Real Madrid just beat Manchester City on penalties in the Champions League quarterfinal. Real Madrid's defense was near perfect and they were happy to sit back and take the match to Penalties.

Was Manchester City unlucky to lose to Real Madrid?
@@dhirajkh5444yeah. The Defense of Madrid was almost perfect. Only that one mistake, they could've easily done the job in 90 minutes if it wasn't for that mistake by Rüdiger. But everyone makes mistakes sometimes, besides that, Rüdiger was insanely good in the entire game
Yes, unlucky to have KDB, FODEN who missed the sitters, Silva who looked like an idiot in penalties and on the other hand LORD LUCAS VAZQUEZ who was juggling the ball before this intense penalty ....Madrid were lucky for not having NO 9, CBs for almost a season, CDM, 1st GK...Please add if we missed anything...
No. I believe City was VERY lucky to draw the fist leg 3-3 with xG of less than 1. They were veeery lucky first leg, and second leg they just weren't. Looking at both legs, I think it's clear that Real were the better team.
@@amerhodzic6036 yeah. People think Madrid wasn't the better team because they don't know or don't understand that Defending is part of the game.
Yeah, City were lucky that they didn't lose the first leg. Because the Bangers they scored aren't going into the goal every day you try such goals. Considering both legs, I agree with you, Madrid was the better team
@@DeependraRasal I think such an attempt (shooting the pen in the middle) by Bernardo is a useful, but only if you score. If the GK stays in the middle, knowing that you want to shoot in the middle, the one shooting the pen looks like an idiot tbh. Also, I think Lunin played an incredible match
Madrid actually dominated City, which is even funnier. No main GK, two main CB with ACL injury, no defensive midfielder and no starting striker yet guys over 30 like Carvajal, Nacho and Rüdiger were the ones keeping Grealish, Foden, Silva and Haaland silent for almost the entire game. City generated an embarassing 2.7 xG in 33 shots over 120 minutes. RM forced City wide all game and City despite passing the ball a thousand times, did not know how to penetrate into the box. Doku was the only one who truly made the difference and created clear cut chances that were not solely influenced by mistakes from defenders. Even Henry said that City barely had clear cut chances. They were mostly generated from small mistakes by Madrid. I remember Man City parking the bus against Atleti after being up a goal and no one complained. Man City scored the same amount of goals as Real Madrid over both legs. Madrid put up a 90s Italian defensive masterclass. They won the pen shootout because of Rüdiger, Kepa and Lunin, they won on a tactical level. Madrid dominated both legs by scoring early and taking the lead or scoring quick after Man City scored. Man City never led in the tie for more than 10 minutes, over 2 matches. They were constantly chasing the score whilst Madrid when scoring were able to defend their lead for way longer. Madrid were actually better offensively for scoring goals with less chances and defensively for not allowing to be scored against despite City's posession. Having the ball most of the time and playing like clowns with 33 shots resulting in 1 goal sounds worse than old school Italian defending. The only one I truly respect, is suprisingly Doku. He wasn't tapdancing then passing the ball back unlike Grealish but actually risked losing the ball by creating bigger chances.
Tbh when real madrid actually countered all city did was foul them and they even got like 3 yellows for that
@@kwamesaforoboateng7615yea so Madrid did not dominate with possession they tactically dominated nobody is seeing that except people with actually ball knowledge
Spot on mate 🙌🏾
My man you know football!! Good analysis💪🏻
City also defended for their lives against inter in the cl final when they were under pressure but I don't see any complaints
Real Madrid players are soldiers, when they play, you feel the love for the jersey, they are ready to die on the pitch, they give everything 🔥
Mancity mastered Passing, RM mastered winning
Haha basically
Not disrespecting City but the real European El-Classico was and is Madrid vs Bayern.
City is still one of the best teams bro. They’re gonna win the league most likely. Bayern has a new manager so in UCL it gets harder for tuchel than it does for us. But he did win it before in 2021 so let’s see
@@mr.pay2win176 You're not comprehending what he wrote bro! No one is talking about domestic leagues here. Strictly, UCL's! When it comes to the UCL it's Real vs Bayern. These two clubs have played the most against each other in the UCL (about to play for a record 11th time in the UCL).
It's about history brother .@mr.pay2win176
Madrid in the first leg got 3 goals with less than 40% possesion, and 1 goal with 32% possession in the second leg and defended like the 300 spartans, that my friends is why madrid are the immortals of football.
Real Madrid is like Rocky Balboa.😊😊
The best team in the world argument is really stupid, like how do u determine the best in the world???? City didn’t win the first leg and didn’t win the second leg, is the team that keeps passing the ball around and have more possession the best in the world?? Football has 2 aspects ( attack and defense) why do we keep downplaying how good a team is defensively, if city is out that means they’re not the best team and that’s it.
Madrid were lucky.
@@kageyamatobio1850no, they weren’t, the were composed and new what to do
The Catalans that run ManCity, also imported the Barça propaganda, that tikitaka possession football is the only good football, and only the chosen ones know how to play that style. When they loose, they can never give credit to the other teams, it's always they were lucky, we played better, we were robbed, excuses...
@@kageyamatobio1850 no, Madrid were unlucky to go to Etihad with a draw, with City having scored 3 goals from under 1 xG.
I’m just saying, if City won on pens, people wouldn’t be dissing them. At the end of the day, it ended close
OH MY GOODNESS! I’ve been saying this about pep
Him being called the best manager over carlo was insane to be he’s been in clubs with so much talent and what Carlo has done these few seasons has go overlooked. Carlo is the best in my opinion
Carlo has been fantastic for Madrid. Their run in 2022 was one of the best I’ve ever seen.
Carlo is a great coach in his own way. But on a tactical level Guardiola is miles ahead of him.
@@hsafootballworld1321 Says a tiki-taka fan. Ancelotti is miles ahead of Pep.
@@raym6541 my friend, on a tactical level, Pep is much better than Ancelotti.
You saw it in all the meetings between Pep and Ancelotti in the last 3 seasons. City outplayed Madrid all of the times. Real Madrid only won due to their never give-up mentality and their persistence.
Ancelotti is more about man management and he knows how to develop good relations with his players and get the best out of them.
Tactically, he is good as well and have a lots of experience.
@@hsafootballworld1321 Pep is not better than Ancelotti on a tactical level, but of course, I don't expect you (tiki-taka fan/Pep-boot-licker) to admit it. All he knows is increase numbers in the midfield by pushing a defender in there, create the triangles so that players will always have options to pass, use the wingers to get the ball into the box or the middle if the wings are covered, always use the down.... Tell me how often City players cross the ball to find the head of Haland if not set-pieces.
Ancelotti has shown by these 3 games you referred to as well as others that he can use different tactics - left overload, long balls, short passes, low crosses, high crosses, low-block etc... did you even notice that Madrid attacks in a 4-3-3 formation and defends in a 4-4-2 flat formation?
Pep's philosophy of defending is to hold the ball more coz the more you hold the ball the less your opponent gets to punish you, hence, Pep is as defensive as any other manager jist that he does his in disguise.
Pep is good but Ancelotti is better.
Indeed, Pep is good but Ancelotti is far ahead.
Man City can celebrate their possession trophy meanwhile Madrid is enroute to their 15th UCL.
Truth is, Man City & Pep can’t cope with a low block. That’s their Kryptonite. Hats off to Carlo.
There are many English fans and many anti-Madrid fans who claim that Real Madrid did not deserve to win because Manchester City put the best football on the table. But what they don't know is that in the sport of soccer, only the team that scores the most goals wins and in that, Real Madrid is the best in the world. A war must be won no matter how nice you do it. The rest is childish tantrums and envy.
¡Hala Madrid!
Realest comment I’ve seen 🤍 Hala Madrid!
They didn't deserve to win. Everyone is saying that. 34-8 shots? You're having a laugh.
I agree, Real absolutely deserved to win, I was rooting for you guys as a Bayern fan. See you at the semis!
That’s because Premier League fanboys are delusional. The same ones that are mad are the same ones mad that English players like Jude and Harry are finding success with Real and Bayern outside the Premier League.
@@spark556 What about the first leg, City scored 3 goals from under 1 xG? Meaning they were shooting from outside of the box because they couldn't get better chances, and luckily scored 3. The fact that they had 34 shots in second leg, scoring only one further paints a picture of how ineffective they actually are. Real led in Etihad for an hour, for a reason. It's obvious to anyone not completely biased that over two legs, the better team won.
I know it’s crazy to say, but in all honesty city has under achieved over the past decade. They’ve spent so much money, bought all the stars they could ever need, bought “the best manager in the world”, and they still only have one champions league. Sure they’ve won all these premier leagues and have had record breaking seasons, but even then, to only have one champions league after being favorites to win it for almost a decade is an underachievement in my book.
The craziest part is losing to Chelsea in the final in 2021 lol
Yes. They’ve won a lot of league titles though, but I can see where you’re coming from. All that oil money and they still were not successful in ucl until last year. Right now they are seen as the best squad, which makes me even happier how they sent city back from their own ground 😂😂
Good point. They can outspend everyone and buy all of the best players in the world. But when tough matches come along, it takes a lot more sacrifice over talent to come through with the victory. Most player's don't dream of growing up wanting to play for Manchester City, unless they are academy players or from Manchester, they pay a lot more sure, but the players aren't intrinsically driven to give their life on the pitch as someone that puts on a Real Madrid shirt. It's beautiful to see these players go out there like soldiers, willing to die for their team mates. I think Xabi Alonso is creating a similar tight-knit group of players with his Leverkusen, adding all the tactics he has learned along his professional career.
Just received an interesting whatsapp while I was writing the other comment. I'm not sure if the numbers are facted checked: Zidane won 3 UCL titles in 2 1/2 years (Real Madrid), and during that period, he only spent $ 50 million. It took Guardiola 16 seasons (Barça, Bayern, ManCity) and $1,600 million to win the same amount of UCL titles.
Real Vs Bayern is the European classic. I believe both sets of fans respect each other immensely. Which ever team wins will deserve it
I strictly stated over the last few years in the beginning of the video lol but yes Bayern Madrid is great and I’m excited to watch
i'm a madrid fan and i have a really closefriend whos a bayern fan and basicallly told me all of the bayern supporters were rooting for us to advance because city and their fans are arrogant and overhyped because pep showed them how to get 70% possesion every match and we shook hands and basically said may the best team win at the semis
Real Madrid and the champions league are made for each other and this is just football heritage man. Anybody who writes them off in this competition is making a mistake because of their pedigree aura confidence and their resilience in difficult circumstances in big games. After a disciplined defensive performance against Manchester City where they ended their Etihad hoodoo, in the last 14 seasons they’ve been to the champions league semifinals 12 times and have won it 5 times since the 2013-14 season and they’ve achieved a feat that no team has ever done before which is win back to back to back champions league titles. Even a team as strong as Manchester City wouldn’t win the champions league in back to back seasons.
To be honest, did you really think that Real Madrid are going to get knocked out of the champions league by the same team 2 seasons in a row. That’s never happened to them as in this competition they’re just inevitable and that’s why they’re difficult to go up against and can’t be written off. Their mentality is on another level and they know that they don’t need to be the best team because even though we’ve seen other teams that are better than them, you know that they’ll win it. They have a mentality about them that other teams simply don’t have and cannot replicate in Europe. They’ve gotten tired of winning the champions league every year and they let every team outplay them and they always get away with it. Being coached so well and having a system where the players know their role is important in a team and these players have it. Real Madrid winning the champions league as I said before at this point it’s football heritage and they’re the most successful club in football history and UCL title number 15 here we come. Benzema would be proud of that. 😂😂😂😂😂😂. Just kidding.
Tbh I actually thought city was going to win bc they were at home and they look good lately but again it doesn’t matter bc Madrid is so clutch in these big moments.
That's the thing 😂 and I agree 💯 with you as you pretty much said it all I'm a Madirista and I'm objective enough to admit Real Madrid haven't been playing the best football necessarily but what sets them apart from all these other clubs and why after a 100 years they remain #1 in the world is their mentality they never give up no matter how much the odds are stacked against them they just keep going and always emerge victorious it's a mentality that respectfully I just don't see with Man City they looked kinda agitated towards the end of the game and a lot of them you could tell were frustrated and towards the end had already given up while Real Madrid kept going until they were the last ones standing Real Madrid are just different that's all I can say they have that elite mentality and that's why they won
33 shots and 3 of them are considered dangerous in the other hand Real Madrid had 8 shots, and 3 of them were dangerous. Real Madrid doesn’t play these type of games, Madrid wins them.
Real Madrid's gameplan was to score, defend the lead for as long as possible & try to catch City out on transition counter attack . They did it but everytime they tried to counter attack City player committed fouls because they were scared . Rodri said "i only saw one team" but he was the one who fouled Brahim on a counter attack😂 .
I agree with what you said with Pep..to me i dont see him as the best manager as he's only been with top clubs full of talent..he needs to prove him self at a struggling club
Of course, because Madrid is top 3 best teams of all time, not City😜
1. Madrid
2. Barcelona
3. Bayern
4. Milan
5. Man United
Top 1
Bruh. With “3”, I didn’t mean that they are number 3😂. Madrid, Barca and Bayern are 1,2,3
Liverpool
There will never be a bigger european macth than Bayern vs Real Madrid any time soon in my opinion
I will agree right now city is best team in the world and hurts opponent in various way . But madrid being madrid , they gave statement that no matter if you are defending champion of ucl and won treble but this competition belongs to us even we plays bad or worse. When you face real madrid , don't look at them like they don't have better chances against us and we can defend against them . Better look at their history and recent records in ucl how they can come back alive after being dead whole game .
May this channel grow a lot..!! Nice talk, mate
Thank you!
the thing YOU don't realize is that Madrid still created more big chances than City, statistically speaking. 90% of those 33 shots were potshots
real madrid are them
El City es un equipo chico con mentalidad de equipo chico.
like Mourinho said keep the ball and we take 3 points home. TBH I agree pep needs to prove himself. Like unai emery look at Mourinho and Carlo and Ferguson and even Xabi Alsono and Klopp and Simeone and many more they proved themselves with weak squads.
Never better said. Well done, Brett ! Hala Madrid !!!!
So many premier league fanatics who are saying city deserved since they played well. No they didn’t in any way. So many shots missed. But dw maybe yall can give city the xG D’or ahahaha 😂😂😂
Baha the possessiond'or
Fantastic video!! So so so there with you on Pep! Overrated to the max!
Thank you!
I actually said leading up to match Real Madrid being the underdogs would work in their favor and I was right expectations for RM were so low for them as majority of Madiristas had already given up on them and majority of football fans assumed Man City would win meant Real Madrid could be more under the radar and get away with a lot more not for nothing my gut told me this match could go either way but I felt the odds would be in Real Madrid's favor and I was right 😆
Haha you definitely were. I did think city would win bc they were at home but Madrid always find a way haha
If u are a madrid fans not glory hunter.. we hala madrid stand tall with our team in anything 💙
Not true. If you were an actual Madridista before the three-peat, you would never have given up. We believe until the very last second.
Pep is definitely overrated. He would never play a with a 3rd choice GK, no starting CB and no DM. He would have committed charge 116 & 117 in January.
Rest 🤦 you are talking rubbish
@@LOOPS581 if so y did city lose? They failed to win either tie and weren’t as depleted as Madrid. Pep buys the best players willing to sign every season and could never cope with the injuries Madrid is dealing with. Yet still he was beaten. He’s a 🤡
When main chances created 3 both by city and madrid which is hilarious
Manchester City is not the best team in Europe, the team has draw with the top Premier League teams like Arsenal and Liverpool and concede more goals compared to last season. RM has the mentality compared to other teams. Remember RM has no number 9, thin back line with injuries including their top goalie. Great teams find a way to win, not always the most talented team.
I'm not gonna deny that Real Madrid was great at defense here. Defending so well against a team like City is really hard. But still, I do think City should have won that game. They were much better than Real, but they couldn't get the goals they needed. Then there was Haaland and De Brune being subbed off. Real Madrid's tactic was boring, and definetly felt as if City should win, but City would have won if they had converted their goals more with all those chances. That's definetly on themselves
Don Carlito 😅
Both teams are my favourite
City is the one under pressure. At home, holder, favourite and so on ...according to English fan. But RM play the way they play as usual
Madrid vs Bayern >>>>>>> Madrid vs City
based takes, great vid
The FC teams overglorify a one man striker games. That is why most of them lost ECL because too many of their top strikers often forget its a team game first and mostly do so in the big games. They want the individual goal credit too bad.
Honestly that’s what I like how Madrid often runs to forwards with vini and Rodrigo bc nobody else does that and it’s so hard to defend that
I believe a lot of pundits predict whichever wins Madrid vs City match would win the UCL
Real Madrid will meet Dortmund in the Grand Final of the Champion League
Yes… I totally agree he should go back to Barca… and YES,, I would like to see him coach a team that doesn’t have endless pockets of cash to spend on players.
Before Man City got Haaland, they played with a false nine. They were great but could have been better. When they got Haaland, it looked liked they had gotten the final piece of the jigsaw. They went on to win everything. This year not so much
"Best team" What does that even mean? A team obsessed with possession is somehow automatically good just because they can side pass the ball for 90 minutes without creating anything? Real Madrid deserved to win more simply on the fact that they actually had a plan for the game. City passing around for 90 minutes is no plan, or at least whatever plan they had: it failed miserably. Which again just goes to show how the ACTUAL better team won.
I’m not sure that was Madrid plan. I think that became their plan after they scored. If city scored first, it would have been totally different from a style of play.
Real Madrid was the BETTER Team!😍❤️😍
Didn't do anything of the sort. Better in the penalty shoot-out and good luck to them. They didn't convincingly beat Manchester City and their incredible UCL history does not intimidate my football club going forward.
This guy is just glazing Madrid at this point nothing neutral 🤡
Honestly amazing how people can have so much to say about a match that was all about the fine margins. Scoring against City has been really easy this season, they can't keep a clean sheet if their life depended on it, even against the worst teams in the league. What keeps them going is the fact they can outscore anyone. Wednesday they couldn't, simple as that. If that shot from Rodrygo didn't bounce straight back into his feet for a rebound or if KDB blasted that one clear chance in, this video wouldn't exist.
We saw the two best teams in the world battling in two completly opposite matches and after 210 minutes, nothing set them apart, the one with the most luck wins, simple as that. Taking nothing away from RM, they played well and did what was needed to win, respect. But don't be analysing how they outplayed City. Small margins.
We frozen Etihad !
This is a really good assessment especially regarding overrated spoiled unadjusting stubborn no plan B Pep. The grossest tactician ever to coach. Epitome of how the sport is slowly being ruined by coaches wanting to control everything…always.
Even his prodigy on the other side (Arteta) had no plan B for Bayern. Stop sensationalism of these two. Pep should go to Napoli. Or Villareal ala Pellegrini, Mourinho, and others who have embraced mediocrity and made it amazing.
Thank you!
Pep Guardiola es el principal culpable
Tenia que haber puesto a JULIÁN ALVAREZ y DOKu de tutulares
Doku was literally so dangerous the whole match. Low key should have started.
We all know itz not pretty and also impossible.....bt we are real Madrid we make impossible to possible....now go home with your beautiful football....we go with our ugly semi final haram ball.....also one thing i forget to mention itz not the game of tactics.....itz the game of mentality, carecter and hunger......Hala Madrid 🦾
The true was real madrid all plans full activated @ ethihad....
And also pep and city failed against madrid... Simple one💯
@grett, when you claim that MCI is the best team in the world, you're clearly highlighting its aggressive play style. However, what we witnessed, though not aesthetically pleasing, was a defensive masterpiece in football. In this aspect, Real Madrid outshone MCI's current vulnerable defensive system. otherwise one could argue that could be a 1x0 second leg to MCI if their defense was more robust.
I agree. Alvarez and haaland cannot coexist on city. It will never work and Alvarez will always get the short end of the stick.
Think Real Madrid fans are sniffing glue. City absolutely battered Real. 18 corners to 1. Madrid turned up with their galacticos and played like Sheffield Utd and parked the bus. Real were very lucky KDB & Foden must be kicking themselves blazing over on chances. Real got lucky and if any of the deluded faithful were honest with themselves they’d admit it.
I’m not a Madrid fan this is just an analysis. City was dominating but unfortunately it didn’t matter.
It was just one of those days for Manchester City where it just wasn’t falling for them in attack. With all the chances they created and shots that they had they were shut down thanks to a stubborn Real Madrid defense that barely put a foot wrong even if it looked as if they were about to concede a lot of goals. It was unlucky for Manchester City but a defensive masterclass from Real Madrid and overall the better team went through.
You don’t want to see Real Madrid defending for 120 minutes as you’re not used to seeing that with them, but the reality is that in their DNA this is what they do, they do whatever it takes to win and this mentality is just something else. They were defending for their lives and this is an important trait in winning football as from clearances tackles fullbacks shutting down wingers etc, this was a frustrating game for Manchester City from an attacking perspective. You’re hearing Rodri after the game saying that there was only one team attacking and he’s not wrong to be honest, but one team went through and it was the better team on the day and ok Real Madrid got lucky a bit, but you have to praise them for going to a stadium where they never won at and after getting outplayed and had some sloppy moments they kept their composure and went through in the end on penalties. Manchester City are an elite team and had they not faced Madrid in the quarterfinals they’re probably gonna get to the final again and while their performance was good, that alone isn’t enough when you’re playing against Real Madrid the kings of Europe.
Yeah you said it perfectly. City was clearly the better side but unfortunately, they conceded a poor goal early on and had to adapt to madrids defensive minded game and Madrid always seems to find a way to win in these big matches.
Truth is I think this match unfolded just as Carlo wanted he wanted it to go to pens because he knew if it went to pens we would win and that's exactly what happened 😂 not for nothing you can tell that's the outcome the Real Madrid players wanted by the end of the match you can see all of the Man City players starting to look frustrated and angry and all of the RM players smiling calm cool and collected like they knew they had the game on lock and I think Man City knew it was over for them
Honestly Manchester city are poor at finishing. They shoot the ball so much they overwhelm the defenders and keepers so much that at least one shot will go through, but in all honesty their conversion rate is quite low.
@@Model_Roe I thought so too, it became apparent in the second half. There was a point where Valverde could have started a counter attack, but oddly he chose to back pass it and remain defensive. He knew the risk of the counter failing and giving city a break was much more likely than them scoring .That is a sort of discipline and patience you rarely see in football. If Madrid was actually desperate to score that goal, they would've gone for it, but they were playing the long game. An Ancelotti masterclass.
@@AJftwlol you said it all!😆I agree with you as for Fede I been saying Fede will win a Ballon Dor he's still fairly young and I just see him having an explosive season where he just blows everyone away like he's up next after Jude not to mention dude is like the energiser bunny lol 😂 he and Jude have to be the hardest working footballers in Real the both of them running up all down the pitch and never getting tired I'm impressed
This pep debate is always buffles me.when pep came to barcelona,it wasnt a great team..ronaldinho was kicked out.madrid was dominating la liga..pepade messi the center of attraction..pedro Rodriguez was a pep project xavi and iniesta raised their game..also every coach should have an idea and type of players they want he likes them technical..mourinho loved them strong.Always people discrediting the man..this current man city team aint that great its all because of rhe style the coach employs..If hes not one of the greatest coaches then who is..this notion of big clubs is soo weird when many teams have quality players as well but never reach his level of success
I feel like this city team and the team he’s had at city the last 4-5 years has been significantly better than almost every team in the world. I am also really surprised they lost to Chelsea in the final in 2021
They had messi... that alone, is already a problem on its own. So pep could always just let the players play around him. Especially since during that time, messi was already problematic to deal with. He also had one of the best defenders ever (puyol) arguably barcelona's greatest midfield 3 to date, and fabregas and Pedro. Like the team was already stacked. Then with Barcelona, money atleast at the time was no obvious issue.
The lost cause the ref like always on Real Madrid side
