’ll slide because you’re going too slow through a corner for the aero to work.
Brian Makse nah I’m good. I’m an aerospace engineer. I just understand physics. Not sure why you’re arguing with me about this. This is a well known fact. Watch Kyle engineers video if you don’t agree
So cool to see you race! Now I want to test drive the RS3
It's great, so much fun.
Launch control is the best part in the RS3.
More video please. This channel is excellent.
Thanks! Tell your friends! More subscribers and views will help us turn out more pieces like this.
if what's defines an RS3 is the 5 cylinder engine and the Quattro drivetrain... That's just a wide A3😅
Lautaro Hunzicker why would they make a race car you can’t race?
Balls Deep Just saying it doesn't share the features that define the RS3. It should be called A3-GT. The could have made an RS3 by modifying an actual RS3 and make it able to withstand a race.
Lautaro Hunzicker why would they call it an a3 just because it has a 4 cylinder and fwd? It’s a purpose built race car.
Rs3 is a understeery mess this race car is way better
@@lautarohunzicker then what would a 5cyl AWD RS3 race car compete in?

I remember sitting in this car at Daytona when Roy and Pierre first got it. Such a fascinating car! I just got the road version in Daytona Grey!
Love this car and how freaking easy it is to drive quickly. The folks who race these things are doing something really special.

And then later in the video, Brian goes on to describe various cars' balance as being more or less "loose" (=oversteery) depending on setup...

I hope I know how to pronounce it correctly. I’ve been racing there since the early ‘90s.
I see you’ve loss some weight since last year. Keep up the good work!
Thanks! It's an ongoing project.

When has launch control ever been lame?!?
Forever.
Absolutely beautiful

Rs3 doenst have a steel hood it has aluminum hood and I hardly believe the lms version has a steel hood unless it's part of regulations....
Ismet Hasanovich you're correct it certainly does not
you are so humble

Great video.
Looking to move up to an RS3 from an STI. What other cars do you think are in the same price/performance ballpark as the RS3?
TTS or S5 coupe

So, you’re saying my Anglicized pronunciation doesn’t match your Anglicized pronunciation of a Korean word?
Same engine on my s3, interesting, i follow ❤🤘🙂🤙
Appreciate it!
Nice content.
Thanks.
Can I purchase the RS3 LMS TCR and drive it on the street?
LOL, no. Great idea, though.

What’s SST?
2017 audi a3 race car have the 4cyl due to regulations
Homologation, not regulations. TCR homologation requires two litre turbo engines.
Wow
Thats one awesome car
Please Santa
Well was my dreamcar ,bought a alfa guilia qv. :p maybe in a year i switch.
Correction we don’t buy wagons in North America. We buy shit tons of hatches though
I own it and the seats aren’t that comfortable after a while 😂😂😂😂
Yeah, all race car seats are compromised.
This is a A3
thats not an RS3 its an A3 tunned to race
R3 would have been a mint name for this
How is launch control lame?
It takes the driver out of the equation. Any chump can push buttons and step on pedals.
It has more relevance to the S3 being that it’s a 4cly
They call it an RS 3, hence this comparison. It's closer to a GTI, to be fair.
I was thinking the same but then I got it. While S stands for Sport, RS stands for RennSport that stands for racing/motor racing. Given that this is the for all intends and purposes a racing version of the A3 it actually makes sense.
