Not My Job To Impress you. Unless a tent company says that we recommend putting a tarp down, I'm not going to do it and If it fails you will see it on my channel.
These videos are the fuel that keeps me going until I can get out in the woods again. My 5 year old loves to come over and watch these, anticipating our next trip. Thank you Corporal.
I think that shelter is just the ticket. Quick, easy, light. Just about any tent, tarp, shelter, or whatever is gonna come with crap stakes. I wind up using them to hold down my anti-deer netting over my shrubs in the winter. I swear I'm gonna do a ribeye in bacon grease next summer back in my woods. The mushrooms were the real kicker. I'll even add a couple eggs in that grease. I just had breakfast before watching this and got hungry all over again. Good show Corp!
Great video Corporal! I think you've outdone yourself this time with the Ribeye, bacon and stuffed mushrooms. My mouth was watering. I've been searching for years for the Holy Grail lightweight backpacking tent. I'm liking the River Country tent you got there. At least it's green. I almost gave up on looking, all the ultralight tents are either very expensive and also some obnoxious "Telletubby" colors like orange, red, blue and yellow. I like to blend in with the woods.
Throwing that veggie bacon in the fire was the best place for it. Good man, that was good to go. Thank you for your channel and your service to our country sir. Your sacrifices for us are truly appreciated.
The same company makes a 2 person A frame style tent that works well. It's not much heavier and can be put up using 2 trekingpoles, 2 sticks or a ridge line. Much more room but same versatility in ways of putting it up. I have both tents, price point is amazing for the quality.
I have never watched so many survival videos in anticipation of what was going to be cooked. Good stuff man, you're making a dedicated in-doorsman thinking about becoming a dedicated out-doorsman.
We enjoy watching these videos as a family. I appreciate you keeping things clean for the kids. My husband suggests the Maxwell House single serving bags (like a tea bag, only with coffee).
Car camping has been Much easier for most families for nearly 100 years. I know because Ive been doing it for most of those years (73). It was easier for my working parents to stuff us three kids and themselves into the car with the tent, go as far as the logging roads would take us near a stream, and the boys had fishing while mom and I hunted rocks, built dams, and enjoyed ourselves. Later I did the same until my son discovered the Military Boy Scouts and decided I was too wimpy. Shortly I discovered a group that liked to camp and cook over open fires and recreate history. Grandchildren came and once again it’s throw them in the back of the car with a trunk full of stuff.
Trees in the Eastern woodlands make setting up camp MUCH easier. When I camped in the Sierras, trees were abundant too. On Okinawa, a free-standing tent was very handy. Some areas of Canada have more trees than others. Being a native to Michigan, my preference is trees, but I’m adaptable. Courtesy of Half Vast Flying
Also, I love that you bring something new (productwise) in your videos- like new firestarter, or a sharpener, knives, shovels, sleeping pads etc. It's good to see new products and get an idea of what's out there and what would work for you.
For camping coffee try the Buphallo Pocket Coffee Filters. They attach to whatever cup you have, and it takes about 2 minutes to make whatever kind of coffee you want. I got them from amazon.
Been watching but not commenting because l was thinking about my comments more then the content but l learned how to wait till the end. I do watch what your teaching but l also observe everything, you keep your area remarkably clean and organized. I have to work on that. Thanks Guru.
If that steak tasted half as good as it looked, you need a word better than Outstanding! I like that tent. Looks promising. Thanks for another Outstanding video CPL Kelly!!!
A friend that been backpacking the Smokies for years found a light tent, under three pounds. He liked it so well he bought a spare. I will get name and info and forward it to you. Great video, as usual, I watch all the time!
I have been using the pathfinder cup and lid with a strainer for coffee for years. Just pour the coffee and the water into the cup, boil it, pour it, drink it. Good until the last 2 sips; just toss that or pour some more on top. The only time that doesn't work is when someone needs to stir in sugar and cream... but we're MEN! No need for that! :) Love the videos brother! Thank you for that and for your service! God bless!
If you want to check out a great little sharpening Stone go on Amazon and check out the Ez-lap medium diamond Stone. It comes with a leather pouch and is a great sharpening Stone. I've carried the same one with me for years now and it always makes my knives shaving sharp with just a few passes on each side.
Because car camping allow you to carry more weight, use two inflatable pads as the bubbles/grooves will lock together to prevent sliding. Double the thickness and no sore hips.
Folgers has single serve coffee in tea bag form. Brews just like tea and is better than any instant stuff. Have you ever thought about a video series? One on shelters, one on fires, one on tools..... etc. Maybe different environments or seasons of the year. Different skill levels. Then ‘students’ could purchase the series that fit their style the best. Just food for thought. Keep up the outstanding videos sir
I've just found you channel a few days ago and I have absolutely fallen in love with it. You are very informative and have great ideas and reviews. Keep it up.
Just wanted say that watching the consumption of "instant" coffee makes me want to stab myself in the eye with a really hot French fry. Folgers used to make a single serve tea bag thingy full of actual coffee grounds... just a thought!
You gave me a chuckle, you sure make coffee like a Marine. I made coffee for a Major for 2 years, and if he couldn't smell it from home, it was too weak. Also...at the hardware store, get some rain gutter spikes for tent stakes. They work great. Jim
Good luck with the coffee situation. Scaled down cowboy coffee is the way to go. RUclips cowboy coffee and you should select Kent Rollins video. Should help...
Great video as always thank you! Speedy sharps are great, and also a redundancy. Sharpener and the ultimate ferro rod striker. I've never been able to sharpen with them to the same level as Brad Buckner does, but they work wonders on my pruners, shovels and hoes. Nothing better for yard tools! Just my two cents on the straight stakes...put some shockcord on the stakes. Attach the shockcord through the loops on the tarp / tent, not the stake itself. This prevents many problems. Securing a guy line via this method is indispensable in moderate to high winds as it is much more forgiving. Love the overnighters!
i don’t know how your food always comes out so good in these videos! i have a whole series on my channel dedicated to cooking in the woods and i can’t even cook it these good half the time. anyways great video!
First off, that meal made my mouth water... second, your on-line course is a fantastic idea to me. I am on an extreme fixed income, disabled, and would not be able to travel to or afford the course. This would be amazing to me because even though I know alot about outdoors, bushcraft, and survival, I would still LOVE to attend the courses and to meet and work with you and other Pathfinder instructors.
I have had the trekker 1 for a couple of months now. And have used it extensively. Not the best tent l have had, but does the job. And come on now, under 50 bucks! Have had no leaks. Out standing !! Jim
If you want a really good cup of coffee with little prep try using the pour over method. I use a GSI ultra lite backpacker pour over filter, place a couple table spoons of coffee of your choice in it over a cup and simply pour hot water thru it. Way better then instant.
Part of the art of being a accomplished out doors person is to use the gear you have at hand to its and your best use and ability to survive and thrive while putting yourselves at minimum risk and to watch a good bushman is poetry in motion as they use minimum effort to kick goals like the corporal unlike some other people people on utube
Put regular coffee grounds in a tea bag like pouch, put the pouch in cold water overnight or a few hours earlier for cold brew and heat it up in the morning.
You're eating better than me and I'm in the comfort of my living room. That's awesome. I love the idea of the training. That's a issue for my area. I haven't found any close by. Keep up the great videos.
Best coffee, tea ball with 2-3 tsp ground coffee depending on how strong you want it, directly to boiled water. Tastes like coffee at home. Super easy to clean tea ball just rinse. It's plain and simple, most people who take the time to genuinely cook in the outdoors while camping later realize that they probably eat better out there then they do at home.

I've had the 2.2 for over a year now. Does great in the rain. My old MSR was much worse. I've read reviews on Amazon that say the same about leaking. Curious about that...
I’ve had the trekker 2.2 since last spring. Last year it went through three storms with no leaking. This year I went backpacking and we had a slow rain most of the first night. Still no water in my tent. I did follow the directions on how to treat it when I first got it. I also sprayed it again before my trip and touched up the inside bottom corners
What I would like to know is where the heck do you always get those Flintstone's bronto-steaks from. The Bedrock Slaughterhouse ?! Give a shout out. Watching that slab getting cooked was so good that I can smell it while I was licking my chops like a bony starved predator. As for your coffee, I keep asking you to try the coffee bags. Start heating your water, open packet, drop bag in cup, bring to a boil. Enjoy your FRESH BREWED coffee. Eezy peezy. I can't drink that freeze-dried diuretic. If I do, then I'll be pushing grizzlies out of the way for my spot in the woods. Believe me you, NOT a pretty sight, not funny. 😆 🤣 😂 😹 😆 Speaking of crap, did that hippie to(e) fu(ngus) food ever burn up ? Wow, It must've been from the planet Krypton. Talk about non-perishable/ non-biodegradable. Am I right ? Sheesh. Good thing you didn't eat it. Btw, I like the tent. Corporal, as always, rock steady my friend. GOD Bless the U.S.A. AIRBORNE !
Happy to see you doing this type of camping and considering car/truck camping. A big movement amount men& women all ages " living off the grid". Keep up the good work.
Coffee recommendation: AMIGO Fusion - it's a mix of freeze dried soluble coffee and finely ground beans! It's my new favorite. Those ground beans mixed in with the soluble coffee really help get that "real coffee" taste.

Not My Job To Impress you. Unless a tent company says that we recommend putting a tarp down, I'm not going to do it and If it fails you will see it on my channel.
Yeah, you shouldn't NEED a footprint, especially these days with everyone putting a bathtub floor on their tents.
Though I suppose if the ground is gnarly, it might be a good idea, even if the manufacturer doesn't outright suggest it.
But that ground looked fine.
