I had a neighbor who raised quail for the eggs. He had two fairly large, homemade outdoor coops, side by side. They are tiny compared to chickens, so it takes a lot of them compared, but the bunch he gave tasted good. I guess the quail did the incubating for him, but man did the coops stink! Hello to Johnny.

Quail or chickens they do stink if you do not keep on top of it. In my original coop I had a dirt floor & started using the deep bedding method. It work really good to keep the smell down plus very 3 to 4 months I got some rich mulch out of it. In my trailer conversion chicken coop I have a wooden floor & have to clean it out much more often. I started using wood chips a couple of months ago & that is helping. I'll say hi to Johnny, thank you.

My wife said something about chickens the other day. Without thinking I immediately said "you gonna spend a week building the coop and another week on other accessories"?

LOL That is nothing compared to the time will spend taking care of them. On a positive note they are fun to watch and as time goes on you will learn ""better methods"" on taking care of them. If you can get a trailer to convert I find it the best way to go for a coop. Moveable if you change where you want to keep them and in most arears no permit needed.
